  1. That killed that one then!!
  2. In no particular order, but starting from times past, to the present: Nev Wherry John Vincent Pat Brady Dean Anderson Saus Butch Dave Rimmer And, of course... 'Johnny Fingers'!!
  3. Upon hearing that it prompted me to post this and ask the same question... NEW.mp3
  4. Seemed to think a green vinyl copy with a moulded label with atco dist on bottom of label? May be barking completely uup the wrong tree here and simply getting details of originals and boots intertwined! So I'm gonna shut up now... before I start digging a hole for myself
  5. There were a lot of different boots of this Ian, and my memory ain't the best (JM's bootleg guide is probably best for clarification... anyone?) but think that, if yours is styrene with a raised X then it is the Detroit original - only problem I have there though is the 'shade' of green. I can't remember if it was light or dark! I know it was reissued by atco in the seventies on both green and orange but I think the layout of the label was different? And I do remember a dark green boot, albeit with a very glossy stick on label. As I say, with so many boots and reissues of this I honestly can't remember which is which but hopefully someone will clear things up.
  6. Wot about if you ain't got no fingers! is that what's meant by 'being all thumbs'
  7. Not forgetting Bobby James' storming version on Lanor
  8. Your comments are not wrong, Mace, almost anyone could knock up a plethoria of things if desired... and, yes, it has been going on for decades (whether people like it or not it does satisfy a market fueled demand) - BUT.. and this is probably most peoples perspective - morally it is wholly and entirely wrong and only done for one reason: selfish commercial gain! Big difference to having a single copy of a cd only track cut onto vinyl for personal use (convenience) to producing multiple copies of something for personal financial gain... especially when it is not even an original work of their own! Don't art forgers. in fact all forgers in general, face stiff penalties of incarceration if caught producing fakes of original pieces for sale to others? Mmm
  9. My sentiments exactly... which is why I put 'apparently' as without being there to witness it I wouldn't have believed it myself
  10. Ther is something on Radio 2 this coming Saturday, at 9.30pm 'The Philadelphia Story'. Don't know if this is the same as or something completely different. I plan on being out saturday night, but if someone is able to capture it and post up it would be greatly appreciated.
  11. I'll still give you a ton for it though Bri... even though Dave thinks I'd be paying over the odds
  12. I had new neighbours move in next door to me in 1990 - after a few months, and once we'd got to know each other better, he popped round one day with a white plastic carrier bag containing approx 30 45's. His mate had been active on the soul scene some years earlier and this was the remnants of his collection (Max from Cambridge apparently went thru them first!). I gave him about 50p per disc - all 'classic' boots with the exception of two: Cobblestones on Mercury issue & Wade Flemons 'Jeanette'!!!! Wot a hit!!! er... not quite: firstly, sold the Wade Flemmons to a friend of a friend one Ritz a/n after they caught me with my box outside the toilets - and as he was a mate of a mate I felt charitable and let him have it for a tenner! Instead of the twenty I was gonna ask. Worse still... some guy had sat there and witnessed all this take place - only after I'd watched a very happy chappy depart with his new purchase did this bloke turn and say to me: 'you know that sells for £200 don't you'!!! The Cobblestones (never a favourite tune of mine) saw people tripping over themselves to be the first to secure it for the £10 price tag I attached to it. It was only when I then asked someone what it was fetching I realised I'd just gravitated another testacle!! The way I prefered to look at it was based on the original purchase price I paid, that way the sick feeling wasn't quite so intense!
  13. Forgive my apparent stupidity but... are we talking about the Resist or Claire 45!?! I've got lost somewhere here, are the negative comments about 'Black Wings..' or 'Love Plays..'???????????????
  14. Temptations__Too_Busy_Thinking..mp3
  15. Two here, both from The Temptations: Firstly, their (original) version to Micky McCullers 'Who You Gonna Run To' and then the brilliant 'To Busy Thinking About My Baby' (M.Gaye) Temptations__Who_You_Gonna_Run_To_.mp3 Due to size restrictions, Too Busy.. soundfile on following posting
  16. Soundfiles: Big_Joe_Turner__Seven_Day_Fool_.mp3 Unknown__Stick_By_Me_Baby_.mp3
  17. As Chalky states, cut just a few year ago - don't understand his Hong Kong comment though, unless it's like the 'made in Taiwan' label... immitation/fake/cheap alternative ? A bit more input on this would be appreciated please Chalky..
  18. Including the 'Rockin' With Soul'? Hong Kong!?! Eh? Wot about these alt versions: Male vocal of Seven Day Fool & Unknown Artist 'Stick By Me Baby'... Pucker or messed about originals? Mmmm!
  19. Larry Hammond possibly?
  20. 2k!! I need to meet this guy's drug dealer!!
  21. If you ain't keen then maybe you should get rid Bri...
  22. Obviously a man of taste Martyn... someone else spinning it can only contribute to it's deserved exposure.
  23. Negatory... only common factor they share is the title
  24. Thanx for that, makes perfect sense to me that you made the right decision! Personally feel that, even if only a 25 count for eg, price should really have been more around the 150 mark. In the wider scheme of the collectors market place even a 50 count could soon be 'devoured' and the price tag be seen to settle to a more reflective amount... say around the 200/225 mark. Always rated this 45 and felt it was never given the exposure deserved... maybe time to get it on the decks again
  25. Great Thread! I recently discovered some of my old notebooks going back to the 70's, where I used to make 'tips' of what I thought would be future biggies... as well as noting who was playing what & where, along with various other snippets of info etc - all interesting stuff, and prompts me to throw a couple of toons into this arena: 21st Century 'Shadow Of A Memory' (Noel) I know Arthur is currently spinning his alternate version acetate of Minnie Jones (which I feel is better than her issued cut on Sugar) but this, for me, has more substance and, I feel, would have more appeal on the dancefloor. 21st Century 'Coming Right Back' (Noel) Flip to the above track, and couldn't be more of a contrast! A great tune in the style of traditional 'Northern Soul'. Stomper from start to finish! From the first instrumental bars, through the distinctive vocals and into the chorus it just grabs you and moves you along nicely in tandem with the infectious beat. Certainly one for the dancefloor. Jimmy Phillips 'She Belongs To Me' (Bumps) A truly masterful and infectious slab of class R'n'B. I rate this so highly!! Deon Jackson 'Nursery Rhyme' (Atco LP) Another R'n'B tune that automatically attracts attention and drags you onto the floor to partake in the delights of it's awesome production, with all you could want from a brilliant dancing record. Lyrics are somewhat 'nonsical' so this could never attract a huge price tag. Although I play it off the album I believe it did find a 45 release on Atlantic. Anthony & Delsonics 'I Never Had A Girl' (Emerge) This is the flip to their brilliant 'Every Time', and is a more 'full-on' tune. Actually the official 'A' side, it's driven from start to finish by a blend of brass and drums with a guitar/drum instrumental break. The music is over ridden by the vocalist telling us how pleased he is with his gal, which contribute to complete this 45 being a dancer's delight. Well, that's something for you all to chew on... Fingers
