Well, some are not 20 - 30 years younger but some are even 40 years younger but anyway.... I admire people who stick to their guns and it was as always a pleasure to meet new people and friends from the UK (some are even 64+) at the Hamburg Soul Weekender who do respect and also live the whole ovo, rare soul collecting, dancing all-night and also having the odd tipple and maybe a few more!!!!!!!
-
Jesus the singer often got bugger all then and even now with reissues !!!! Do ya bloody home work on publishing and royalites within the music industry and stop digging at people who buy or play or at least respect original vinyl !!!! as I have already mentioned above... What I find also interresting is that the european soul scene as well as the rnb and reggae scene is slowly getting more & more into the ovo spirit even at a pub level!!! People also treating ovo venues, dj's & collectors with respect not with contempt & constand ridicules like in Britain!!! Right now the uk scene is more and more deluted by a jolly good knee up and piss up soul don't give a flying monkey night out play what I want anything goes and do as I say....
-
C'mon we had discused this soooo many times that some regard original vinyl as the very first release of a track (some even demo only) and don't even play Lp only tracks (for whatever reason) but the most common outa boundaries for ovo are that local then national or international releases which have not been released to cater for the northern soul crowd especially and are more or less within a year of the first release are ok to play. So, there you have it !!! Within those boundaries it is more or less ok to call it original vinyl !!!! Btw most of the legal reeissues even up to today got most of the artists bugger all or just a few bob!!! If you want to support the artist go to a live show or buy a cd/lp/ or a reeissue from reputable record companies/dealers!!! So, as within the art world ...to support the artist/ or relatives you would buy a print of an expensive painting (if the copy rights are still in full/ or in part with the artist) but to enjoy the real deal you would have to go to a museum

I think it is just another piss take and that’s why most people can’t be bothered to give you an answer. If ya search the forum you will find the answer of what for most constitutes original vinyl. Just do whatever you want & be happy !!!! I just went to a fantastic weekender in Hamburg and dare I say ovo and I am too frigging tired after dancing my nuts off for three days to a great mix of trad. northern crossover modern funky northern rnb .... and please do not ask me what defines funky northern or crossover as it has been discused almost on a weekly basis the same as OVO ... What I find also interresting is that the european soul scene as well as the rnb and reggae scene is slowly getting more & more into the ovo spirit even at a pub level!!! People also treating ovo venues, dj's & collectors with respect not with contempt & constand ridicules like in britain!!! Right now the uk scene is more and more deluted by a jolly good knee up and piss up soul don't give a flying monkey night out.... good night

a proper system brings it out quite nicely !!!!!! played it out @ motte allnigher a few times & it sounded fab !!!!!
-
whata fantastic record & sadly underplayed in most places !!!!! Wish ya luck !!!!!

...hmm there are still a few unknown/semi-known tracks at least for the majority of non-dj punters ;) ..... also for a younger crowd or even future generations etiquite and uniqueness within a music/club scene may have it's attraction as well as the details of how to dress propper as a mod, skinhead, punk....and so on.... I would still like to have cheddar cheese from around sommerset and a lovely bordeaux from france in the near future btw !!!! funny though that some of the I don't care about the format brigade were up in arms about the past and current soul film regarding the right clothes and so on....
-
...do ya guys actually remember traveling to a venue to hear tracks you could rarely hear anywhere else and the excitement of dancing to them as well as the tingeling feeling of knowing that you belong to a rather ''secret'' and very special scene'' ???
-
sorry to say that but the uk soul scene is slowly watered down by the just want to have fun & don't care about this or that brigade within the last 12 years or so and will end up the same as any other inner city disco.... there is not even respect for certain aspects like original vinyl, diverse playlists, date clashes and so on just constant arguments and excuses from dick & tom... ah well at least in europe and funny enough in the usa things seem to have developed quite nicely with a lot of respect and alltough maybe not always a house full of hard core soulies but at least promoters, djs collectors and hard core soul punters spreading the faith and keeping it special !!!!! newies to the scene always get that little tingle once the get hooked because of ALL the rather snobby aspects of the soul scene....like the dancing, the ovo & collecting madness, the traveling, the friendlyness and so on.... ah well who cares !!!! ... thank god the hamburg soul weekender is on next weekend
-
exactly and also playing or owning them on imports was THE aspiration for most dj's & collectors... ah well some resorted to ...dink it out tommy or ralph ;) ....and yes before ya say it ...yep, I was not around but was chatting away to people who are sadly not with us anymore

