Hi rob, did you dance or listen to rare soul records just at home or did ya go to partys of some sort to enjoy the sounds????

Yep, it would be nice to hear more from the place where most were played first after all. As I am sure the ''vacuum'' had record players at the local party, radio station, living room and so on!!!! The funny thing is if you buy ''northern records'' the ''slow side'' is often hammered to death !!!

This is just fantastic and really made my day !!!!! Video Footage from the Philipines of all places where a little Northern Soul scene is fledging its wings!!!!! Early beginnings but a life time of passion for many I am sure !!!!

Unfortunately most of the time some chancer thinks there is something expensive in it rather then some ''worthless'' records and quite often people dump it within minutes!!!! Make sure you check the area!!!! I do hope he will get them back !!!!

No worries there will always be propper clubs and up for it soulies, maybe just not as much !!! As for other popular music forms which where in a dire state when northern soul was at it's peak.... rock n roll , swing and r & b is having a huge revival with dance classes, concerts, fashion shows, clubs, pubs....the lot!!!! Northern Soul will always have that mod, skinhead, scooterboy, funkster , tank top n flares connection and will always draw people from those scenes as well !!!

What gets a little on me nerves is the focus on dj'ing and collecting rather than dancing!! C'mon it's great to see propper northern soulin and that's what really keeps it alive and attractive!!! I frantically collect and dj but for me it is the dancing and the friendly atmosphere what makes northern soul special !!!!! ( ) ( ) I do see light at the end of the tunel in the uk as projects like young souls & northern soul film keep the focus on dancing!! The scene will get smaller but that's certainly for the better!!!! This may only be happening in the bigger cities but it does happen and it's the only way to get younger people into it rather then the prospect of spending lots of dosh on records. I think a youngster is rather gobsmacked by the old farts fantastic dancing rather then his collection. I have to say some of you older guys can dance like the devil and it's such a pleasure to watch!!! Great moves, fantastic timing and even some great acrobatics!!!! The collecting site will come along anyway as some like to dig a little deeper!!! ...Ovo club nights will actually help to bring youngsters on the collecting side as expensive overplayed oldies playlists can be exchanged for some cheaper underplayed oldies or newies!!! The prices will come down, the scene in the north will definatly get a lot smaller but a few venues will make it worthwhile for the few who like to travel!!! The rest of the country will have a few good nights here and there and in 10 years time a healthy mix of young and old will keep the faith!!!

In 50 years time technology like elp will be cheap as chips ..... also in 1967 people will have said things in a simelar way about collecting & playing records. So, looking at where we are now, I am sure things will more or less be the same! The good thing is, the szene will be a little smaller therefore more ultra rare records from non djs will hit the decks in mint minus!!!

I do advertise well in advance on soul source and also had some people coming over from England and Scotland to have a great weekend away in Hamburg. At our 1st Anniversary Martin Bradley was our guest DJ and he behaved well!!! Our locals thougth he was an imposter and actually from Switzerland!!!! Well, I do not like lager louds but we don't serve carling Mind you we in Hamburg like to have a good laugh and do love to pose with a beer.... !!!!

There are plenty of new dj's but where are the good dancers of the future??? There is plenty of collecting and djing going on around the globe but the proper dancing is lacking a little on quality wherever you go!!!! The atmosphere is still fantastic, the venue packed, the music great but I am more concerned that the focus on dancing is fading a little. After all it's a frigging dance culture and not stamp collecting Maybe I am a bit on a mission recently and posting a little tooo much about dancing to northern soul on various sites but hey this at least gives me some hope !!!

Spot on mate !! I had more muscles then brain when I went to my first allnighters and could even barely dance to ska. I watched, got hooked, learned a few steps and since then enjoyed every minute!!! Now I am a little on the thin side and can move a little more sophisticated then dem days.

Just want to say how pleased I am about this project where the focus is on the DANCING to Northern Soul!!!! I think the whole crew & dancers doing a great job and you can see the fantastic progress and fun this brings to all the people involved. I am all for playing original records and I am also a nerdy collector myself BUT without the proper dancing skills and the atmosphere this creates a Northern Soul Club would be nothing but another disco (with fantastic music) !! People go always on about tunes labels.... but I hope the dancing skills and moves will once again become the centre of attention for young and old in the near future!!!! I am soooo looking forward to see the film but I am more pleased to see more kids strutting their stuff properly on the dance floor !!!

I think this dance class ( and hopefully the film as well) is great to watch and may gets a few interested rather then this mainstream feature watched by ???? !!! Most of the kids are doing it for the film but once you check out all the little videos you can see how they progress and enjoying it more and more !!!

Jesus ya moaning old bastards The feature is a little cheesy and has a few inaccuracies but is pretty harmless nonetheless. I do understand why some bits get on you nerves but I could also moan about the fact that the current european szene is never mentioned in any uk production talking about northern soul in general!!!! Btw. we have excellent nights/allnighter/weekenders with great records & great dancers lalalalala.... oh shit now I did moan about it ....ah well...
