Bidding Has Begun On Frank Wilson
Roger Williams replied to Paul Byford 1's topic in All About the SOUL
I've made up a one-off T-shirt with 'I Won Frank Wilson' on it which I'm willing to let go for £14,999. -
I'm sure that's the same photo used on the Fan The Flame twelve I've got? Brings back great memories from a great time.

The Worlds Largest Us Record Collection For Sale
Roger Williams replied to a topic in All About the SOUL
I thought that was the best bit!! Quality. -
Agreed on all counts Baz, had (and still having at one of them) superb nights at them all. Sorry we can't be there this coming Friday mate, we're treating ourselves to a posh hotel for our birthday, with the added bonus of a soul event tagged on.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with having respect for the scene as you see it, or upholding your own beliefs in terms of collecting and DJ'ing with original records, nothing in the slightest. Where the snobbery comes in is from those who judge, look down their nose at, and talk down to others for not having the same values as them and say that people shouldn't be doing this and that because it doesn't fit in their own views or way of doing things. There's also nothing wrong with having passion and enthusiasm, most people on any scene have it some way or another, but I've seen plenty of examples in this thread and threads like it, where people have used their 'passion' in a vain attempt to hide their ignorance, obnoxious arrogance and lack of basic human respect for others. That's how I see it anyway.

Hideous shouty rubbish.

Have you got a local B&Q near where you live?
-
Just getting it in before Epic did.
-
Well it is 'sole' music after all . . . .
-
I'm just glad I'm unaffected by these daft hangups that afflict so many of you lads. See you at Morecambe in May for a few beers fella.
-
That's a tad ironic, an OVO exponent telling somebody to look beyond the end of their nose!!
-
When in truth, the real twats are the twats calling others twats.

And I've got nothing but good memories of working for Goldmine on the designs, it was work I really enjoyed doing during a very good period for all concerned. Even though it's a long time ago, it's still sad to see it go. Roger

Melinda Doolittle Covers Shirley Edwards
Roger Williams replied to Mike's topic in All About the SOUL
Oh I dunno Jaco, America's a big ole country and I'm sure there are one or two people dotted around the place with a knowledge of old soul music! Really good to see Melinda Doolittle being discussed on here, she's the real deal for me and I couldn't have been more pleased to see someone who, aside from Latoya London, has been my favourite American Idol contestant, release a genuine soul album instead of a crappy r&b load of pop shite as so many of the others have done. Posted this on EMS a few times since it was first broadcast, it still blows me away every single time: "> -
Of course it is, but as long as the forum remains an open forum for non-members (or a banned member in this case) to read, there isn't much I can do about it Steve.
-
Still dipping my toes in every now and again Steve. Problem is, too often my posts on here are followed by a silly private email which I can do without, so I don't say too much for my own sanity.
-
I've got an issue of the album on CD on Timeless. Nobody ever believes me when I tell them!! Issue-schmissue, original-schmoriginal, just play good music you fooking ee-juts!!!

Tell that to Ralph Tee who paid money to license it.
-
Format monkeys!!
-
I think if there was ever any one simple definitive statement to be made about it all, the scene, genres, style, format etc. etc., that can't really be argued with, that would be it.
-
Off topic, sorry, but that photo just puts me in mind of the ads you used to see in the wall in the barbers when you were a kid - I wonder how long Russ spent doing his hair before he had that photo taken!
