  1. The book sounds a great idea, would love to see playlists of sounds played at The Scene, etc. You have covered media coverage that i've seen, interview was NME 17/11/79. The book "Mod-a very British phenomenon" by Terry Rawlings,is worth looking at and has a re-produced biography from one of the 60's magazines. Could also try contacting Pete Townshend for information on his website.
  2. Human Beinz-Nobody but Me , Kill Bill Outsiders-Time won,t let me , Venom (think it was this film,on tele last week)
  3. Theres "Coast to Coast" with Lenny Henry. Not seen this for ages, used to be on the tv a bit. A bit of a comedy with classic Motown all the way through.
  4. The total feeling of escapism, when you're on the dance floor at 4 o'clock in the morning dancing to a fantastic piece of vinyl . The fantastic people you meet.Friends for life!!!!
  5. The "Top 500" can't be slagged off by anyone, for quality music, and an excellant book! If people are happy to go to venues and here the same old 500,why not stay at home and play the CD'S.There are millions of discs out there, worth hearing and in-turn become favorites. If the book captures the scene to date, we need to move on and create another 500 for the future.
  6. All these books published, have IMHO severly damaged the scene as well. The biggest culprit "The Northern Soul Top 100",ruining playlists, educating people, dictating prices, taking the hard work, years of effort and soul out of the scene! Bring on the arc!
  7. I find all these comments regarding his hair colour to be highly Racist. Not a fan myself, maybe a bit of jealousy on here, because he's rich and bedded scores of beautiful ladies
  8. This is correct, i've got one, brilliant LP.There were three releases at the time, another one was the Esquires
  9. My answer to the original question is Yes, i can't believe some of the dealers prices??? Probably explains when you go on their sites they still have the same records for sale a year later! Those with auctions, beggar believe Who is paying these prices(city high flyers?/or people on the Rich-list??? Many of the top dealers have been sitting on these records for years and bought them at a minimal rate ,some of the records i bought in a SOUL-BOWL pack(100 singles for £30)10 years ago, now sell for £100 each. The beauty of ebay is finding a bargain that slips through un-noticed,dealers don't like it because of the charging These people paying thousands for the rarer discs, are not seriously buying to bury with them? they are investing, looking for a return later on.Totally agree with many of the opinions stated
  10. Totally agree with you! Gallagher seems to get on everything ! Wish i was there!!! Pete Meadon ( Mod Legend ) was their manager before Lambert/Stamp.He styled and mentored the complete Mod way of life into the group, probably as far as choice of covers?
  11. You can get this footage on dvd , it's called "amazing journey"and is also on you tube
  12. "Jerry Jackson-It's rough out there"/"I'm gonna paint you a picture" can't get this anywhere! Action label compilations(like the Sue label CDs) Keeping this post Positive, just want to say Thank-you! for making so many QUALITY releases availiable ,from "For Dancers Only" onwards!!!!
  13. I agree with you totally, it's all R"N"B to me EDUCATED FOOLS FROM UNEDUCATED SCHOOLS
  14. Thanks for that, just bought a vinyl copy off the website. What do you think of it?
  15. Great cd in this months Mojo magazine "The New Dictionary Of Blues And Soul" Something for everyone here! and in my opinion track 5- Nicole Willis-If this ain't love, is a future Northern classic!
  16. I don't need no doctor Room full of tears Determination(constapation)/Bricks, broken bottles and (walking )sticks.
  17. Googie Rene - Smokey joe's la la ,same thing i reckon, and any Ramsey Lewis.
  18. Marvin Gaye-no.1 Jackie Wilson,Curtis Mayfield,Otis Redding,Major Lance,Luthur Ingram,Chuck Jackson, Authur Alexander,Terry Callier,Don Covay,Tommy Tate,JJ Barnes,William Bell,David Sea. Betty Everett,Maxine Brown,Esther Phillips,Doris Troy,Big Maybelle,Etta James,PP Arnold, Jackie Ross, Angie Stone.
  19. The last Northern event i attended, i found it very clickie(not freindly, soulfull, like it used to be).All these people were looking at me as if to say "what's this youngster doing here?"and i'm 42.What i can see,in the last ten years, certain promoters have made the scene the new bingo night for the over 50s,and are raking in the cash, with books, videos, dvds on how to be a soulie! The playlists from too many "JIMMY SAVILLE" djs were stale, the top 100,that nearly all is availiable on cd.Like Stafford never happened. It's only from reading playlists and venue reports from this site,i can see a better place!and can actually get excited again! Northern soul is unirversal and appeals to all ages, rather like the mod scene,if people were maybe a bit more welcoming to new blood,it would be a start! Otherwise like when you see people with those Wigan skirts and baggies, they will become the new Teddy Boys of this generation, and how many of them do you see today?
