Good God i hope not. The two that Payo did were ok ish(well maybe the 1st one) but to be fair it's now a nite club, now looks nothing like it did inside like back in the day with Mary and Colin at the helm, would hate it to become another Wigan Casino laughing stock. I have great memories of the place and would like to keep them that way,Rick Scott
  4. Hi ALL, Had a pink copy i played at the Cleethorpes Pier All Niters, it never went massive for me and i ended up selling it with a bunch of other unwanted records to J Manship at an early Yarmouth Weekender,it had slight damp/water dammage to label and pretty sure John auctioned it off, don't know what he got for it though, strange thing was how quickly it was booted befor it was given a chance to make the big time, somebody jumped the gun a bit on that one, still a great record, quirky in it's own way and probably stands a better chance now than back then, Rick
  5. Making new music would be more interesting, why the interest in recycling old tracks all the time, and not always doing the old tracks justice, the art of creativity is a dying artform, Just like making unreleased tracks available can be positive but SOME should be left unreleased as they were unreleased for a reason, they jus weren't good enough, and in most cases not the finished article,
  6. Just what the Doctor ordered, Loving this. Can't wait to get my hands on a copy to spin this out in both camps, Well done every one involved in getting this put out.
  7. Love this to bits and always in my Cleethorpes Box, Massive for me at Pier/Winter Gardens As was for Colin and Ian at the Mecca. Bernice has a Beautiful voice which takes this tune to a different level, often slip this into my Modern sets, also have to say when you listen to it now it makes you realise how different this record must have sounded on first hearing at the time but you have to admit it is CLASS shear CLASS, Wonderful
  8. Hi Pete, have the jenny and the Jewels and the Richie brown on the first issues as stated would like to see a scan of the vinyl copy numbered 5099. mine is syrene numbered th-255 which is the reissue, as love to know for sure if uptight was on the other side of the Val Palmer orig. Seems strange that uptight originaly on hit and Val Palmer not?
  9. Thanks for that, it does answer the question, Always assumed it was on hit records as Richie Browns Uptight issued on HIT prior to BIG HIT. Strange how your memmory works but it was over 30 years ago, So i now need to find one and find out how much it goes for these days, Should have rung Sam up as haven't spoke to him since last year, anyway thanks for that, now i know My copy is styrene complete with crack
  10. i'm sure the original is on hit records and not twin hits, twin hits reissues turned up after the hit label release went big
  11. Go to MUSICSTACK Lee, search in LABEL Type in HIT and see what comes up
  12. Richie Brown - Uptight c/w Jalopy five - California Dreaming (HIT RECORDS) RECORD NUMBER 240 PLEASE NOTE RECORD LABEL IS NOT TWIN HITS This label has Nashville matrix in run out grove. label is black with silver writing. Val Palmer came out on tha Hit Label too originaly, the TWIN HITS LABEL looks to be re-issues of the Hit label singles, I'm sure Mr. Manship will have some info on this one, looks like a good subject for a thred Lee
  13. First heard this played at The Cleethorpes Pier (Played by Sam) as far as i can remember. and was pressed up on twin hits with Richie brown - uptight on reverse side, I have never had a proper copy since as i bought the re-press in the mid 70's, Richie Brown came out in it's own right on HIT records, so what was on th other side of the first issue of Val Palmer on HIT records and has it ever come up for sale? I wonder who has the copy played at the Pier?........Rick
  14. Was massive at Ceethorpes Pier/Winter Gardens and from memmory sure it was booted Regards Rick
  15. Yes you could be right Steve as i never was "Smarter Than The Average Bear"
  16. There was a "Yogie Bear Scooter Club" late 50's/early 60's maybe connected maybe not?

I Bought the original James Bynum CD off Poke some years ago, and sold it to Chris Dalton just a few years back which i regret, we all do foolish things in our lifetime, that was just one of mine

Just played through tracks on KENT CD on Simply Soul site and it states that Try Something New and It's No Mistake (amongst others) were Unreleased, Is That True as i have an issue U S Issue copy ON CROSS-OVER 980, Or are the versions on the CD different recordings to 7" ? Not read any sleeve notes on it, any one have a copy shed some light Please, Ta Much
  20. Just seen this and can't get my head round it, been reduced to tears, have'nt seen Gary for a while now but have fond memmories of the times i have spent with him over the years from the Cleethorpes days and behind the decks at the Canal Tavern (both Simply Soul and Rods Voices) and the Hull venues and countless other Soul Nites we played at, it's a sad sad day for soul music because he contributed so much to it and was a lovely person with it, my thoughts go out to you Piddy and all the Family/Friends that are countless, R.I.P. Gary "Loved And Missed By All Who Met You" Rick
  21. All these years and didn't know that, over to you then Ian
  22. Rod Dearlove who is on here may be able to help you with your answers but i believe the full lp was never made available and the copy Rod found and may still own was one side of the album as you rightly say was a monarch lp test pressing, the test press may have included "I AIN'T PLAYIN'" "I'VE BEEN THINKING" Don't think the other side of the lp test press ever showed up and i do know that Rod put a hell of a lot of effort into trying to locate Sy Hightower.
  23. Hi Dave, defo not me that bought come on train for that price, i think it was maybe John Manship or John Vincent who paid that money for it then a couple of weeks later a few original copies turned up in small numbers,my brain cells not much better it has to be said lol, yea, great memories of fabulous nites chattiing with the likes of Dave Godin who loved "Cleethorpes" and had the utmost respect for Mary for what she achieved and for the DJ's for their taste in music, Mary and Colin, the Girls in the kiosk,The DJs and the Fans, "One Big Happy Family"
  24. Got mine off John on one of my record buying visits at "Soul Bowl" So i would think Pier All Niter was first place of play,Great record even now, Always classed as weird but wonderful back then, Remember "Poke" dropping "Stop this merry go round" By "Black Haze Express" now that caused a stir, what a weird and wonderful record that is, written by Sam Dees if my memmory serves me right, and he nearly lost his job for playing it lol, still class, love it, Rick
