  3. thanks for the dressing down rich ,much appreciated, and have to agree with all you have said , but when reading this topic ,what really pisses me off are comments like the one below , Yes, the film looks crap, i agree i don't want to see a load of divs walking around in wanabe NS garb, bad enough round here with fake people who wear fake clothes to their fake clubs comments like this and there are many , really boil my piss who decides what the genuine article is, criticism is fine by me , but not this spitefull rant. I didnt say that no-one has right to make comment but surely to comment unfavorably on something they havent seen or on second or third hand info is not being fair imho, cheers barney hf
  4. thanks for the responce to my pm mike would just like to say in my cackhanded way ,that in fairness one is presumed innocent untill found guilty by their peers, and to pre judge something before it has been seen, seems a bit distastefull to me. cheers b
  5. ok I,ve trawled through the thread and its bit vague wrt the facts yes some people have seen a preview of the film but have not given a substantial review of what they saw, in any case its wasnt the final version. that thread just reinforces my previous comments its seems some people on here just want to shoot the breeze and pass comment on their percieved view of the film ,and as I said acres and acres of recieved wisdom (twaddle to me) as been spouted by the great and the good, this is not an act of parliament or some high court judgement, or some new goverment policy, which may merit serious debate , its about a film good or bad (we shall see) which happens to be about some youths in the 1970s and their exploits based around northern soul. so please lets not speculate , watch when it comes out or dont watch . then lets have a chinwag and a chinstroke about it on here. ps for all you aspiring film writers , producers, directors, playwrights and film critics/reviewers on here dont give up yer day jobs
  6. Turning Your Heart Beat Up! Hollywood Comes To STOKE!! in this thread?
  7. ok so that clears that up then so as far as we know ,no-one ,up to the present ,who has seen the film, as a finished article in its entirity, has had the temerity to come on here, and tell us ,the custodans and keepers of the faith about it, I am going to see my mp about this , we ought to send in the troops
  8. so you have seen this film then , enlighten the great unwashed masses then please
  9. tell me if I am wrong; but have any of you lot on here seen this film yet, I think not. so while you knowledgable sages are star gazing and predicting the future , give us 6 numbers for saturdays lottery, its a film ffs, and for all the acres of twaddle on here and quotes from the lancet etc it might just might be worth watching, and while your breast beating and hair pulling on here, I am keeping an eye on the vatican webcam ,lookin for white smoke because theres been enough pontificating on here to create at least a dozen new popes
  10. will give you a quote from a book I read recently :psychologists will probably tell you that youth movements develop as a means of allowing individuals to feel a sense of belongingand power, that large numbers of likeminded people automatically create . I wouldnt dare to delve into this type of analysis or to insult all those highly educated minds that have a valid reason for everything . all I can say definitely, is that the northern soul scene was good for me and also extremely good to me . for the amount of time and energy I put into it, the northern soul movement paid me back twice over in satisfaction, achievments, friendships and highs; not a direct quote but have substituted scooterboy for northern soul. from the book , time trouble and money, about the scootering scene from the 70s up to present by mark brough, we arent the only special ones there are others out there who also think they are unique
  11. same old same old why do some people on here think that their take on todays scene is the one and only take and everyone else is either wrong, deranged or sheepfodder; why do so many on here think we are an elite cadre and no other genre of music past or present is anywhere near as good, and are even condescending and patronising towards fellow members on here. surely one,s take on the music is a personnal thing within this wide spectrum of our music and as such ones opinions should be respected for what it is, ie, as good as anybody elses. we are not talkin about life and death here its just a form of entertainment and if people cant see that then god help us.. unless you come on here with an agenda ie,to promote youself , a venue or event or even a piece of music or record and thats where the fun starts , the claws come out and integrity and good faith go out of the window ktf b
  12. there as been a lot of venom and bile generated in this thread which was originally about someone giving northern soul dancing lessons , but some sad carrying the torch fookwits on here will have a go at anyone and anything, whats the fook going on why are some folk so bitter and twisted on here surely its about the music and dancin whatever else one does is nobody elses godammed buisness
  13. this was well covered in a previous thread try and find it on here
  14. am surprised at the lack of interest shown for what on the face of it is an easily answered queston ... the reason why I voted for the present time (now) is simple. I am now in a position where I am personally and financially secure and no longer work shifts or w/ends , also my partner is into the scene and we are able to travel to any venue we choose to go to we also have loads of like minded friends and are able to go to events w/enders and soul in the sun where we have met many people from all over the country who we now consider friends and look forward to friday and saturday soul nights every week at many venues and its continual party time it couldnt get better for me
  15. the reason why I go to oldies nights and prefer them is easily answered for me , the classic oldies are the bedrock of the scene , the sounds upon which I used to and still dance to , over the years and it has been a long time the music has altered and there have been many good additions from the 70s ,80, up to the present, but essentially they are that , great sounds will always shine, trouble is they (to me ) are getting fewer and fewer, never the less I still am surprised by some new or recycled tunes which make me look up and want to get on the dancefloor, unfortunately (again to me) some djs want to play a surfeit of rare, underplayed or modern sounds proclaiming these to be the latest monster awesome sound because it was played at such and such a venue, or by so and so dj, or it costs the equivalent of the uks national debt, well for me if its no good its no good and dont give a flying fook about where or who plays it or how much it cost, most punters are very discerning especially about the brand (northern soul) and wont easily accept ,me included, inferior material its got to hit the mark or it will not go down. yes have got to admit at times it does get a bit irksome and there are plenty of sounds that are always played that really should be given the boot but hey hoe a lot of folk still like them and they fill the floor unlike some of the above mentioned tumbleweed tunes. to me a good dj should be able to keep the floor going by playing a good mix of tracks of differing, styles and tempos, slipping in the odd new or not often played sound seamlessly and if it moves the floor then try some more but keep watching the floor, the scene is basically a dance scene and playing to the floor is paramount thats one of the reasons I dislike some djs who carry on regardless. finally I think the present time is the best for me because I am able to go where I want when I want and have loads of mates who are in the same boat who share my love of classic oldies cheers b
  16. I go to oldies nights because this is my choice and the ones I go to are well attended went to a niter recently and this just reinforced my reasons for stopping doing niters years ago. but each to their own, like you say oldies aint your era, for me it is , so why the the sour remark its not the fault of us who like oldies its simply this where I go, and usually its every friday and saturday and to many venues the majority are well attended the ones that are less well attended are the ones with an ATB policy and play many none classic oldies including modern gotta agree with you there are too many wannabe djs out there who have started there own events , and oldies nights seem to be on the increase , good or bad, I can only say that the punters will sort the wheat from the chaff and the good ones will continue to flourish, dont know what it will be like 10 years down the line but then I will be drawing my pension lol
  17. gotta agree most r & b is rubbish & b*ll*cks to me
