viphitman replied to viphitman's topic in Record Wants
still wanted -
There are problems with Royal Mail as well. Within the last 2 months 2 records dissapeared and another two arrived after 6/7 weeks here in Germany from the UK (from the US it took 8 weeks for 4 records, one got missing )!!!! Now if I want to buy records ....even cheap ones ...from the UK or any other country, it's int. signed + tracking only + fast shipping ...!!!!

For me it must be the comedy sale of the month and a very strong contender for comedy sale of the century .... if he sells it..

Articles: Aachen Soul Weekender March 8th and 9th 2013
viphitman replied to Dave Rimmer's topic in Front Page News & Articles
Great review & I bloody hope so that I can finally make it to the Aachen Weekender next year !!! -
I have to say regarding soul I may have a few records I am not so fond of but even though I got some in my head which are a little overplayed, I do not have a single song I truly hate !!!! Even with other styles of music there is obviously some stuff I don't like but wouln'd say I hate it. For me listing & getting into soul especially, made me a more mellow and a better person. Fighting was quite a big part of my life and although I wasn't a twat who went around bashing up people with no reason.... being a traditional skinhead and following a football team with a clear stand agianst racism for god knows how many years now ment that fights were almost a weekly occurance and often unavoidable. But even by just sitting in a local pub, going on a bus, playing football....by carring a little bottle of hate inside ya for whatever reason ..... bang... ya get sucked into it.... If ya full of hate and anger you will always attract THE other person who is in the same state of mind of hate.... Somehow subconsciously you are looking for THE one...and trust me you will find the only one in the village of ultra violence.... sorry, I went on a bit now... anyway, there isn`t a single song I hate but a couple I am not too fond of Peace & Soul

vinyl is more profitable than producing cds for some manufacturer and even smaller record labels (depends on various factors such as distrubition) vinyl is of better quality and has strong cultural values in comparison to CD's/downloads in many countries vinyl sales are on the increase (Germany: 2011 1,65 million new records) cd sales are falling fast while download sales go up but at the same time the value of physical ownership (for the listener) of music is on the increase so vinyl will remain a niche market but profitable enough and prefered by many people that it will not just disappear ;) btw. the figures do not include second hand vinyl

Chalky, we missunderstood each other !!! I believe that there is a huge legacy with all the aspects myself and others have mentioned in previous posts. I just don't understand when people say there isn't one. Btw I forgot the exclamation mark ... in saying ''onyl a handful''... and I completely agree with you that there is a very rich legacy of Northern Soul !!!
-
I just don't get it !!! In the mid/end 80's when in the UK ''only a handful were keeping the faith'' and most were also not aware of the popularity of Northern Soul in Europe, I would probably understand such statement. But now (with the internet to connect & inform people).... you have allnighters and collectors all over the world with sometimes a very young crowd.... A friend of mine was record hunting 3 weeks ago in some little village in the USA (he is a pro and goes 4 times a year and travels hundreds of miles each time he goes around)...... There he was thinking, lord this place is in the middle of nowhere I am not sure if I'll find a few goodies... ... I must have been the first human being asking for rnb & soul since.... ah well he was looking through some stuff somewhere and then he spotted a poster..... Northern Soul Night next Saturday !!!! So, there is a huge legacy !! As for rnr and blues the scene has seen a huge revival with gigs, clubs, magazines, festivals all over europe !!!!!!

oh and a huge bunch of old farts still dancing till dawn ;)
-
for me & countless other soulheads A huge body of artistic musical output what otherwise would have been lost !!! Great music !!! A fantastic & unique style of dancing !! A place where everyone is welcome as long as they respect certain aspects of the scene !!! Total happyness and bliss while dancing to your favourite tune and forgetting all the problems around you !! Total happyness and bliss while dancing and thinking about happy times !!!! Friends for life !! Having an instand bond with total strangers you never met before !!! An empty wallet but a treasure drove full of fantastic records which give you pleasure on a daily basis !!! Peace of mind after spending the previous years constantly fighting almost every weekend !!! Funny fashion items !!! A more open society in Britain !!! A world wide music scene !!! The excitment of record hunting !!! Increase of sale of..... talcum and a few other things ;) as for other youthcults......a musical backbone for scooterists, revival mods & skinheads !!! ... and all other aspects mentioned above...!!!

