Butch Williams Of The Heartbreakers. New Vinyl Release
Rick Scott replied to Dave Thorley's topic in All About the SOUL
Hi Dave, Would love one of these too please...................Quality -
Yes, that helps a lot with the Bandit and Chosen Few Record label issues, just wish now i'd kept my Twinight copy. Seems as you say same recordings would have been used on the above as with the E.S.Cozy straight re-release. The Winner record label issue seems to be the only one that is a different more funky version release (A different recording altogether) Thankyou, Rick
-
Thanks guys, only now another release comes into the puzzle, what order of release and dates if possible on all other releases of title still required, and what recording was used on the chosen few label issue, is it one of the above or a different recording alltogether? As they say, 'The plot thickens' Rick

MAYBE BEEN DISCUSED ON HERE BEFORE, NOT SURE BUT HERE GOES. HAVING MANY YEARS AGO SELLING MY TWINIGHT ISSUE WHEN TOLD BANDIT ISSUE WAS THE FIRST AND ORIGINAL ISSUE (WHICH I BOUGHT) WHAT ORDER OF ISSUE ARE THE SINGLES ? EVERY COLLECTOR I HAVE SPOKEN TO HAS A DIFFERENT OPINION AS THE WINNER COPY IS THE ONLY ONE WITH A DATE ON (1970) ELVIN SPENCER- LIFT THIS HURT (WINNER) 1970 CHOSEN FEW - LIFT THIS HURT (BANDIT) ? ELVIN SPENCER - LIFT THIS HURT (TWINIGHT) ? ELVIN SPENCER - LIFT THIS HURT ( E.S.COSY RE-ISSUE) OF COURSE THE LAST ISSUE. ALSO WENT ON TO YOUTUBE AND PLAYED TWO SOUND BITES THAT WERE SUPPOSED TO BE THE WINNER RECORDING ONE SOUNDING A BIT MORE FUNKY AND THE OTHER THE SAME AS THE TWINIGHT RECORDING SO ASSUME WINNER ISSUE MORE FUNKY VERSION ? ALSO I WONDER WHY THE NAME CHANGE ELVIN SPENCER/CHOSEN FEW? THANKS FOR LOOKING AND HOPEFULY GIVING YOUR VIEWS. Rick

Hi Ivor, long time my friend, (Canal Tavern) Thanks for the info on the re-issue, Explains why it sounds so different, looks like i'm searching for the 7" orig as well as the 12", Will check out "how can you say it" if it is on youtube, sounds interesting, All The Best Rick.

Hi Martyn, Got to say what you listed as far as i can see are oldies, the problem here is what the person(s) attending the venue(s) know about the music we play, more and more i hear the same problem raising its ugly head, unless you are playing tracks that are over played or that they have heard same old same old a million times over, this is what you are going to be up against, people who have not got a clue, sad but true.

Anyone else on here bought this, 'Love Is A Hurtin' Thing' (Luv N' Haight) Bought this as the original 12" is so elusive, arrived today (Sat) and on first play thought there was something wrong with my sound system or maybe i needed to clear my ears, it is hard to describe how it sounds, it has been edited down to a 7" version and to these ears sounds strange, I have played the original 12" on youtube and it sounds a so much a cleaner version, would like comments please from anyone else who HAS purchased one of these to see if it is just me, Love the 12" track to bits by the way but............................

Never liked this but hey horses for courses, Always prefered their "The Walk Will Do You Good" which i gave many spin at the Cleethores Dayers and Niters and Beyond, Happy Days Indeed

I have a first copy (nude) of the mail must get through, Anyone know the value of this version of the album please, Rick

Hi Ian, Cee Lo Green mix is fab which we give lots of spins at our Modern Nites at Heslem Park Rugby Club in Scunthorpe (next one this Friday 13th March), Fellow DJ Dicko spins the St Topez version now and again And i may play Page There on Friday, Just for the record there IS a better sound bite of Page Three version on You Tube the one on here i think has been linked from Discogs which isn't very good sound quality at all, not a classic record by any means but nice to pick the original version of the song cheap regardless of it's background and it is still working for me. Any way Ian hope you are well, we go back a long long way Rick Update... Did play it as my last tune and a full dance floor response and people wanting info about it in order to purchase a copy so a good result for a few sellers and that is what it is all about

