as a scouser.. . its the worst scouse accent ever in any film -show -tv programme . ..but i liked it and great music.. that wedding in a pub in kirby very true to life there ..i believe it was john shea who was dragging his feet about the release to video -dvd ...wanted more cash and who can really blame him

a good friend of mine and JIM SMIRK ( leek and now biddulph) and the late great and sadly missed GLENN HUNTER ...HOLLYWOOD AL is hosting a northern soul show on radio station live from the states on monday morning at 8am till 10am uk time....anyone who went on Kev Roberts soul trips to the states might have got to meet AL. after listening to " You`ve come a long way baby " by Flower Shoppe (its on a cd in the car ) when you get to 1.28 on the song i am sure he sings " but now your all grown up with hairs below your waist . ...must admit never realised that what they sang ...check it out and let me know what you think ...sorry if its been put up before.....

When i lived in BOOTLE in the 60s my dad worked on the docks as a stevedore, didnt bring home any records, but anything else that wasnt nailed down he brought home......they used to accidentally drop cases bound for the U.S.A., at times we had more JOHNNY WALKER RED LABEL WHISKEY in our house than was on the ship . He came home from work one day after 1000s of womens knickers went missing off a ship bound for the states ,to find my mum had washed all her share of the booty and hung them on the line for everyone to see,can still see and hear my dad "effing and blinding " and grabbing them off the washing line before the old bill saw them .......also remember i had to push my little sister around the block in her pram with a t.v. and radio in it when they came around to check if you had a license for the t.v. or radio. .....great memories..... sorry i went of topic a bit....

must admit it looks a bit cheesey from the clip i watched, and the wide pants and twirley skirts ,and anyone watching a documentary on northern soul for the first time will think this is what you have to dress up like .....but like everyone else will watch it and hopefully enjoy it.... and will report back next thursday after the show

After another Saturday morning in bed with a big mug of tea, newspaper and of course BRIAN MATHEWS and SOUNDS OF THE 60s ......i googled MR.SWERN and found out he has a record collection of over a million records ....could he have possibly the best English collection of soul records in the country,or is it a mix of British and imports .does anybody on here know him ....or any more info on him....and finally would he make his will out to me for all those records..... ...

they really are a pain in the arse....but near the end of the night a few promoters have left the door,so the drunks just walk in.

i do think the baggy pants and big skirts, shirts full of badges are so old hat , when you go on gallery on here and have a look at the photos,i would not go to some of these events when i look at the dress code...not my cup of tea dressing up or down.......a little bit of me thinks its a " HEY LOOK AT ME " ....just move on please.....

On the first soul trip with Kev Roberts in L.A. about 8 or 9 years ago ...having a few drinks with Jim Smirk,Glenn Hunter Rob Beard and myself Kev Farley ...we met up with a local guy who used to be a radio DJ in the 60s who went under the name of Hollywood Al..... he went on to tell us " that he thought he knew all the artist but not the songs....i have been on the radio all through the sixties and never heard any of these songs...never seen dancing like this "..... he ended up turning up for whole week ....then turning up in NEW YORK and CHICAGO for the other soul trips....a couple of years ago he came over to stay with Jim Smirk and came to the Cleethorpes weekender and loved every minute..he met quite a few soulful people who were there that weekend....so if you met Al when he was over you know what a great guy he is,so now he has let me know he has got back on the radio and will post a link i hope that works.... https://blogs.kusp.org/heartofsoul/ ....this weeks show is a CHICAGO special....doo wop....northern soul ...and some great soul music.......if you like it send him some requests and how much you like the show ,and if you remember him just say hi.....thanks kev....
