Badge query - Have you seen one before?
Rick Scott replied to Northern Soul Uk's topic in All About the SOUL
Interesting one this, i remember having a conversation about the badge in question way back in the mid seventies when the 7" single was given away given away at the first Anniversary, I think Mary ordered the metal badges and fitted the centre piece because i obtained some of the spare paper badges either on a roll or on sheets that you peeled off and put in the metal badge, And Yes the white badge was one of Mary's too, Mary must have had some of the other white badges left over and utilised those to make the Anniversary ones and save a bit of money at the time (although some one could have had a white badge and put an anniversary sticker over it) I still have the 2 official patches and membership card and both the red and the white metal badge that you see on the front cover of the "Cleethorpes Story" CD/LP that i compiled for Goldmine Records back in the 90's as those are mine, Did you get your badge at the Pier Anniversary or from someone else at a later date, Anyway what i shall do is give mary a ring and have a chat with her and i am sure she will be able to clarify this for you. Cheers for now, Rick. -
If you have ever been through a divorce or broken up from a loved one you may well shed a tear or two. Modern Soul From One Of The Greatest Singer/Song Writers Ever, What Can I say, NOTHING Coz the record Speaks for Its Self mmm mmm mmm

Hi everyone, here is Another one from The "Cleethorpes Winter Gardens" And Maybe a spin or two at the "Pier" One i bought off a couple of lads from Lincoln who's mum if my memory serves me right found it in a local book shop she worked in, "The Walk Will Do You Good" by The Rainbow People A nice PYE Acetate which i think i paid £8 for, Very rare and hard to come by, Used to spin this alongside things like "You've Been Cheating" The AppleJacks (CBS Demo) Even Nev Wherry was well impressed,Enjoy, Rick

Then there was this, a couple of years or so after Terry, Different strokes for different folks Eh? Nice.

Morning John. Hope you are enjoying your Bank Holliday and thanks for the JB ( The Man ) TUNE, so staying in that Theme an old spin of mine ( Cleethorpes, What Else? ) From 1975 from the one and only Dennis Coffey, Taken from the Westbound LP "Finger licking' Good". Crank up the volume And Enjoy!

Here is a strange one i have had since the very late 60's, My Darling - Instrumental, often wondered if there was a vocal to this? This is the only video i could find so apologies for the poor sound quality on it, one of those that sounds great out on a good sound system, I love records with vibes on Them, Nice. This is on the "B" side of "Please let me help you" by Diane Lewis on Love Records and is The Funk Brothers although they are uncredited. Cheap as chips too.
-
Hi Everyone , i hope all is well, here we have a tune i played back in '85 as a new release and deserves a lot more attention than it got back in the day. there are plenty of these about and cheap as chips so go on, treat yourself you know you want to, anyway crank up the volume and enjoy! Corky Hale - I Am The One

Yea, saw the one at £661 on Popsike, totally missed seeing the one up on Ebay, as said, not one easy to come by and still being chased by collectors and DJs alike, and a record that always evokes fond memories.

Chatting with Swifty made me want to put another couple of tracks up outa my Cleethorpes Pier/Wintergardens Box so here we have two on the bounce from The Crown Heights Affair From 1976 and 1980, As usual enjoy
-
"Memories" One thing that can't be taken away from us, and they were always GREAT ONES!
-
Nice one Swifty, Were you there the nite Dave Godin was there ? He spent most of his time sat with Mary Chapman talking "Soul" (What else?) telling her how much he loved The Cleethorpes Sound because it was so Diverse, He was a very interesting man to chat to and very knowlageable and always had time for you if you wanted to talk about the music he was obviously so passionate about, Happy Days\Nites PS i still have the Ideals And The Mighty Lovers,

Used to have a copy of this classic on the "Pandora" Record Label, Soul Sam used to play it at Cleethorpes Pier and liked that version so made a point of locating one but wasn't easy, mix is noticeably different, bit more bass and balls to it, In the end it went to Manship with a load of other stuff when thinning out to buy other things to play so one i don't own anymore, Be interesting to know how many of these are about but certainly doesn't come up for sale these days.

Bit of Modern Soul Gospel from me today which has had loads of spins out of me since way back in 1995 and still gets an outing now and again and the sort of thing i spin often at home just love it, Every Home Should Have One, Yes Indeed! The Island Inspirational All - Stars - Don't Give Up - Enjoy, Rick

Well, another forgotten Oldie, this time from Ernie Lucas who will be familiar to most of you as Arin Demain. This is the flip to the 45rpm 'Love Thief' (Okeh) "What Would I Do Without You" and is a rather catchy little number that deserves more plays than it received over the years, as usual, Enjoy ! Rick
-
When i played this at the Cleethorpes PierAll Niters for me it was always the Instrumental version because i love the way the instrumental version builds until the Girls come in with that rather catchy chorus towards the end, typical Cleggy Record and still love it and play it today, but the vocal did get spins too but as i say, horses for courses and you have to remember insrumentals were very popular at that time. Evening Pete, So pleased you like it, You know i never even thought about it, That could be him? that is a very recent video of him so not very likely to be his dad so maybe another family member, mmmmmm Food for thought as they say

Well hope you guys had a great weekend. Out of my 80s box for a change today and i have chosen Jim Manns version of "everybody Likes it" I Prefer the vocals on this over the Norman Brown 7" which gets played more often probably because it is more common than the Jim Mann Version on U. S. Black Giant 12" (1980) Which is so hard on an orig. Though there are 2nd Issues ?? out there. Hope you like this version, As usual, ENJOY Rick

only just seen this topic and i would too be interested in seeing a repeat if there is one and would also like to know if it was of interest to soul-source members etc. Cheers, Rick

Hi Martyn, Nice it is getting some recognition as not the most obvious of tunes (either side) and did struggle with it playing it to back in the day but over the years tastes and acceptance of styles do change so pleased i am not on my own with it, Don't know much about them either do you? I believe when i found it it was either a junk shop find or a car boot sale, Happy Days Mine is a Black Issue.

Next up back to basic proper traditional soul from 1970 Mr. George Byrd, giving the Pier Faithful a good Work Out and Then Some, The other side pretty damn good too and got many a spin (That Being - I'm Available ) which was the PLUG SIDE, But here we have the flip side the Wonderful "You better tell her So!) And as we say, Crank Up The Volume and Enjoy, Rick
