  1. The expanded version of what I said, and meant, exactly.
  2. Of all the gigs I did last year playing mainly new releases on the modern scene, the most feedback on any one track I got was when I played Average White Band 'Queen Of My Soul', massive pop record at the time - I think that was the catalyst for me waking up as far as the music is concerned and made me realise how blinkered I'd become because of the scene and DJ'ing and the like. All cured now, thankfully.
  3. You stop listening once you start DJ'ing, that's something else I sadly only released not that long ago.
  4. Yep, been there, done all that, worn the T-shirt - it's a scene curse I'm afraid, but just like you Peter, I finally came to realise just how great the majority of the tunes many of us look down our noses at because of scene involvement, actually are. Better late than never eh?
  5. Approximately 394 threads on the same subject ago, Chalky.
  6. A somewhat incorrect use of tense there Chalky lad!!
  7. It's not but that's never mattered with records like this in the past!
  8. Couldn't tell you Ray, sorry, but as I say, it's popular so no doubt somebody on here will be able to give you more info on it.
  9. It's one of those isn't it, personally I think it's horrible pile of pop dance garbage, but it's popular track for many on the northern soul scene, so the value, as with everything of this nature, is whatever anyone is willing to pay for it - I've no doubt if anyone was selling one they try and prize around £70 out of people for it, probably more. Roger
  10. Not being technically minded, out of interest, would cramming more tracks into the 7 inch format affect the sound quality in any way? Roger
  11. I know mate, but it's interesting to see a different take on it. Being a graphics bod, it's great to see those old ads as well, always a source of inspiration for me, especially the typography they used to use. Roger
  12. In all my years of collecting I've never heard of these. Nice one mate, interesting stuff. Roger
  13. For my money, Darrow Fletcher's version of 'Rising' is the best of the bunch, it's that voice that takes the song to another level, awesome.
  14. Anyone for a laptop dancing club?
  15. Anything you can swing yer pants to, tunes like this do it for me every time.
  16. When you stop DJ'ing
  17. Just give it a shout on my Facebook page. Every little helps and all that. Roger
  18. The A-side is great, I played that in my Solar Radio show back in March 2011 when the CD was first released: https://soulsorts.blogspot.co.uk/2011_03_01_archive.html Top 'boogie' tune, love it. Roger
  19. There isn't one single promoter who puts on an event 'for the greater good of the scene', it's ALL done for their own ends, 'ovo' or otherwise. Get real. Roger
  20. Brilliant, it was odds-on that that would be your ultimate answer to all those reasoned replies . If I was to write a play about all that's ridiculous about the northern soul scene, you would be my number one inspiration for the lead character, good work.
  21. It's like calling everyone south of Watford a 'cockney'.
  22. The term 'Bootleg' when used in relation to vinyl 45rpm records means that the said item is a product of the practice of counterfeiting. Any record that is released legally, regardless of it not being the first time of release, is not a counterfeit, therefore it is not a bootleg. If you prefer to play first issues, fair enough, but that doesn't make every reissue a 'boot', that's somewhat of an extreme view in my opinion. Cheers Mr. Logic
  23. Dee Dee Warwick's up there for me, especially this: Awesome.
  24. Wow, shocked and saddened by that news, he was a top man, gone far too young, very very sad indeed, my thoughts go out to his family and close friends. Roger
