  1. ..i'm inclined to agree...i remember the footage being different..i can remember Tony blackburn messing up the intro as he announced that the dancers would be doing a dance routine called the footsee...maybe it was a rehearsal..for sure thats Gethro in the red/white striped footie shirt..maybe Bob Monkhouse recorded it...
  2. ..yep remember you tellin me about that when we met up at the hotel nr heathrow just before you and Mac flew to the US.I know its from the album..but its a cut above his usual added instrumentals ...i wondered who played the strings..i think its much better than the vocal original..and why was it never booted?
  3. ..anyone have any further info on the 'dress rehearsal' 45?..Ian D was looking into it?..prob his best tailor made/remix effort...
  4. ..in reverse, i bought an original of The Servicemen 'Helping hand' and cos the labels were reversed thought it was a bootleg..moved it on for a quid...
  5. shame..pity they didnt put an inst version on the flip..then it would be worth buying..
  6. as a young teenager growing up in Skegness..i remember many bank holidays..scooters lined up on the foreshore from one end to the other Mods completely taking over the compass gardens..i'd recently bought 'Patches' Clarence carter, but the real gem was on the b side, 'just cant leave your love alone' also remember dancing to Long shot kick de bucket at my school disco..and Roy 'C' shotgun Wedding..
  7. yep i take your point..but this sounds really bassy, cond looks ok..i had a copy back in the day but cant remember what it played/sounded like..the Brenda lee jones i got off you plays fantastic by comparison..just wondered if anyone else's copy sounded similar to mine..
  8. ...just bought a copy ..played it..sounds very bassy..so checked against the CD version..totally different..is my copy duff? are all copies like this? changed decks, reduced bass..still far too bassy..lyrics sound muffled..whats the verdict?? thanks for looking..
  9. bloody hell!! i always thought they started post Torch...
  10. that must be one of the very earliest!!
  11. .had three once upon a time..all 1944 WILLYS..all long gone..you can still pick em up..thru MV clubs..
  12. its all been said and done by now surely.....except my notw type behind the scenes, fallouts, rows, never to be talked about (maybe when i do my autobiography) personal experience of the whole disaster!!
  13. me too!!! i have a copy that is a demo that carries over the drumstick..its a paler colour..maybe a little thinnish..now about 8 yrs ago Dave Rai took a look and even he couldnt be sure, he couldnt remember it being booted! so,,was it? and in ltd quantity? its certainly not the vibrant red of most original backbeat copies...but its not off centre..
  14. first met Mary and colin on Boston market..must be 1972/73.. used to buy lots of soul 45's and later northern when she had it..was a very important source to many in that area.As for Cleethorpes i'd been to the early dayers and nighters but honestly preferred Wigan as i'd been going regularly. But, will testify to the fact that the casino did have an air of snobbishness/eliteism that cleethorpes didnt have..and they played some great stuff first, the pier allniters seriously affected wigans attendance..and they did rip off Marys cleethorpes badge..not exactly a breath of fresh air..more like a welcoming breeze..genuine down to earth people, the real deal as the tanned one would say..
  15. its only the same with other collecting or hobby groups..ive collected a fair bit of diverse stuff, from Northern, military, vintage vehicles, vintage clothing etc..and there are always the purist, take it too far types..with northern soul (and its offshoots ) most everyone has heard all the classics, whether played on the original or not..so its hard to impress as it was in the old days, when if you managed to aquire a copy of anything that hadn't been pressed, it was special.I would rather a dj play underplayed/largely forgotten/never really made sides than familiar classics on ovo!! wow that looks weird! but thereis a veritable army of chin rubbers who get excited over mines a demo, or first matrix, or upside down or reversed matrix..who gives a f***. Its not the same anymore and never will be...
  16. does anyone except the poster understand any of this..makes Dave Godin sound monosybillic!!!
  17. yep.. called dragonette shirts..originally a v neck short sleeve tee , later 'bootlegs' were made in vests..a high fashion item from early 74..that the northern scene adopted..
  18. ..anyone know him..i first met him in early 1974 when he was working in Skegness at the derbyshire miners holiday camp, along with kevin dutton from sheffield.I took him to the casino a couple of times in my car, later he moved to Blackpool, i used to see him at wigan every now and then..wondered if anyone knew if he was still about??
  19. yes..after playing it on his soul show a couple years back..someone emailed to ask if he still owned the disc..a definite YES!
  20. so which side is played ? i assume one night stand as the other is same as luv buggs
  21. always liked the shirtails..as white as the beach boys but a great northern spin..
  22. ..heres a 45 ive had since early 70,s. any day now/one night stand. i always thought it was a mis-press as its the same tune as the luv bugs 'mamas gonna whip ya'...recently seen on a site as being one of only 3/4 copies..is it played? ever played? anyone shed light on this supposedly rare 45??
  23. pm'd you
