The Casino Allstars Band To everyone who has looked at us, Firstly Thank you. I Joined this Band who were formally known as Soul Finger ( Stax Atlantic etc) was the first band I have ever been in. There Bass player Brian Walker is a very good mate of mine and we have DJ'd together for as long as I could remember. He asked me to join and at the tender age of 45 i did, on the condition we did something nobody dose ( cover northern Soul ) . There are band out there doing bit such as The Snake etc. But I wanted to cover Bobby Paris , Johnny Bragg,Shane Martin Etc. Don't take my word for it check the web nobody is doing it. We do 35 numbers and it's taken over 18mths hard slog learning these tunes . Sax ,Trumpet,and Drummers have fell by the wayside . Now were out playing to good crowds and loving it. Being a DJ that over the years has always tried to find and play the next big thing rather than try and play whats already big is where i get it from. To hear friends come up and say your brilliant counts for nothing but to have an harden Soul Fan who dose not know me from Adam say it. (makes it for me) see you soon. Paul Kidd

Thanks Ed, but why dose everyone think its about money and bums on seats, were just a band doing something different that's all. I have never sang or been with a band before ever, after getting the chance I chose to cover songs no one has done. ( I WALKED AWAY,I NEED YOU,I CRIED MY LIFE AWAY,THERE TALKIN ABOUT ME, YOU DONT LOVE ME ANY MORE ETC) you see i can't recall ever hearing anyone sing these apart from the original artist. Sorry should have read NS Band, I have not seen Johnny Boy as of yet correct me if i'm wrong dose he sing along with backing tapes. Not that i'm against that, its just were a band and Live Music is another thing. Hopefully you might see us one day ,not to compare but to listen to what were about. Thanks for being honest, Wish I had ABBA's money then i would have thirty in the band like Wille Mitchell then you might get something closer. Can't honestly ever say Ive herd him play it live either on a freezing night in a hall in Stockport with no Central Heating Ha Ha. Thanks again Paul Kidd

Totaly agree , only thing was I had just joined the band ( Soul Finger) ,and turned them away from the Sax /Atlantic stuff they were doing. My suggestion for the name was MrM's but got out voted. I will put it to the band this week, Thanks again Paul Kidd

Thanks I am a bit surprized at the responce to these clips, firstly there only rehearsl takes and on one the drummer is missing and the other one of the sax player is missing . Its hard to get everyone down twice a week. There is a live clip on this site ,just a short one but it gives you an idea of the full sound. We are not out now till the friday the eighth of August at the Casino Lounge ( upstairs at Heaton Norris Conservative club,Stockport) due to holls etc. I will be posting the event this week. To all Northern Soul Fans The Casino Allstars History in the making Paul Kidd and Brian Walker have been Northern Soul DJ's for over 30 years in Stock port and across the country. Brian who also played bass guitar in a Soul Band called Soul Finger who for over the 15 years together became the best Soul band in the North West. However, two years ago their lead singer left to go solo leaving the band without a lead singer and after several attempts with other singers they could not find the right person to take over. Brian who asked Paul if he fancied his luck at being a singer with the band. Paul thought this was laughable as apart from sounding a bit like Tom Jones on Karaoke from time to time, had no experience as a singer so turned down the offer! Persistence prevailed and eventually he agreed to join on one condition, that condition was he was not prepared to sing the songs the band had been playing for years such as mustang sally, my girl etc. Although very good music it had been played out and had had its day. He gave each member a copy of a CD with a few Northern soul records on it, take this home have a listen to it and if you think its ok and we can recreate this sound then I'm on board. They agreed and painstakingly worked out the chords etc to all the numbers we do as there is no sheet music available for these songs, this took over 12mths of hard work rehearsals twice a week to get it just right. The rest is history, and we are now the worlds only Northern Soul band playing such classics as (I walked away / Call on me / I need you / Fortune Teller / They're Talking About Me etc.) Now all that remained was to persuade a demanding Northern Soul following that a live band would appeal to them mixed with records as well. Up to now they had turned their noses up at what they called Commitments type bands (which we are not!). After plugging and putting on the first night for free, (just so they could hear the music we were playing) we left them to judge!. The night at the Casino Lounge (Heaton Norris Conservative Club) was a massive success. Two months on and we had another packed night which was fantastic. Since then the news has spread and the phone hasn't stopped ringing, the band is to travel around the U.K. later this year to perform at Scooter and Soul weekenders and also have been penned in for a European tour early next year including Belgium, Germany and Spain. This month I'm in New York to meet a promoter who runs a Soul Club in Manhattan with a view of a tour of America east coat to West. This would be a dream come true giving the Americans back the music they made for us 40 years ago. The band is performing at the Casino Lounge, Heaton Norris Conservative Club on Friday the 16th May. We are a six piece band, Paul or Steve on Keyboards, Keith on Sax, Ben on Drums, Brian on Bass Guitar, Big Al on Lead Guitar, & The Kidd as Lead Singer.
