  13. Totally respect your perspective on things.. And we do live in a supposed world of free speech - which, after reading your post, I thought I'd get my twopenny worth in, relative to the elements of your post I've highlighted in red & in order to set the records straight.. What total BO**OCKS !! The ones that 'just don't get it' are those that still think they're in their late teens an early twenty's.. Stuck in a groove that, although extremely important to the Soul Music scene's history, is - just that - HISTORY !! I can only hazard a guess at this, but I'm presuming you only attend those types of promotions that cater for the more nostalgic amongst us and one's that have a policy of 'oldies'. Nothing wrong in that whatsoever !! To each their own, as they say, but I feel it necessary to point out that not all 'up-front' or 'progressive' promotions are the type where you'd go if you wanted to slow dance all night. There are several successful promotions out there - but I'll use just one as my example in relation to the tempo, style, and quality of tunes that you feel only those 'tried and tested - for nearly FOUR decades, now - can offer.. Move On S.C. in Coventry. Attendees to this promotion are fully aware, and even now expect, that a decent percentage of stuff played is gonna be new to the ears. But each and every one of 'em have the class & quality elements of those 'classic' oldies you favour so much. And if dancing to excellent soul tunes is your bag, then you'd better book your space on the dance floor in advance !! As 'Uptempo & 'Kicking' as 'Uptempo and Kicking' could possibly be !! Don't get me wrong.. Some of those timeless classic oldies get spun too - but are normally of the rarer variety, and mixed in with DJ sets to compliment the other tunes. These other tunes I just mentioned are ALSO oldies.. TOMORROWS oldies !! And there are several other regular monthly promotions around the country that will offer you the exact same. I don't knock your personal tastes or preferences in any way - same as I wouldn't expect you to knock mine, or anyone else's, and this posting is more an educational one - to correct infactual statements included in your post. SEEK and thou shalt FIND.. Fingers
  14. Watch him, Adam.. They don't call 'Backdoor The Dealers' Kenny for nowt !! He'll be after knocking you down by at LEAST 98.5% Ken, Lad - got some more of them 'Job Lot' remnants to start knocking out very soon.. Best you hold back some of them pennies to throw in my direction.. 5 years (min.) of kicking around - but still at 2005 prices. More interested in reclaiming the space they take up, you know me.. 'Fingers' 10p & 30p specials' !! Fingers PS Sorry, Adam - didn't mean to hijack your sales (much.. )
  15. My posting was, in fact, just my tongue in cheek attempt at humour.. As I was typing mine, Dean posted his second - saying it wasn't actually something he owned - so I missed that. In reality I would have to agree completely with your sentiments, Roger.. GOTTA be much harder than a U.S. stock/promo copy. The comment about personal preference also rings true.. Tim Brown, for example, would tell you until he's blue in the face, that Canadian releases are worth less than their U.S. counterpart. I put it into immediate perspective (I feel..) when I ask, for example, how many beautiful dark purple/red copies of Kurt Harris have you seen in comparison to the Diamond dozen copies ?? (Dime A Dozen' - gettit ??). Countless other examples too, could bear testimony to the scarcity of a lot (most ??) Canadian 45's.. Fingers
  16. Sorry to burst your bubble, Dean.. But this is actually the most common format of this readily available oldie. They did a run of about 10,000,000,000 copies so it's worth only pennies buddy.. To make you feel a bit better, though, I'll give you a tenner for it Fingers
  17. A good investment Dean.. Sooo many good tracks to be found on it !! Have a good 'un Saturday, buddy - and sorry I can't be there this time around.. Fingers
  18. Can't believe this didn't sell it at £75.. At £65 it's even more of a BARGAIN !! An absolute stunning LP - I'll be giving the track 'What'll It Take To Make You Happy' an outing at Banbury on Saturday - if you want to get an idea as to just how good this album is. Fingers
  19. Adam - one of co-promoters at this 'So Up Front & In Yer Face' Soul Music promotion, and ONLY one of it's kind in the area - has put together a little video for this Friday's night of 'Soul As Good As You Could Wish For.. And Then Some' !! in Coventry.. Superb DJ line-up's are GUARANTEED at Move On promotions - as is the MUSIC !! Check it out. Go On.. I DARE ya.. Fingers
