  1. California Soul by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell (or Marlena Shaw if you wish) always conjures up warm Summer days.
  2. The Tappan Zee label was started by jazz pianist, Bob James and is named after the Tappan Zee birdge which is near New York City. Bob's tunes were popular on the Jazz Funk scene but his biggest hit was 'Angela Theme Fronm Taxi. There's a label history here: https://www.dougpayne.com/tzstory.htm Here's a scan of a British release by Bob.
  3. There are a few web sites out there that feature badges. Here's one that has a few Wigan Casino badge scans: https://capitolsoulclub.homestead.com/badges.html
  4. Released on Tamla Motown - STML 11244. I also have a few US releases in the DiscOTech series (1975 onwards) which comprised collections of more contemporary releases and I have one of the compilation albums from 'The Motown Sound' A Collection of Original Big Hits series - all well worth picking up if you see them - especially at £1.99.
  5. Awesome sound. Recorded on 28 January 1964 and appeared on the 'Lost and Found' ' Love Starved Heart' CD on Motown which came out in 1999.
  6. I try and avoid having to use a PC if possible but a quick Google search reveals quite a few sites with record cataloguing software. Try these for starters: https://kixsoftware.com/mcminfo.html https://members.tripod.com/~Vinylville/catalog.html https://www.brothersoft.com/record-catalog-download-6478.html I haven't tried any so they might be rubbish or just what you wanted.
  7. Sorry, forgot to add that it costs about £30 and is worth every penny!
  8. If you've got a Mac then the best programme you can get is the new database - Bento. It's incredibly easy to use and you can add whatever media you want to it. I started cataloguing my records with it recently and would be happy to send you something.
  9. Great track - I remember it as a 'Cleethorpes Sound' - the same label (DPG) as another favourite 'funky' sound from that period - The Gig by Raw Soul.
  10. Just passed 'Top Of the World' in Stafford this evening - it's now called 'Zanzibar'. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me.
  11. How about the 12" with Gentleman and their Lady 'Like Her' on the flip on US Roulette?
  12. I wasn't sure of Mike's second name - just remember him as 'Stroller'. If you speak to Tony again ask him if he remembers 'Link' from Southampton.
  13. Another picture of Tony - at Cleethorpes in the late 70s if I remember correctly.
  14. Yeah I remember Tony - a great guy, haven't seen him since I left the South 25 years ago. He was a good amateur boxer (probably where he got his superb footwork from). Good dancer in the 'Modern' (at the time) style. Used to hang around with Tom Wylie and Mike ('Stroller') from Bournemouth. His name in Blue Rondo A La Turk was Moses Mountbassey.
  15. Yeah, that one weighs in at a mighty 1:44.
  16. Richard Temple - 'That Beatin' Rhythm' - always guaranteed to make me feel uptempo.
  17. It is on planet 'Down Under' - though very early in the morning!
  18. I'd be very interested in a list.
  19. Lord Sitar - Black is Black was one of the strangest cover versions I ever heard played.
  20. Did you see the documentary about Al Bowlly on BBC 4 a month or so ago?
  21. Great documentary though it perhaps focussed a little too much on the Supremes. Wonderful promo of the Impressions' "People Get Ready' - Curtis Mayfield is sadly missed.
  22. There was a thread on the Anderson Brothers just recently here: /Anderson-Bros-t66792.html Also there was this one though the link to the Stax site doesn't work: /Artist-...other-t116.html
  23. Cal Tjader - Soul Sauce springs to mind.
