  1. got to agree to a certain extent , but thats the cause of one of the biggest bones of contention on here guys with records who want to dj start their own soul night and invite fellow promoters to dj on a you scratch my back scenario , so its not about merit or integrity its about who you know and not your capabilities , which obviously does nothing for those who dont have their own venues and typically thyis included women and young people ,
  2. I dont dj I dont have a collection I have an opinion though , and to me as I said in my initial post its what comes out of the speakers and how a set is played out that counts the format ie what its derived from doesnt matter to me , its all about the music : )
  3. it means it used to have a female resident dj but doesnt have one now , probably because they would sooner have a male : )
  4. theres a lot more can be added to those but as a percentage would you guestimate 50% 40% 30% 20% 10% of dj,s are female then what about those say under 25
  5. it even had a female resident at one time ffs
  6. dont think its funny at all chalky but you spin it how you want , the facts are you have been in this for yonks and have the records .
  7. the ploy was to draw them out and it as partially succeeded , am just challenging the status quo , would love to see a lot more young people and women dj,ing , but obviously you need to have the wherewithall to get the records and you have to break the old boy network to get in .but theres none so blind as those that dont care to look or as deaf as those who wont listen : )
  8. was priveliged last night to attend a soul night where 50% of the dj,s were women and they both played great spots .one resident the other a guest , but think that was the first ever .so things may be improving , and its nice to see and hear from a woman on here who is a dedicated collector .: )
  9. well if you are young and work for minimum wage in a call centre then a weeks wage aint gunna buy much .wherehas I probably earn a lot more , my nephew gets less a month than I get for a week if I work the weekend
  10. women account for approx 50% of those who go to soul nights . niters w/ends etc , what would you say the percentage of women dj,s is or promoters
  11. yes the records are there for everyone provided you have the money to buy them , know of a few people who have spent beyond their means and have suffered has a consequence of trying to fullfill their collections , the few women I know who collect dont go for the big ticket records they have more modest ambitions and usually have other considerations with blokes its a form of dick waving especially those established players , think there was a thread on here not long since where it was suggested that to be a name on the scene you needed a box worth at least £10,000 to be able to compete and play out ,ffs
  12. I aint blind and as for young promoters yes theres legions of them , my arse, same for young dj,s, the ones I know have limited means and cant afford to pay the asking rate for their wants lists , as for those doing their best dont make me laugh , there are now more politics and backstabbing in the scene than ever , wobetide anyone who challenges the status quo , the soul police are alive and well : )
  13. once again the OVO brigade or should I say those who have a vested interest in perpetuating the myth that only OV is acceptable . have said before its what comes out of the speakers that counts , the collecting of OVO is stamp collecting with sound , insisting that a dj can only play ovo is just a ploy to exclude young people and those of limited means especially women from dj,ing and that the fat balding and over 50s boys can keep their monopoly : )
  14. each to their own I say, dont wear the baggies dont look good on fat blokes but one shouldnt critiscise other people for their attire IMHO, its a matter of personal choice end of. same with music I dont care for the disco thats creeping in but hey ho people dance to it ffs
  15. I was there as well spoke with some of them for a time and they seemed very nice clued up youngens and think that they look well in their baggies no vests though , and they were all dancers , long may they continue
  16. its been a great year for me stopped smoking in february after 40 years on the weed and feel very very much the better for it. my wife bought me the bike of my dreams a triumph bonneville 2007 850cc, its fookin choz music wise heard new to me , loving that girl Raphael Saadiq and a long forgeton fave, Melba Moore magic touch, both courtesy of this site . been out and about mainly in yorkshire and the east midlands and think the oldies scene is really buzzing there some well attended , cracking venues with people and music I like. ventured over the penines into injun countree a few times and shared the vibrant oldies scene there at the monaco . done a few w/enders , Brid ,Scarbro and best of all for me the Isle of Wight august bank holiday and r angie rode pillion with me for the first time . would like to see a bit more tolerance on all sides and genres of the soul scene especially towards the young and newbies to the scene , would like to see a few more females and younsters behind the decks instead of the same old fat over 50s baldies that dominate the decks, on that note wish everyone a merry christmas and hope for a prosperous new year for us all,
  17. and to hear some of them talk they must have attended some of the said venues wearing fookin nappies , mindst theres quite a few on the scene now wearin incontinence pads

  21. well well fookin well was thinking about this the other day after someone said something to me at Bridlington , but heres a little story someone posted a story concerning an old grey whistle test video on here and very interesting it was,, and the first tune played was melba moore magic touch long lost in my memory but what a fookin tune , but nobody has it in there boxes these days, anyroadart thats bye the bye , think the scene has become very polarised now and split along the lines of progressives and traditionalists, and to me these two factions are getting further apart , still dont do niters like Ihave said got better things to do than mope about knackered or asleep during the day , scooters to ride and things to do, thankfully have been to the Grosvenor rooms (was there last night) and to me its one of my fave venues, went to the afternoon delight at rothwell last sunday and stayed for an hour listening to whatever they were playing , sorry but didnt hear anything to stir me onto the dancefloor , have not been able to go to as many places/events lateley as Angie has not been well fortunately she is much better and we are planning to visit some different venues , cheers b ps not wearing bags , vests or white sox ffs but got some nice pegs
