  1. name me ONE soul venue in the 70's that DIDNT play some white sounding 'pop soul' or blue eyed soul or whatever..everybody played some..as for the casino it did play some dreadful tunes sometimes but mostly a lot a great ones..proud to say i went and loved it!!

  4. cant give hard evidence BUT..i'm sure i bought the multicolor/later reissue around late 75..cos i couldnt find an original for sale..too popular esp at the casino..
  5. when i found the champion..it was in a bunch of other sixties soul..mainly Atlantic..some Tamla..all in original sleeves..the owner was surprised to see them..he didnt know he had them..did take me 4 days of diggin however...
  6. yep..thats my copy..which i found in Joburg some years ago..i think on the flip of the sleeve it advertises 8 track tapes..so i think its a 60's release..also the owner of the warehouse said he cleared a record shop of all its stock ..and i thought this was mid 70's..
  7. i found quite a few copies in LA back in the 90's..took a couple and the para one..left the rest..maybe 20..so maybe a west coast press..

  18. i found a mint one in LA years ago..and Dave Rai said its very rare on black issue..
  19. ..my story is really the reverse..back in the late 70's..i had a regular Saturady gig playing northern soul (some chart) at the Chuck Wagon in Skegness..it was very popular so a local club owner at a country club gave me the job there on a Sunday night..he thought i'd be playing disco etc..so i fed in plenty of northern in the guise as new releases or 'will be out next week'..using the Supremes,Tramps,James Brown,Al Green, anything i could use a s a cover up artist name..got away with it for three weeks then..adios..fave was playing Lillie Bryant as Diana Ross.....
  20. oh i know..IL was very keen to bang the black drum early on..look at his liner notes on solid sensations..but he went astray when he did the tailor mades and the disco dross..(obv got carried away in studio 54) and he would play anything black or white if it suited him..i loved the MVP's, Present..hated barnaby Bye..good job we're not all the same..
  21. ah..soul snob..was it the early influence of IL..?..glad you got cured...
  22. wouldnt bother..there's only one version Big Bad Bo's..also live on beach party album..
