  1. cant accept, the statement regarding the more discerning , which implies that the majority of people who are into northern soul are unthinking uneducated and ignorant because of their failure to take on what you think they should , ask yourself why do the majority of people on our scene like classic oldies , is it because they only follow certain dj,s or attend certain venues , no its because after all these years its still great music and with all this experience they have chosen what they like and what they want to hear and are happy with it , why listen to second best ,and think that's what most new to the scene find , as for your last statement your obviously not into the scooter scene lol .they make us look like wimps wrt arguments within their scene ,
  2. I gotta agree with ya , have been to 2 soul nights this w/end on opposite sides of the pennines , both playing an eclectic mix of music both reasonably well attended and it was the classic oldies that got them on the floor and the rare /modern / disco that cleared it . the attendees were in the main over 50,s and were starting to leave after 11.30 , methinks we are into the swansong of the oldies brigade and unless we start accepting newcomers at all levels then as has been quoted we are all doomed .
  3. well I for one will never get bored with it , its the soundtrack of my life , let those who want to move on do so, but please don't beat me because I like the music I grew up with and love ,
  4. good point Gordon and from what I have seen a lot of the young people are into the mainstream oldies genre and on the odd occasion I have been in the side rooms , modern /rare etc have not seen many young faces . kinda tell you something doesn't it ,
  5. well if that's so we would be up to our necks in The Elgins /Joy Lovejoy type of sounds which always fill the dancefloor . stand back and listen, tribute no more deserves to be played at a northern soul night than does say Eloise or car wash or dare I say black Sabbath . Ive heard the latter played at a soul nite thought to be fair it was a charity nite and the floor was rammed ffs , some people just don't get it,, eh
  6. these are my feeling as well , trouble is there isn't that much new music that cuts the mustard ,consider myself fortunate that I am of an age that when I first came on the scene nobody had heard of northern soul it was just great music to dance to with like minded souls, am sure most people will accept a good record no matter what era/genre it comes from . we were spoilt back then when there was a plethora of great records coming online every week ,
  7. cant agree with this last statement ,a crap record is a crap record no matter how many times it gets played . this is what really does my napper in, who the fook thinks they are god and should decide what we want ,
  8. well it could have a future but we should do more to ensure that , go to soul nites , w/enders and to soul events abroad and they are in the main run and dj,d by fat balding over 50s men who in some cases are well past their sell by dates , we do very little to promote and encourage aspiring enthusiastic young dj,s , and the same can be said for women dj,s . until we open up and ditch the outmoded beliefs in vinyl and the flat earth OVO policies and adopt more up to date machinery to deliver the music then its gunna be a long lingering pathetic death ,
  9. suppose its better than SUPERSHIT OOPS meant SHIP
  10. Would be nice to know if she is still alive and not had an early demise , Surely someone must know her and of her whereabouts .
  11. heres some info gleaned off the tinternet , In the mid-'60s, pre-stardom Barry White produced singer Felice Taylor, whose vocals were reminiscent of Diana Ross, for Bob Keane's R&B label Bronco Records. Taylor's only Billboard-charting single was "It May Be Winter Outside (But in My Heart It's Spring)," reaching number 44 R&B, number 42 pop in early 1967 (her singles did well in the U.K.). Born January 29, 1948, Taylor sang in the Sweets, a trio that included her sisters Norma and Darlene. Signed to Bronco and released on the Mustang label, Taylor's three singles -- "It May Be Winter Outside" b/w "Winter Again," "Under the Influence of Love," and "I Feel Love Coming On" -- were co-written and produced by White. After leaving Bronco, Taylor recorded for Kent ("Captured By Your Love"). Years later, she recorded in the U.K. with Eddy Grant and Derv Gordon of the Equals. In the summer of 1973, White's protegées Love Unlimited recorded Taylor's "It May Be Winter Outside" and "Under the Influence of Love." Taylor's Bronco/Mustang singles "It May Be Winter Outside," "I Feel Love Coming On," and "Under the Influence of Love" are available on Boss Soul: The Genius of Barry White, a 1998 various-artists compilation from Del-Fi Records.
  12. having a trawl through youtube and came across and played my favourite winter tune , It may be winter outside by felice Taylor , this was written by a barry white , is this the same big baz ,we know , also there are mentions of Motown paying off felice because she was a rival to Diana ross . as far as Im concerned felice has a better voice than ross . this has probably been covered before. 13. suppose its because they are collectors /dealers who want to make a few bob , it goes on , on here all the time Cunnie or are you just being sarcastic
  14. kinnell thought it was still going
  15. rarity has no bearing on quality . if someone is prepared to pay silly money for a record that is crap then more fool them.. if you you want to buy records for the sake of their rarity /scarcity without regard to the quality and playability of the music please don't indulge in dick waving and don't impose them on me ,
  16. never heard the tribute /bob Sinclair crap at any of the east midland venues I have been to , its more of a handbaggers thing played at some south Yorkshire venues and first time my angie heard this she said she thought she had been teleported to Chicago rock in Barnsley ffs
  17. the sound that makes me cringe and head for a fag is :- millie jacksons house for sale ,, its a miserable dirge and the house as been for sale that long it probably wants condemning
  18. I think the people who have done most to shape our scene are the artists , musicians and records producers , without them there would be no scene .
  19. the 80s are long gone its a different time now and if you had goosed me I would probably have twatted you then ,
  20. most of us are abit older and wiser than we were in the 70s and 80s . as I have said there are a plethora of venues about ,some will say too many with a dwindling and aging set of punters , my post was aimed at promoters and dj,s. realise its impossible at some of the bigger venues but I always like to be made and feel welcome , this is one of the plus points when attending any venue and if I don't feel welcome then I don't return simples , am no shrinking violet and will and do talk to anyone and we are always meeting new people and making friends love it when I go to the north notts venues like the Grosvenor , blackhearts and Kingsway because we are always made to feel welcome , sorry I cant say this about some venues where we have been ignored to the point of being uncomfortable . and shudder to think what I would feel if I were new to the scene ,
  21. piss poor attitude that kev so people who want to go to different venues driving for miles expecting to have an enjoyable night, listen to good music and be made to feel welcome , should just pay their money put up and shut up, .
  22. so that's it then we should all go out sip our bottles of water , and listen and dance to the music you there at the back , no talking ,,
  23. matt am not saying venues should play anything out of what they would normally play but maybe if one of the organisers had come over and spoke to them they could have been accommodated , I talked to them myself and they were not ignorant wrt northern soul and motown and some motown was played ,,
