What I always find interesting is that northern soul in the early 80's until mid 90's is often portrayed in books, personal statements, video footage and so on from a quite insular view. By then northern soul was for many people a stable diet on the scooter, mod and a little bit on the skinhead scene all over europe. Collecting original vinyl was not as big as it is now (well not as big in comparison to the uk) but ''Kent'' & ''Northern Soul Stories lp's'' , German/ Italian!Spanish.. Motown lp's & 7" were very much in vogue & sought after !!!! I guess you could argue that allnighters were run a little different then in the uk with a rather mixed crowd but hmm.. there was a torch burning in europe

I found them a while ago somewhere on the net and I think a few old skinheads were posting & commenting on some of them and said they were taken 68-70 at an Allnighter !!! C'mon Ady get on here I think you mentioned market harborough allnighter 68-69 as well

Can any of you shed some lights on how popular soul/rare Soul was with the original skinheads !!! A few stories & pictures about it would be fab too !! Ady Crosdale mentioned his early beginnings were with skinheads who were mainly into soul !!!! It would be great if some of you could set the record straight of how popular soul & rare soul was with the old boot boy brigade !!! I guess Soul was more popular with the early skinheads up north 68-72 ???

bloody outsourcing.... it appears records sent registered to Germany are in some areas not processed through the national post office anymore but through the private sector..... the company in use is understaffed with an underpayed workforce and not very well managed.. The delivery attempt notice is not always given so make sure you communicate the tracking number as soon as possible to the buyer/seller.... The pick up points are a little old school and not always close by....now the dry cleaner, barber and so on will hold the parcel for about 7-9 days.....

Yes, indeed Pete, in Europe you have a few 45 + punters but the main amount of people are youngish... but at the same time I know a lot of folks 55 + from the UK with the same ideas & believes... I just believe in buy local think global, support products where made in ..... still means made in & not bloody screwed together .... , original format at allnighters/nighters but anyway each to their own I guess

I hope in years to come I can still ....eat cheddar made in Sommerset, drive a german car made in Germany, have a bottle of champagne from France ..... go to a gallery and admire real works of art, go to a shop and buy the real McCoy… The issue with ovo is always whether djs should play ovo at allnighters and nighters or not …!!!! Whether a punter decides to buy whatever format is not the bone of contention for most !!!! While late 80’s/ early 90’s the ovo wasn’t really an issue as the scene was small, exciting and dedicated and not every dick & tom and famous dj wanted to dj for their own ego !!! …sorry to say that but the soul scene is slowly watered down by the just want to have fun & don't care about this or that brigade within the last 12 years or so and will end up the same as any other inner city disco.... there is not even respect for certain aspects like original vinyl, diverse playlists, date clashes and so on just constant arguments and excuses from dick & tom... in comparrison it appears in europe and funny enough in the usa as well things seem to have developed quite nicely with a lot of respect and alltough maybe not always a house full of hard core soulies but at least promoters, djs, collectors and hard core soul punters spreading the faith and keeping it special !!!!! newies to the scene always get that little tingle once they get hooked because of ALL the rather snobby aspects of the soul scene....like the dancing, the ovo & collecting madness, the traveling, the friendlyness, dedication and so on....

already counting the days to the next one !!!!!! ah well we got plenty of soul in Hamburg but the Weekender is such a great place to meet new and old friends from all over Europe, listen to some music accross the board (from oldies 2 newies) ,buying records, dancing all night, having a few beers, chilling out on sunday on the boat..... and trying to recover for about a week

Thanx so much guys!!! I would love to hear from the big boys as well !!!!! Manship, Pat Brady, Tim Brown..... From my personal experiences the more expensive records seem to go more and more to mainland europe. Reissues seem to go 85 % to the UK. There are Northern Soul Nighters / Mixed Nighters with Funk & Reggae happening now in Indonesia & Mexico where djs play some original vinyl as well !!! I was also supprised when band members of Men of North Country (Israel) played a few good tunes after the show. Scandinavia & mainland Europe had Northern Soul Events for 30 odd years but the collecting side has increased over the last 15 years. Well, not like in the UK but people prefer now to collect original vinyl !!! As it seems 80 % of the tunes still go to the UK, but I wonder if that'll change over the next 10 years or so when most old school soulies will pack in their collecting habbit. The younger element of the scene in the UK seem not so much into the ovo collecting & ovo dj'ing but maybe the new film brings a couple of more potential collectors on board. Some more feedback also from the occasional seller is very appriciated !!!

Where are all the records going???? A question for occasional & professional sellers!!!!!!! Out of interest, where are the majority of your expensive records (300+) going?? >> (country/percentage) Did you encounter a change of destinations to where you ship your records within the last 2 years (towards any particular areas) ???? Was there an increase of sales going out to: Eastern Europe, Israel, USA, Asia, Mainland Europe or any other rather odd destinations ….. ??? Did you encounter an increase of sales over the last two years of reissues/pressings & where to ???