Kent 100club anniversary 45 came out first

-
I am glad I didn't go, otherwise I would be a friggin old fart

The main difference I would say is that the styles are often mixed in just one room and you can take a few risks without people coming up to you and say take that shit off (well very very rarely) !!! You get lots of oldies but also unknown gems. Trad. Northern, Crossover, Modern, Funky stuff, rnb and so on depending on the flow of the night are getting played. Some events lean more to one style or the other. We have generally a hard-core soul crowd (soulies, mods, skinheads, scooterboys and so on) as well as just people who like to dance to soul now and then. Marc Forrest already mentioned some tracks but I would also include: Brother Love Precious Dove (heavily played the last two years by The Jan from Hamburg) and Marcs Marvelows Mama Said..... well the bastard ;) got the only copy in Germany so it may not be big (due to being impossible to get) but Jesus what a track!! ... but many djs have their own little favourites and are sometimes picked up by others!! Well, I would love to pick up the Marvelows-Mama Said but it's bloody unreleased ... or is it for sale Marc ;) The preferred styles are also often changing while rnb was a little more on the menu 7 years ago ......Burned Toast & Black Coffee ..now crossover, funky northern but also lot's of trad. northern is back on the playlist. Also, some forgotten oldies are getting played as well as maybe some tunes which are considered overplayed in the UK but have been neglected in Europe. Nonetheless many tunes which are hot in the UK are played in Europe as well !!!! Anyway here are some tunes which may not be big but are quite popular in Hamburg @ the Motte Allnighter: Oldies: Brand New faces Brand New faces Funky Soul: Lewis Clark Red Man's Revenge Modern Soul: Fat Jack Band Hey It's Summer RnB: Mark Holder Part Time Loving Mid-tempo: Ronnie Baker The Big Wide World Obscure Soul: Sun & Rain -This is Love Group Harmony: Voltaires Movin On As for the scene in Hamburg.... Stax & Motown were very popular in Hamburg in the 60's but were overshadowed by skiffle & beat.... Mods/Beatniks did listen to some soul but the scene quickly vanished until the 2nd wave of mods reached Hamburg... In Hamburg from 79 onwards it was firstly soul & rnb what kept the mods moving but soon garage was the preferred diet of the mods. At allnighers throughout the 80's/90's mods, scooterists, skinheads & herberts made up the punters. In the 90's Northern Soul became a stable diet for more and more traditional Skinheads in Germany and also the mods found their way back into soul as well as normal punters. At the same time the music policy at many scooter runs went far far away from northern soul ......house, techno, hip hop and a little bit of northern soul & ska was keeping the crowd happy. Now, the scooter scene is pretty small (but getting reactivated) and somehow northern soul crept back into it but you only see a few at allnighters.(but hopefully more in the future) The rock & roll scene however seems to turn up a little more often nowadays and even some of them enjoy a little bit of modern ;) .... In Hamburg however soul, funk, acid jazz and so on......was always quite popular troughout the 80's/ early 90's with the ''normal'' punters. Especially the mojo club got a few people into soul/northern soul as well. so now you get a mixed crowd and mixed sounds at most nighters....

search with formats (records) before you hit the rnb/ soul botton mate !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Importance Of Melba Moore's The Magic Touch
viphitman replied to Ady Croasdell's topic in All About the SOUL
At it's peak the scooterists certainly made up a big chunk of the ''northern scene'' but mods & a few skinheads had always a soft spot for a little bit of soul. In Hamburg from 79 onwards it was firstly soul & rnb what keept the mods moving but soon garage was the preverred diet of the mods. At allnighers throughout the 80's/90's mods, scooterists, skinheads & herberts made up the punters. Soul was always quite popular in Hamburg but I guess the scooter scene certainly got a lot of people into Northern Soul as well. In the 90's Northern Soul became a stable diet for more and more tradional Skinheads in Germany and also the mods found their way back into soul. At the same time the music policy at many scooter runs went far far away from northern soul ......house, techno, hip hop and a little bit of northern soul & ska was keeping the crowd happy. Now, the scooter scene is pretty small and somehow northern soul crept back into it but you only see a few at allnighters. The rock & roll scene however seems to turn up a little more often nowadays and even some of them enjoy a little bit of modern ;) .... In Hamburg however soul, funk, acid jazz and so on......was always quite popular troughout the 80's/ early 90's with the ''normal'' punters. Especially the mojo club got a few people into soul/northern soul as well. So, would the soul scene survived without the scooter scene ??? Yes, but it would have been a lot smaller !!!!!!!! ..... it was the whole ''Kent Package'' what got many people into northern soul who had no connection to any scene. Nevertheless, the ''Magic Touch'' certainly was a biiiiiiiig tune and always on the menue at allnighters & runs !!!! -
be special... make it ovo ... the rest has more or less been already mentioned !!

What Do Think To This Then Is Some Going To Be Lucky
viphitman replied to Ted Massey's topic in Look At Your Box
a sad state of affairs !!!! -
Just watched it and I really enjoyed it. There are bits n bobs not right but jesus if you would always watch any film regarding a certain place, time or subject matter on the complete truth and merits of absolute accuracy of it, you could pick holes in every film. I bet the mafia were laughing their hat off at godfathers but I guess most of you would still regard it as a good film. Anyway, a good little drama not up for any awards but still very enjoyable to watch!!!

It would be great if someone could post a clip please !!!

New Discoveries 6Ts/7Ts Northern & Rare Soul
viphitman replied to Russ Vickers's topic in Look At Your Box
Ok, most of us can not come up with the big guns like butch and co but there are lots of tunes which very very rarely graced the decks and could be considered as a ''new discovery'' as only a few collectors may be aware of those tunes. I hope a few more people going to post some tracks !!!!!! I did post this quite a few times and I have also been playing this for a good few years (8-9 I think??) but until recently it never came up on any playlist. Also, when I asked some long standing dj's about it they didn't know about it at the time. It's not a manic stomper but a nice little mid tempo soul number which also became a Motte Oldie over the last few years ;) Sorry for the bad sound but it sounds fantastic played out !!! I hope you guys enjoy it !!!
