  1. WOW... talk about scary. So glad things are looking good for your little girl Anton. Best wishes to both Anton's and Brian's families
  2. Behave Bearsy... a killing... or at the very least a serious maiming... is only good for around 689 hits and maybe a couple of dozen posts
  3. Errmm... explain why she shouldn't? I love a good playlist
  4. Like I've said before... all that is necessary for evil to succeed is for good men to do nothing
  5. I can't help but wonder... if the soul scene were to adopt an 'originals only' policy as far as DJing was concerned... would that cut down the amount of venues there are out there? Bit of a pointless statement really... but hey ho. Another thing that has hit home about this thread is the use of the word 'RESPECT'. It never ceases to amaze me just how many people seem to have such a big problem this little word. Anyway... a few people have said that they feel the people who are playing bootlegs have no respect for DJ's who own the originals. Excuse me... but when did the soul scene become all about us? Surely it is the artists that are being disrespected by people playing bootlegs. After all... soul music would still exist without us... but the soul scene would not exist without the music. Imo... playing bootlegs kind of sticks two fingers up at all the shit these artists went through... because that shit was real. Everything they put into those records was real... the expectation, the frustration, and ultimately the devastation they went through when more often than not that record didn't make it... that sure as hell was real. Yet here we are... despite getting so much enjoyment out of all their shit for the last 35 years or so... these artists are still getting shit on by people not even playing their real records. No doubt some of you will say I am talking a load of crap... but some people just don't get it... and never will. And those people will keep on playing bootlegs.
  6. I always thought the going rate for this was about £20/30. Got the shock of my life when I looked in the book... £100/150
  7. Just curious... anyone out there go to this?
  8. It was an honour... he's a really nice guy. I am sure I would be honoured to meet you too Pete... if the opportunity ever presented itself.
  9. Getting DJ's to write down what they play... as they play it... seems to have a lot going for it. It solves the problem of records being repeated during the night. Plus... when the nights over... you'll have all the DJ's playlists for the whole night there already. Then there's the added bonus for those DJ's who plan there sets in advance... they'll be able to turn up with their set's already printed out. Oh... and for the saddo's amongst us... of which I am one... the thought of having an accurate record of who played what... and where... and when... gets me strangely excited.... hmm.. not too sure that's a good thing though.... Anyway... it will never happen.... for the simple reason that there are DJ's out there who will consider doing such a thing completely beneath them.
  10. I was honoured to actually meet Brad whilst in Seattle last year... a more genuine guy you honestly couldn't wish to meet. Nothing to do with your problem or Brad... but I'm waiting for a letter that has been redirected back to me here due to the fact it arrived at the house we were staying at in Seattle after we were already back home in England. It was posted the first week in December... it still hasn't arrived.
  11. But what if the evening session has two rooms? All three of us are DJing in both rooms at you know where next week... and as far as I know... it's still impossible to be in two places at the same time. I must admit to not liking tunes being repeated... although I'm not anal enough to let it ruin my night. But I am anal enough about it when it's me doing the repeating... so what do you do?
  12. It's no secret to anyone who knows me how much I love the Fabulous Peps... so I CAN'T WAIT!!
  13. Yeah... who did win? Also... did Liam really tell us all to lighten up? As if anybody could take this seriously
  14. I don't think a week has gone by in the last year when there hasn't been a Clara Hardy for sale on Ebay. Yet it still manages to fetch upwards of $200 a time...? One of those you either love or you hate... not quite love... but I have to say I do like it.
  15. So you didn't laugh then? If she's 'brave enough to dance her own style in front of several hundred northern soul fans'... then a few old fogeys laughing at her efforts won't bother her in the slightest. Although to say she was 'dancing' is being more than a little kind. No doubt I look as bad as that every Friday and Saturday night... but without the blonde hair... or the camera.
  16. I've always wondered this myself Chalky. If they have to have them at all... wouldn't one 'up'... one 'mid'... and one 'in between' tempo record be more of a judge of who can dance and can not? My reckoning is that a good dancer should be able to dance to any tempo record... and not just the 100mph stuff. Although whether this lot can even dance to that is a matter of opinion. Can you imagine Goldilocks trying to dance to the likes of Buddy Smith or the Magnetics 'Count the Days'...
  17. Sorry but....
  18. Always a favourite line for me is from Shirley Whal's - 'That's How Long' - King 'Tell the DJs they've got nothing to say... until they have no more records to play' Also the last line of Chuck Holiday - 'Just Can't Trust Nobody' - Gloria 'That low down dirty dog just stole my woman' but more recently... Parliaments - My Rainy Day - Cabell 'I have stripped the pride.. of many a young girl.. yeah' ..... LOVE IT!
  19. First played out by my my good friend Andy Whitmore... more years ago than I care to remember... has to be coming up to 20 years or so I would say. I agree though... awesome tune...
  20. I voted for the later start. Can't help thinking if niters went back to being just that... all niters... there would be room for others to get a look in.... instead of some people trying to have the lot.
  21. Played 'Rollin Rollin' out last Friday actually... BOTH SIDES ARE GREAT
  22. The record I most associate with Stafford... and Guy H... is Susan Rewis on Columbia... They Say You Found a New Baby... the old Denita James & the Wildside cover up... This record WAS Stafford for me.... loved it!
