have just spent the week in liverpool its a northern soul desert brill if you like the beatles hard to understand really as the heartland of northern soul imho is centered along the m62 corridor and with 1 or 2 notable exceptions the rest of the country just dont get it liverpool you would have thought would be a typical n/soul town somebody prove me wrong ,am back there next week please

obviously only go back to local venues worth supporting the crap ones fall by the wayside fortunately we have a choice of decent local venues almost every w/end and sometimes its a difficult decision to miss these to go further afield. we travel to these events to check them out and will re visit if ok usually the names of the dj,s is an irrelevance in deciding to revisit ITS THE MUSIC WHAT COUNTS

do a lot of local venues and love them ,its the comfort zone thing. lateley tho done a bit of travelling with differing results but my faith with the scene as been somewhat restored due to a resurgence of the oldies and a lessening of the disco/modern genre at the venues attended as for big name dj,s ..with certain big names would close the window if they were playin ont front lawn

dont matter to me as to which room people choose to spend their time ,my point is why do some people have to say they didnt do the main room . I go to many events and very rarely go in the modern/rare /underplayed room but if I post a comment on here about a venue ,it wouldnt enter my head to say I didnt go in the alternative room ; this may seem like nitpicking ,each to their own is what I believe, as have said on here before,but it seems its no longer cool to do the main room IMHO and those that do are the great unwashed

well why the aside about didnt do the main room bit from a number of peeps in events lookback snobbery or wot ?

why is it that when reading the posts on events lookbacks and there are two rooms a classic/ oldies main room and a rare/modern room a lot of people will praise the event with an aside that they didnt care for the main room usually the classic /oldies room and spent most of their time in the other room? is it no longer cool to do the main room?

It's all about that moment when you're sat there at a Christening/Wedding/Auntie's 100th Birthday Bash, etc, etc, when the damned DJ puts it on the decks. Auntie taps you on the shoulder and says, "Hey up love, are you not showing us your dancing? It's that Northern Soul you like."

am already a member of 3 clubs, but like the idea of an association of likeminded soulfull scooterists who could get together with their scoots at w/enders and do a bit of riding and maybe form a club with a suitable logo , any ideas

go to a number of scooter do,s and this year will be at scarbro at easter and isle of wight august bank holiday many of these have northern soul events and a large number of scooterists are into the music with some decent dj.s on the scene maybe we should form a soul source scooter club SSSC what do you reckon

got to agree mate ,grimethorpe miners welfare closed last week ,was the home of the famous colliery band ..had a large concert room and we had several charity soul nights there and raised a lot of money for charity.. its a crying shame the football and cricket fields will go as well as the bowling greeens. this place used to be the heart of the community, the st johns ambulance brigade will lose there practice rooms also , if I were a bit younger I would deffo be considering emigrating this country has nothing to offer working class people and very little in the way of prospects for our young people

plan to take my scoot to brid w/ender in june and skeggy grovsner w.ender in september a few of mates doing same so if your going to anyone of these an you have a scoot bring it along and we can sort something out in the way of a rideout

got to get this down ,a few years ago at the butlins w/ender we took a mate who wasnt into the soul but found it that w/end and I was fed up with him coming off the dancefloor and askin what the record was called an by whom ,on the sunday afternoon he was buggin me to tell him wot a certain record was so he could go an ask the dj to play it . this is the conversation and what happened. bri come on you know it was an instrumental played it last nite summat tomatoes and I remember and tell him an he writes down tinned tomatoes by cirio goes to the dj ian gee asks him an shoves note in his hand mate looks perplexed as he comes back ,am tryin to keep a straight face and this is what he says come to a northern w/end everybodies really friendly still dont know what ians reply was but think it ended in off
