  1. Each version of "Doin' It" is terrific in their own right. Both still sound really fresh, giving lie to the theory that much 1980s soul sounds hideously dated. These are both fantastically cleanly produced soul records, played by great musicians and sung by great soul singers.

  2. I've got a version of "Doin' It" by Gwen McCrae on UK Atlantic 7" from 1982.

Anybody know if this got a US release ?

Also what year did Chuck Strong get released ?

  3. I just like the fact that soulsters are dancing to it even though it sounds as though the band are using a Bontempi and the begining sounds similar to "devilgate drive" I do like it though  sleep3.gif   sleep3.gif

I thought the start sounds like "shang a lang" or one by the Glitter Band :D

Maybe we should have a vote - Suzi Quatro, Bay City Rollers or The Glitter Band laugh.gif

  4. At last Coronation Street mentions northern soul!, Craig Charles in his cab says to two young boys in the back "listen to this...pure Wigan", then its The Flirtations, Nothing But A Heartache and a another one which I could'nt make out, so all my emailing Granada studios about the lack of northern in one of the biggest cities has not been in vain!!! :D   :P   :P

  6. I got it,not sure whether it original, how do you tell, mines dark blue with silver writing,on philips

The dark blue ones are second issues.

Originals are a lighter blue and have "Phillips" in either red or orange.

The "B" side "Thanks To You" is a far better side IMVHO.

  7. Anyone know if

Cliff Nobles - Love Is All Right / The Horse. Phil La Soul 313

    was ever preesed up.

Found an old copy in the loft which has a matrix 103033. This would point to it being made about 1974.

Didn't think so cheap a record would have been pressed up.

    Any info appreciated.

  8. I would say that's a bit cheap eh? I think it's a marvellous record and i would say going rate is more like 30£ish..

I'm after his "love connection" on the same label, although under the name Home Boy... can't someone help me with this please?  ranting_1.gif   :shhh:

  11. I'm trying to get in touch with a guy who posts on here in the sales section under the name duncanm. Also has his own site www.thesmartgroover.com

I bought a record from him on 11/5, paid via Paypal. He said he would send it next day and I should receive it 3 or 4 days later. Well here we are 12 days later and no record. I've emailed him a couple of times but got no reply. thumbsup.gif

Anyone bought records from him in the past and did all go well.