Btw The Voltaires are good example !! I played this since the early 90's in Hamburg then I moved to London for 12 years !! When I played it in London some old established collectors came up and asked what it was !!! So, it was known to some in the north east but for most of the punters in London it was new & fresh !! But I rarely dj'ed in London !!! On the other side Ronnie Baker: Big Wide World is still obscure in the Uk and I think only John Willis is playing it right now regulary !!! I was hoping some dj's who are not playing all over the country come up with some underplayed/obscure tunes which are now big faves at one particular venue they are a resident in (or are a regular guest dj) !!! Surely some tracks will have some exposure at other venues but are still fairly new to most soulies !!!
-
yep that's what I ment !!!! All the other tracks (Sun & Rain: This Is Love, Ronnie Baker: Big Wide World, Fat Jack Band: Hey It's Summer) are a little obscure but the Voltaires has been played before but is still a little under the radar for most punters !!! So, it doesn't matter if one particular track has had a few spins before at another venue as long as it stayed a rather local favorite or a collectors choice !!!! It's about tracks which are now still underplayed or obscure but are becoming real dance floor fillers at one particular nighter at the moment or are have even become classics in that little circle !!!!
-
yes but at some point it should really be about sharing great tunes !!! I played those mentioned above over the last few years and they are almost motte oldies by know !! The voltaires has been in my set for almost 17 years (both sides) but I was fortunate enough to be able to run a venue for the last 4 years, so people associate the track (movin' movin' on ) mostly with the motte allnighter !!! It had a few spins before in the uk but most punters just knew about it after ''my my baby'' became popular in the uk.
-
C'mon, there must be some obscure or underplayed played tunes which work really well at one particular venue at the moment. Tunes you have build up to the extent that they become firm favourites at one particular venue but do rarely get played somewhere else. It does not matter if the track had a few spins before, I am talking about tracks which have become dance floor fillers after you gave them a little push for a while at a certain venue !!!! In the past we had a few wilton lifeline 100 club tunes but I believe also some of the smaller open minded clubs do play tracks which are under the radar but really have the punters rocking at that particular venue at the moment. Don't be shy
-
Just wondered what underplayed or fairly unknown tunes are going down very well at certain venues at the moment. Please choose 4 records which work really well at one particular venue you are a resident in. Or choose 4 tracks which can be associated with one particular venue right now !! my top 4 for the motte allnighter are: Sun & Rain: This Is Love Ronnie Baker: Big Wide World Fat Jack Band: Hey It's Summer Voltaire's: Movin' Movin' On

Record Collections - Sell Now Before The Market Drops
viphitman replied to MikeHinNewJersey's topic in All About the SOUL
hmmm, have to say a lot of rare records seem to hit the market right now and a few people start selling their collection. I guess now would be the time if you still want to have top dollar for your most valuable records. The +/- 50 pound records seem not to sell too well. There are a few indemanders but I guess the late 80's early 90's prices would be a realistic figure you could expect in the ''near'' future !!! As discussed in a previous post the uk market is still the strongest overall although records do sell all over the world now. But I am still surprised that even through the recession most people were very reluctant to sell all of their records to fund their living expenses. The time when prices will go down is probably when the majority of older british collectors decide to rather have a few comfortable years before they clock off. The few trophy hunters outside the uk will hoover up all the rare items but I guess the huge amount of rare records will saturate the market in the end and prices will have to go down. But guys, you can't put a value on enjoyment those fantastic records have given you over the years. ... just make sure you share them in the end and be not stupid enough to burry them with ya (bootlegs would be ok I guess ) !!!! -
Top soul duo !!! The lp is fantastic and Baby Come Back gets the odd spin here in Hamburg !!!
-
well I do have me bargains from the lean times of northern soul too ( bough for a quit ...now goes for a few hundrets) but sometimes you take some tunes for granted until they become big tickets or indemanders or whatever.... even now there are many tunes under the radar, rare and not so rare which may get a spin at the odd allnighter and wooooooooosh price goes up because the bugger is actually quite rare ;)
-
I guess around 40-60 squit in coconut sauce It's quite hard to get hold off ...I have missed the few cheap ones on sale a couple of years ago at some lists and on ebay !! It's off the radar for most but a fantastic little tune !! another soul seranaders ??? bloody missed that one when it was 30-40 pounds !!!!
-
