  1. hi lou am passionate about my scene , go out every w/end usually friday and saturday without fail ,attend the odd sunday sessions , do various w/enders going to soul in the sun, hate it when work stops me from going (fortunately not too often) have a great circle of friends in the scene and have some great times , still eagerly look forward to going somewhere different and every now and then the hairs on the back of my neck stand up as I hear something for the first time, long may it continue , cheers b
  2. simon I dont do allniters and love the oldies so am I a non person with failing eyesight think theres room for all in the house of soul and each one deserves a bit of respect cheers b
  3. gotta agree there are loads of venues round our way that offer the same old same old every w/end , could attend a different venue almost every friday and saturday night within a 20 mile radius and not attend the same one again in 12 months, ten years ago there were only a few do,s every month locally and had to travel and the attendances seemed to be better and more settled, nowadays you can go one night and the venue can be full to the rafters and the next month theres simply because the punters have chosen to go elsewhere there seems to be no rhyme or reason to this , over this time events / venues have come and gone , longstanding friendships have broken up and the scene has become fractious and fragmented, have many friends who dj and or promote but although I attend their do,s am always willing to try something new/different.. ps.. and dont take any of the lookbacks on here seriously because have travelled to some of these loudly trumpeted do,s on the strength of the comments and have to say, been sadly disappointed,
  4. although according to some on here scooterings got nowt to do with this scene , will be doing my annual pilgrimage to the Isle of Wight with loadsa my soul mates and our scooters for what will be a crackin bank holiday w/end
  5. hows the membership holding up mike , seems theres new members all the time and what happens to people who havent posted for years keep up thegood work tho cheers b
  6. but think of all the more usefull/ enjoyable things you could do with your time and brass.
  7. dont own any vinyl, got loads of cds legit and downloads plus mp3 and laptop full of tracks, feel sorry for you vinyl junkies, the price you pay for a flat plastic disc with grooves in it is beyond belief, to me the scene is about the gigs and the people who go to dance/listen . just my humble opinion of course
  8. also used has an insulating varnish on electric motors and transformer windings , used it back in the day when panel wiring . there used to be a oft used saying regarding this , to give someone or something a good shellacing,
  9. there are loads of young people into the scene round our way mate and they seem to fit in ok.
  10. well I,m into both and know a lot of people who are also into both and ,may I be bold enough to say they are a bit more opene minded (the ones I know anyway) about the music than some of the more self opiniated smug fookers that come on here who profess their opinions as tho they were gospel. please remember- OPINIONS ARE LIKE *RSEHOLES , EVERYBODIES GOT ONE
  11. he dont like it when you mention hanging monkeys either
  12. I go to numerous scooter rallies and without exception now dont bother to attend the accompanying (nothern/soul event) this is for various reasons but mainly because what they offer in terms of music and the mindless minority of scooterist who go there to get pissed and act like prats . all the best to the decent folk who attend but its not for me. if I want northern soul then there is usually something on close by that has nothing to do with the scooter rally which I will go to, or settle for a quiet night chilling in some pub with a few likeminded mates, have seen the shirts and hey there not big and certainly not clever ktf B
  13. dave find this story hard to believe although if what you are saying is true , then there is something seriously wrong here, you are saying people knew who stole your records and did or said nothing ,thats as bad as stealing them
  14. the scene here is dominated by dj,s/promoters who in the main are over 50,fat, balding and males, a smattering of old thinnish blokes with hair and a few old geezers with dodgy tattoos, there are very few female djs/promoters and the young ones that do take part do so because their parents are involved . although there are some really good young dj,s round our way, they seem to be playin more for the novelty value rather than for their talent. and when you get issues like OVO and the cost of these , then its no wonder the youngsters are put off. untill they get there own old boy network they have no chance, just my humble opinion of course
  15. this also interests me. does the person /persons who have bought the original just own the original record or do they have sole rights to play the music/song on it
  16. agree with this rod there are a plethora of well run , well attended local soul nights and would say that boots/pressings /carvers are regularly played out but you dont get many punters coming on here moaning about it, its a dj/collector topic as said all I want to do is go out and enjoy , end of : )
  17. well said a reasonable arguement if ever there was one cheers b
  18. rob this aint the only forum where you have mentioned this , but I aint defending the guy , just making the point , about the night in question I made a comment on another thread and though tongue in cheek it was answered by yourself and no doubt we will have words over this , its about opinions , mine is you and your mates do a fantastic job promotin brid , but if you was dj,in on my front lawn I would draw the curtains and turn the telly up, but then again I aint been on the scene two minutes and ride a scooter and know fook all about the music , fortunately our angie doesnt dj, cheers b ps only mentioned two names yours and angies
  19. a bit thin skinned arent we rob surely you have been called worse and as for petty northern bollotics , then why respond in such a manner, especially when the guy doesnt come on here , say it to his face and dont bring his partner into it,, thats petty
  20. cant disagree with anything you said phil but we cant turn back the clock and back in the day thats what you had to do to hear the sounds, but then the dj,s were round our age or not much older, what chance has any young aspiring dj on another thread it argues that you need a 5 figure sum of records in your box to be a dj
  21. as said a collector collects and desires the real thing , and dare I say regardless of the merits of the music in some instances. a dj to be succesfull has to play the right music to the right punters and most puinters ( will say the majority of whom dont come on here) just want to listen and dance to whatever genre of the music they like 3 differing positions , you can be all three or any other combination think the people who matter most are the punters who lays down their hard earned to be entertained of which I am one, everything else is subjective and I dont subscribe to the mantra of OVO thats just a ploy by some to keep up the prices and to discourage people from dj,in
  22. wrt the above post collectors obviously want the real deal, the question is,, do dj,s have to have the real thing and do the majority of punters give a rats arse, my opinion is ,as a punter I aint gunna lose no sleep , its the music that matters
  23. yes ,clocked this at york rail museum the other sunday
  24. yer dont happen to have a willies jeep going spare do you would love one of these
  25. I once played a set off some tatty old cds at soul in the sun and they clapped , It made me feel suicidal and couldnt live with myself , but r angie talked me round , she said your no dj, but you know your music, anyway she said she didnt want me to turn into a superstar dj playin monster awsome sounds like they do now
