  1. I'd agree with you there Jordi. Don't you think some records are just too soulful for their own good - this being a prime example.
  2. I knew Steve Kennedy very well. He was from Nuneaton - and yes, he did have some mighty fine tunes! My old copy of the Volumes on Twirl had M. Dobson S-O-T scratched into the run out. I kid you not!
  3. I'd make sure mine were five double sider's! God knows which five they would be though.
  4. I was thinking more along the lines of just using the original recordings. The thought of cover versions by artists so soul less I doubt they've got sole's on the bottom of their feet just makes me want to vomit. Duffy singing Alice Clarke's 'You Hit Me' ? Amy Winehouse singing Rose Batiste's 'Hit & Run' ? Paul Weller singing Eddie Parker's 'I'm Gone' ? Come on people - it may only be a film - but please!
  5. Am I the only one to think the original artists, who recorded all the records you all danced to at Wigan Casino deserve recognition in this film?
  6. I'd say the chances of anyone getting it 100% right is an impossibility. Everyone's experience of any night is totally unique to them, despite being in the same hall at the same time as God knows how many other people. The one thing everyone did have in common though was the music. Bugger the story - the MUSIC is the most crucial part of this film - and that means the ORIGINAL music and not a load of second rate cover versions!
  7. 30 days non stop Beeks has been going
  8. Hmmm... song titles? No mention in your post about these 'song titles' being performed by the original artists. Any chance of a straight answer please? Will the songs in the film be the original recordings by the original artists - YES or NO?
  9. Anyway, meant to say GOOD LUCK with the night Ray. I'm really looking forward to reading the playlists. I love nights like this, it will make the DJ's think long and hard about what they are going to play, which will hopefully result in a few nice surprises. Up until today I hadn't really given it much thought, but I've just had a quick look through a couple of boxes I've got here, and I am ashamed to say that the boys way out number the girls. Shame on me!
  10. To be honest a female promoter doing the asking didn't even enter my head, how bad's that! Personally, I find it a bit degrading when the 'non female' promoters out there only have girls on when it's a 'girlie' night. Then again, if you're any good, you'll get asked and if you're not, you won't - male or female.
  11. All the ones I know of have got water damage. BUT WHO CARES! Just awesome!
  12. Yes I got one. I can't say the pm offended me, but I can see Jaynes point regarding everyone doing it. What does annoy me though is these 'LADIES' only nights (and no I don't mean Ray's night as his is a female RECORDS only night) What I'm talking about is the 'female DJ's only' nights. I'm sorry but I can't help but find these nights insulting and patronising to us girlies. If I'm asked to do a spot, I'd bloody hope it's because they feel I'm up to the job, not because I'm female! Anyway, like I've always said, it's what's in your BOXES and not in your BOXERS that counts!
  13. In that case I must be missing something cos it seems to point to nothing or no one specific to me Right, cue all the things I must be missing posts
  14. Maybe they think that a charity event might get more people through the door Steve? I must admit I hardly ever look at charity event threads - unless the person running it is someone I know or someone whose event I would want to go to anyway. And before anyone says I'm an uncharitable so and so - let me tell you I'm not! I have in fact been raising money for the 'Rwanda Group Trust' for the last twelve years or more and not a northern soul gimmick in sight
  15. Doesn't a Notts Palais reunion have to have original Notts Palais DJ's? I may be missing something here but wouldn't an event that doesn't have the original Notts Palais DJ line up be nothing more than a brand new event held in an old club?
  16. WHAT A FANTASTIC RECORD! Good price too - although I doubt I'd be able to scrape £4.75 together let alone £475. Top top tune for one of you lucky people -
  17. This subject was mentioned in the letters page of Pete Lawson's first magazine, some valid points in there
  18. Plus they don't make you aware of the fact until it's too late. (Well, they didn't make me aware of it anyway.) So there I was spending my money like it was, well, mine to spend.
  19. Yes something like that Jayne. BUT HOW BAD IS THAT? I had absolutely no idea I was only allowed spend so much of my own hard earned money! Plus it takes about a week or more to get yourself verified as you need to wait for them to pay two small amounts into your bank account that you need to verify. Not good when you've got a seller waiting on a payment.
  20. I had an unconfirmed address for ages - and my debit or credit card matched my home address. Not strictly the same thing, but anybody know about 'verified' and 'unverified' accounts? It was an age ago now, but I remember going to pay for an item I had won on Ebay only to be told that I had exceeded my spend allowance for that month! I couldn't believe that anyone could impose a limit on the amount of my own money I was allowed to spend! Anyway, as far as I can remember in order to get this restriction lifted I had to become 'verified'? Not exactly sure what that means though. Anyone else encountered this problem? As far unconfirmed addresses Dave, I shouldn't think you need worry.
  21. Not as much as Paul will Ted, that I can guarantee!
  22. Offers? I'll offer you outside if you don't behave! Ok everyone, Paul has suffered a bit of a bang to his head which has resulted in him losing all sense of reality. He's ok, but don't take any notice of any sales he posts up in the next few days!
  23. Hi ya Wendy, You might do as well to buy a Northern Soul Price Guide from John Manship (he's on here). He also does a bootleg guide too. They are a great read, as well as invaluable when it comes to buying and selling stuff. ps: they are also a source of great joy and sorrow - depending on whether you are in or out of pocket!
