  1. inst first..big sound post Torch early Wigan..
  2. massive around 75/76 esp at the casino...
  3. agree but many 45's have issue or demo label differences..sometimes the demo label is poor or the other way round..i'm betting the matrix is the same on all three..the demo and issue with smaller font seem to be anyway..
  4. exactly my point..SOMEBODY ..must still have an orig issue from before it was repressed!..as for the bubbling label..i have a Rolling stones MR pressed promo of 'Tumbling Dice'..has the same bubbling on label..and both 45's seem to have been pressed within weeks of each other..
  5. ..blimey..that brings it back..i had an advantage in that my dad had a mens clothes shop..he had accounts with Ben Sherman (whom he used to meet in London) and Levis back in the 60's..anyway it was hard to get them in my size at 16 cos i was slim..but then he managed to get get some samples of (junior) Ben Sherman size 141/2 also a crombie from Covent gdn..later i had the (rupert type trs) which were more military wool tartan than bay city rollers..also two tone check bags..i dyed my brogues white (like correspondents shoes) anh a pair of crepe wedge bumper shoes i dyed silver..this was from '71 to '72..later budgie jkt..more bags inc my first cord pair..then it was bowling shirts..dragonette..and the first custom pair (I believe) of high waist bags..with extra pockets on the legs (a la combat) which carried my notebook for listing 45's..and spare vest..had a cream leather bomber like Steve McQueen racing type..then '74 a beret..after that a 1920's wool almost to the floor gangster coat and wool 8 panel cap..after that toned it all down..short hair ..suits..
  6. not far off we sold levis for 37/-6d (almost £4)..wrangler 35/-
  7. great pic..if you look at the LP covers from around that time..there was definitely an Italian or continental look going on..though the Levis (more than wrangler etc) were firmly US..and with style icons like Sidney Poitier ..Harry Belafonte..and lesser Sammy davis..its not hard to see why this look caught on ..especially in the more laid back climes of LA...
  8. not sure how long..but as a kid my auntie once told my elder brother that Howlin Wolf played there the week previous..and her daughter in law told me when Ike & Tina played it was sold out and they were helped in thru a toilet window..after hearing a 20 min version of Proud Mary from outside..
  9. the actor John Mccardle told me about 'At the top' or 'Room at the top' in Wigan..he travelled there from liverpool on his scooter roughly same time as he also visited the Wheel.
  10. very true..however in our YC..we took 45's that we'd managed to aquire ..more obscure Stax/Atlantic..i had roscoe robinson..soul bros six..mitch ryder..''IN'' sounds rather than northern soul..i first became aware of Northern thru B&S..and when a girl gave a C90 tape, and Torch badge sometime '72..
  11. spot on..my dad was a tailor and subscribed to Town magazine..remember that issue as a kid..wish i still had it..also the Stones first manager ALO..was a trendsetter..his first book is worth a read...
  12. ive a book somewhere and the author relates the original london mod look..very early sixties..and literally about a dozen fashion concious guys in the know..i think marc feld (marc bolan) may have been one of them..
  13. yep..i was suede at school..the CO look was almost an overnight one off thing..somebody had the book but it wasnt an easy read..it was always about the look..
  14. not really..though it was banned in most cinemas..it showed at the Tower cinema in Skegness..i blagged the poster..and me and a pal dressed the next night in CO gear..white skinners, black dm,s white FP..bowlers and make up..we were banned from virtually every pub..(the make up i guess) we took photos..and never wore that look again..
  15. as a 15 year old in Skegness..i used to see all the skinheads in the summer..and the fights in the compass gardens!..now as skins began to fade..and smoother haircuts and fashion grew..some remained skins, usually from the backwaters where fashion trends were slower to move..at the Gliderdrome Boston soul music was at the forefront..and die hard skins, smoothies and suedes mixed even when pop bands appeared..so, 70-72 was a big transition..until by 72 long hair was the thing..but still wore skinners to Doc martin boot-tops..and chart reggae was still popular..i guess rarer soul came along in 71..and definitely by 72..when i was looking thru junk shops for 'competition ain't nothin'..'..and some footy fans from London that came to Skeg at that time were amazed at short hair and boots saying''we ditched that look years ago!'..fashion moved more slowly back then..but it was amazing when all the hip guys used buzz words like stomper, sliced tomatoes, sam & kitty..Torch..
  16. a psych inst that was once covered up as the sounds of lane..have only see white/green promos until today..has anyone else got the regular green label issue?
  17. back around late '72 maybe 73..i bought a copy white label blue letters..90p from a selection of other pressings..looked good but there were plenty about so i always though they were boots or reissues..
  18. really..wonder why i didnt figure that out...
  19. whats the story with the booted 45?
  20. after finding the alt version recently on you tube..wondered if this was issued?..in fact has this superb track been released anywhere other that the orig two guitars 45?
  21. ok..possibly the matrix stamps are the same for the NR500 repress..some suggest they were pressed from the same plates..lets see what your promo shows..
