  3. Hurray, I was just about to start another ovo topic but this seems like fun and gets the old glogger movin For me those soulie cirlce skirts look shite whether on a kid or a lady with a bus pass !!! Uhhh I like upfront and oldies allnighter BUT OVO rules must be applied at all times, I do stroke my chin occasionally once the brain gets hit with...............................................an awful track or the odd knuckle sandwhich, I also dance all night (pretty good I am told), talk gibberish (quite often I am told) and being a nuisanse (not that often) to my neighbours once I am safely in my own yard after a good night out.... But in the end just were and do what ya friggin want & be happy

  9. C'mon time for another ovo debate If everyone would play ovo then you have less events but the ones which survive the cull whether they are oldies only or upfront or accross the board or whatever .... gonna be fantastic and exciting to attend with more punters & better venues (due to numbers through the door) and hopefully better sound systems as well !!!
  10. I do not know the seller but it's the first time that basically all bids are set on private for an item I am interested in . I often check the bidders activities with the seller as well due to all that shill bidding. Maybe ebay could allocate different numbers for private auctions and show the percentage of bidding activities with the buyer so at least you know the sequence of bidding, the bidding activities with the seller as well as the amount of different buyers.
  11. Hmmm, I just wondered ....but if you got for an ebay item 11 bids and 10 of them have their identities protected, surely that is a little dodgy especially when the item is a current indemander???

  13. Great to hear that some of you still collect even when the bus pass is for free !!!!!!!!! I think once the budget is tighter, there is also a great chance to look a little deeper into soul music !!! Lots off cheaper tunes which have been overlooked for various reasons can open up a whole new world of listening pleasure. There are still lots of great & cheap and sometimes even unknown tunes. Sometimes we all get a little carried away with it by chasing the expensive stuff but a lovely bargain makes collecting even more enjoyable!!!!.. Geof please change your picture... I always get the munchies everytime I see it Well, I am off again to stuff my face
  14. Oh jesus I know the tunes and the prices and if you want to start from scratch and just want to play the biggies for one hour it may cost you a few grant but not the mentioned 250K .... As I said it's a silly circus and one mecca track which cost ya just 20 quit is by Denise Keeble .....''Before It Falls Apart'' but I am afraid the revival circus already is falling apart.... btw. it's not all about the big expensive tunes and never should be even for a revival set!!! Sooooo, many top tunes were played at the Mecca but a ''cheating kind'' may not have to be on the turn table but also certainly not in the air
  15. A great 2 hour mecca set will cost ''ya bugger all'' in real collecting terms or are the old boys now setting up a soul revival marathon lasting a few days ??!!!! All this money talk is bollocks if you just have a 1/2 hour set!!! It's a silly circus and like watching a cover band in a pub or any original artist singing playback !!!
  16. I just wondered while many people seem to sell off their record collection right now if others consider buying records again once they draw their pension or if they rather want to splash out on posh holidays or other long-held dreams ??? Secondly, if you are still collecting would keep on collecting once you have reached retirement age or would you part with your precious goodies ???
  17. I rather hear some young kid playing a set of original oldies, a few underplayed gems or even unknown tunes (to me and maybe a few others) then an old dj living of his past. Great job on him for doing all that YK2 stuff and being a top jock in the past!!!! But all that ...my best buddy and former hero circus is just not right.... If in twenty years time Butch would decide to play his former discoveries from CD's I would still respect his former glory but still think it's a frigging cop out!!!! Also, that whole biiiiig DJ disovering records malarkey is putting the actual artists, sound engineer and label owners wayyyyyyyyyy down the line which is not good!!!!
  18. I don't get.... taking along boots and CDs to a revival night then playing the original stuff somewhere else??? He stated himself he sold off almost everything !!! Hmmmm, I still expect the original dj to play the real deal at a soul revival night that's the whole point otherwise it's just a silly circus. It's the same thingy for me with an oldschool house dj .... I like to hear the good old mixing of the wax and the fiddling with all those funny bits n bobs!!! Nevermind, good luck to all of you !!!
  19. If he would play it from the orignal format at places where an open deck policy regarding styles of soulful music is in place then hey great!!! But I still have a vinyl fetisch ..... and it sounds sooooo much better then a CD
  20. Btw. Altough I do not like bits and bobs about him I have the greatest respect for Ian Levine for playing as far as I know a set of original records and getting into it again in full swing !!! It would be great if Colin would do the same then I might shuffle along !!!
