    I was working as a manager for a big pub chain in London for a while and the area manager was a northern soul fan too. He ordered for each pub he was overseeing up to 4 Northern Soul CD's through the juke box operator so the staff can listen to some propper music ;)

    ...that got me into northern soul.... just kidding.... there are a few good german motown sides by the supremes and so on... I do have a few lps from peru/venezuela with major soul hits like um um um in spanish with a nice latin feel to it !!

    soul mods started with the odd shuffle and a little backdrop here and there (as seen by the flamingos and others)...it was also a great excuse while getting busted by the cops at a club .. (droping the gear on the floor while dancing or picking it up a little later when everbody was sweet and dandy again) ... then a little later someone accidently slipped on some dodgy pills trying frantically to get up... that's when all the crazy acrobatics moves came in... https://youtu.be/xMRLrf4pNn4

Let’s celebrate the 4[sup]th[/sup] Motte Allnighter Anniversary with another top dj line up !!!! Special guest Dj for this event will be Ms Dienel (Stockholm/Dresden) & Andreas Wedel (München) !!!!! Both gentlemen are top kingspinners with some fantastic records for your dancing pleasure !!! Last but not least your host viphitman will introduce you to some obscure gems and entertain you with some great classics !!!!!! So, if you are serious about Northern Soul, this is the place to be!!! Get down, do ya backdrops, spins & slide away on a fantastic wooden dance floor !!! The music policy is to play the very best of mainly 60's Soul with quite a few 70's & Modern/Crossover/RnB tunes thrown in for good measure on Original Vinyl Only !!! All Djs are encouraged to play obscure and underplayed tracks as well as classics within their sets. That means, that you are able to hear some fantastic music which you may not get to hear on any other format or even very rarely at any other place!! You just have to be there on that fantastic wooden dance floor to feed ya soul !!!...

    well, without the record searching & collecting madness for the next biggie and the ovo ethos since day one, the soul scene as a whole wouldn't have exsisted in the first place and therefore a big chunk of the market for selling cd's !!!!! anyway, people like ady crosdale play original platters, sell, produce & buy cd's + support artists whenever possible through live appearances and so on.... as stated in a previous post, I & I and many others buy cd's occasionally.... but still play out ovo at nighters and watch as many live performances possible !!! so, no irony there

    I play ovo at nighters & buy the odd cd for listening pleasure only. Once a rare or unknown track has been played on the scene from ovo and people like the track, demand for a record is created as not everyone is a collector (thank god) so a cd shall be released by a reputable record company and hopefully a few cents are sent to the license holder !!!! If the artist is still alive a few performances shall give him/her a direct reward and hopefully a great day to remember & cherrish... in a perfect world that is .....

    here ya go... the first two tracks are almost Motte Allnighter Oldies over here in Hamburg but have not yet arrived properly in the UK !!! The 3rd track is a fantastic little 60's mover which I hope will break as it has been a firm favourite of mine for many years. Known to collectors & spun at the odd soul night but it never really took off !!!

    Two friends of mine got plastered at the Hamburg Soul Weekender and carried on drinking after 7 am..... armed with a couple of cans the spotted a queue and thought well ..don't know what they are queuing up for but it must be good....after 40 minutes it was their turn but no fancy goods or a lovely aftershow drinking club was on offer.....but tickets for a good space at a very popular fleamarket caused all this mayhem.... well they bought two good spots of 2 meters each for the following week at the local fleamarket ;) ..it could have been worse I guess when ya randomly queuing up ;)

    a little expensive on manships but still a fantastic & reasonable rare record !!!! I have been playing it over the last 10 years first at a little do in London and now in Germany to a great reception !!!

    Hmmm, I guess as always with northern soul books, videos, articles and so on, an insular view prevails. All over Europe you have since the early 80's Northern Soul events which went through their own little changes in music policy, sounds being played, attendances and mix of punters. There are a few thousand fans on the continent overall with some attending events on a regular basis and others only occasionally. The music policy in Europe is very often a mix of oldies and upfront/underplayed sounds at various events. Three tracks for instance which guarantee a full dancefloor are Charlene & The Soul Serenaders Can you win, Salt & Pepper Man of My World and Brother Love Precious Dove. Lots of northern soul oldies are being played as well..... and one of the all time classics top 5 would probably be Melba Moore Magic Touch !!! If you would include Europe and the rare undeplayed scene in the UK in your book, I guess your chart would look a little different. So, maybe just say Gold Soul Top 500 UK Only Charts of Northern Soul Sounds !!!