One of my plays from the 70's at the Cleethorpes Winter Gardens my Girls Three C/U which was released in 1977 now turns out to be the original version of the St. Tropez L.P. Only track (1978) that got plays on the Rare Groove/Jazz Funk Scene then recently sampled by various artists on the R&B Scene and had spins on the Northern/Modern Scene. Last year (Jan 2014) the St. Tropez version (Hold On To Love) was edited down th a 7" version and released with Al Foster Band - Nite Of The Wolf on the other side (Mellow Mellow Right On Records), there are 3 copies of this edit for sale on the internet for £100 - £17.97 and £19.91 there was one for £40 but that has now gone which seems a lot for a re-edit from last year but it must be now deleted and in demand. The reason why i mention this is there is a lot of Northern/Modern interest of the St. Tropez track (which as i say turns out NOT to be the original version) hence the re-edit version release. So, if you want or need a copy of The "Original Version" now is a good time to grab one cheap as chips. Ther are 22 copies up on Discogs from 1 euro to£4.99, this track may not be for you but it is doing it for me all over again (uncovered) and it is up on you tube so you can have a listen and make your own mind up, But don't sleep on it, look what happed with Mark Williams House For Sale, when that was found to be another version of Millie Jackson, it was on the internet cheap and went fast and try finding one now. so search for PAGE THREE - HOLD ON TO LOVE (WARNER BROTHERS) 7" Good Luck and Enjoy if this is your Cup Of Tea Rick

If someone gave this to me to play (as i certainly would not pay for one) i would have to cover it up.....................................................................................................With a ton of hardcore and quick set concrete, yea i think that would do it
-
Well i never, This must be as ellusive as the Instrumental of the Fuller Bothers "Times a'wasting" that somebody claimed to have heard played out looking foreward to hearing this, well done Ady

Hi Ian, Hope you are well, i had a feeling you would be a "Pickers" Fan as me like you love looking through "other peoples junk" our treasure, never sadly made it to the States, Rick
-
Anyone been following this show on the Dave Channel (the last new episodes just finnished) although lots of repeats. Old guy on there been collecting stuff from front yard and garage sales for over 30 years and nobody had been through the stuff untill the Pickers knocked on his door, he had thousand upon thosands of albums and 7" singles all neatly stacked in one part of the many barnes full of collectables which made my eys pop, the pickers took a quick look and said naa don't know anything about records and continued to look round all his out buildings, not sure whether they were in Miami at the time, spoted an Imperial 7 " single on top of one pile of singles, oh just to be there eh?...Rick
-
Hi Michael, Yes it did get plays back in the day (at least i used to spin it) was a big Sly and Family Stone fan and still love a lot of their stuff, some is a bit too funky for some, rememember droping this in an oldies set ( was at Cleethorpes Pier All Niter or maybe the Winter Gardens) my memories not so good these day and had to laugh when Soul Sam came dashing up to the decks (he was a bit more agile in those days) and asked "what's this?" as the French Fries - Dance Ala Music was a massive spin for him at the time.....Happy Days!!!

Copper And Brass On The Film American Hustle
Rick Scott replied to Wiganer1's topic in All About the SOUL
Copper and Brass was a big spin for me at the Cleethorpes Pier All Niters and a dance floor favourite, always thought this was the best version and there are 3 or 4, still spin it in my oldies sets and sits nicely with Spiral Staircase More today Than Yesterday i think. -
Boght this as a new release from Juno, always thought the female vocalist was well off key
-
Thanks for all your help guys, brilliant as usual,Pete what format is the isleys inst on please?
-
Thanks for those kind words Sean, and the help on the stanky Record, Have the single and always wondered which side year wise it lent on, sounds late 60s but with that raw funky edge, not everyones cup of tea i know but i like it. The Isley brothers is a difficult one as not credited as an instrumental so will be trial and error with that one, (unless someone on here has or has had one) Hope to catch up with you one day real soon Sean, always had the utmost respect for you too, Good luck and health in 2015 Rick
