  1. Great that you like it too !!! Both tracks go down very well mixed in with a few classics and slowly becoming Motte Oldies ;)
  2. oh another newish 70's modern tune probably not everyone's cup of tea but i really do like it and played it out a couple of times is the fat jack band !!!
  3. I have been spinning the sun & rain over a year in Hamburg + @ hip city once and it went down very well everytime !!!! If ya spin it to an open minded crowd with some known northern with a similar tempo it works a treat. But as always newish tunes have to be mixed in quite nicely in order to work.... But for me a current biggie is this marc Forrest spin altough he has been spinning it for some time !!!!! and lots of stuff played at the last Hip City Anniversary !!!!
  4. Ok one more from me then I am outa here to get that vitamine d thingy going !!!!
  5. C'mon folks enjoy the sun and post some summer soul songs !!!! I'll start off with a nice modern dancer !!!!! So, enjoy the day & make the most of it !!!!
  6. Butch, Ady Croasdell , Andy Dyson, Mick H, Soul Sam, Marc Forrest...... but for me it is often the dj on the night and there are so many names to mention who overall contributed so much to the scene but getting rarely mentioned. Also heard some fantastic younger djs without the access & funds for the rare monsters but still being able to play a great set of tunes within the bounderies of playing original format only !!!! Number 1 for me is Mr. Soulhack (Butch) for all the reasons already mentioned above but after that it is the one who pulls me on the dancefloor at any given time & gives me a smile & sore muscles in the morning !!!!
  7. If you are serious about Northern Soul, this is the place to be!!! Get down, do ya backdrops, spins & slide away on a fantastic wooden dance floor !!! As always, you can expect some fantastic 60's & 70's INDEMAND-CLASSIC-OBSCURE NORTHERN SOUL + CROSSOVER & RnB MONSTERS on ORIGINAL VINYL ONLY!!!! Djs: Matu (FDO) Dave The Stomp (UK/HL) Viphitman Admission 6 íĮ’¢í…¡¬ Start: 22:00
  8. As mentioned above some funky tunes became northern classics in the 70's but for many the first diet of soul was fast and furious. The longer people have stayed on the scene the more changes of directions they have encountered. Dj's and collectors introduced modern crossover rnb popcorn beat ballads and funky flavoured records to the scene over the last 30 / 40 years at different times. People were discussing every slight change from the standart formula since god knows when. I remember feeling challenged and feeling a little weird when all that mid tempo and rnb stuff got played more and more. Later on I started to like it as well and now some of that stuff is deemed as classics and also played at some more commercial events !!!! It's not a question of whether some tunes being good enough, it's a question of time, place and opportunity to intruduce tracks which go away a little from the standard formula. If the time is right for the dance floor then more tracks will be accepted of the choosen genre or style. A lot of tunes were played in the 70's which many people now consider as an embarressment to the soul scene but non the less the time, place and opportunity was there for those tracks to be accepted, enjoyed and played. At the same time some tunes became classics which were musically miles away from the standard northern soul track!!!!! Maybe now is the time to play a little more funky flavoured tunes and in the future some will be considered as classics and some as utter crab.
  9. Nice little funky soul cheapie and even though ceasar's coat may has a few little funky spots on it, the emperor's is still proudly wearing that funny black fist tattoo on his forearm
  10. I think funky soul sounds always had and will have their place on the northern soul scene. The trick for me is to mix it up with traditional northern, crossover, rnb and modern sounds. I am not a great fan of a pure 1 hour stompers or 1 hour funky soul set but to mix it up a little and build a set around the different styles makes me happy and gives the night a nice flow and break in between !!! But what gets a little on me nerves are the punters who passionately hate certain sounds and instead of just having a chat, a ciggie or one or two drinks and enjoying the night, they turn into miserable & abusive farts. Anyway, I love a few funky sounds being played and I think they certainly have their place but more traditional northern sounds should always be the main focus of the music policy!!! Sometimes a night drifts towards one or another direction (oldies obscure funky northern crossover rnb modern...) but as long the vibe carries it through nicely it's all good !!! Ah well 3 tunes that flow my boat....
  11. Records from the USA are coming very very very late.... I put a claim on two days before the dead line waited another few weeks before the dead line for lost items... then it got resolved ..... and at the same day the record arrived (8 weeks) and I had to sent the money back to the seller..... bloody nightmare for everyone at the moment !!!!!!
  12. What I find interresting is that whether someone has been into soul for 10 or 40 years, the people which do not give a flying monkey about original format being played at nighters are mainly the ones coming back after a long break. (just an observation) The ones that stayed at least prefer or even advocate the orignal values of the scene. What I find great is that in Europe after ovo was seen as disirable but not a must in the early 80's it is now becoming more or less the norm !!! Even in Mexico and other countries at least people desire to play ovo instead of continuously ridicule the ovo policy Keep on dancing
  13. stop remixing & bootlegging my words jazzy ....original format for any style of music appreciation society for some ...don't give a flying monkey supporters club for others.... I hope in years to come I can still ....eat cheddar made in Sommerset, drive a german car made in Germany, have a bottle of champagne from france ..... go to a gallery and admire real works of art ... and even listen to a jazz or modern dj still caring about the original format and not being a lazy old fart
  14. Ohhh dear ...I am getting sooo bored of the constant hype of the past and it's personalities!!! I was never star struck and although respect were respect is due I rather hear a nobody play a great diverse cheap original format set then somebody play blalalalala...and living of his past !!!! Each to their own but as for art everyone can have a lovely print of picasso or a local artist displayed at home but it would be rather odd to have a cheap copy at a gallery