  20. Ping.. ?!!? Statue Baby ?? It HAS to be - can't be TWO Pings and BOTH with the D.H. disc !?! Is it really you, Ping ?? - of Nicky/Sophie fame ?? Located in the absolute middle of nowhere, between H'don & Thrapston ?? Nah - It ain't.. Is it ?? The copy you sold, buddy.. Is that the same one I sold you years back & you never paid me for ?? I jest - of course, mate.. PM me please Ping - touch base, let's catch up and arrange a plan of attack to go out & have ourselves some Soul adventures.. Indulge in some 'play time'. DON'T just ignore me.. Like you normally do !! atb Fingers, (Sue & Charlie)
  21. Reading of Johnny's passing reminded me of one of my life's most embarrassing moments.. It was the day of my permanent return to the UK, after living in the U.S. with my parents and a brother. My flight from where I was living, Albuquerque in the mid-west, was delayed and as a consequence my late arrival at Chicago's O'Hara airport resulted in missing my connecting flight to London. Having been transferred onto the next available flight I was ushered into a lounge reserved for passengers travelling First Class - which I was fortunate enough to be doing - to enjoy the passing time until ready to board. The wait was only around three hours and, after sitting minding my own business for a while (being the shy, young late-teen I was), a middle aged couple sat down on the sofa by the table where I was located. I've always felt - even now - that, with my being reasonably young and obviously alone (and perhaps seeming a bit vulnerable ??) the lady adopted a sort of 'motherly' type role in indulging me in some small-talk, where it was established we were on the same London bound flight, with long conversation ensuing, about all manner of things, including the reasons for making the flight the three of us were waiting for . Having explained my original emigration to the U.S. was a decision I had no choice in - due to my age at the time, being too young to stay in the UK alone - and that, now being able to support myself financially & make decisions for myself, I was returning 'home' to live. Showing politeness I enquired as to the reason for their trip - the gentleman, although very pleasant, was quite reserved with any conversation during our entire 'liaison'& seemed happy for his 'wife' (I presumed..) to chatter away on behalf of both of them - the answer from the lady being 'We are returning back home.. after just finishing our annual tour in Las Vegas'. I didn't really delve to much into the why's & wherefore's as to the type of 'performers' they were, or any other complexities of what their annual tour involved - and they didn't hanker on the subject or make any 'boasting' type statements to do with their 'profession' (like what 'massive crowd pullers' they were, for example..) so I more or less instantly thought them more likely 'showcasing' in some seedy back-street type joints, where they were maybe a warm-up act to the strippers - and had an average audience that consisted of maybe ten to twelve middle-aged, balding, paunched bellied, alcoholic, perverts !! The fact that they were travelling First Class being a completely irrelevant fact and not one that entered my mind. I arrived back in the UK during a Saturday and, after arriving at my temporary digs - a soulie friend, that lived at home - I sat down in the front room. It was then that the front cover of the latest issue of the T.V. Times - which gave the programme listings for the coming week, starting from the Sunday, along with relevant short editorials re highlighted programmes plus a 'main' 2 or 3 page related article - caught my eye.. The front cover was a photograph of the couple I'd been chatting with in Chicago, and THEY were the focus of this weeks 'main' article. The accompanying front page headline alongside the photo' proclaiming announcement of their eagerly awaited return to England after yet another hugely successful stint in Vegas !! It was only Cleo & Johnny weren't it !! I remember how totally stupid I felt once the 'penny had dropped'.. And just sooo thankful Cleo & Johnny were not able to witness the look on my face and so, hopefully, would never be aware of how I'd 'dismissed' them as a pair of 'wannabees' !! Oh, the JOYS of being young & innocent, eh ?? Fingers
  22. Check Boba's first post - before his correction, re : 'Michael The Lover'.. You then post with The other side 'I'm A Good Guy' is great too.. (which is correct, if memory serves right ??). With me instantly believing you had indulged in a little polite sarcastic humour !! Obviously it appears the sarcasm slant must, instead, be a reflection of myself - an unconscious exposure of my own sarcastic streak where humour is concerned, perhaps ?? Was it a Psychology PhD thingy you earned last year, by any chance Joan - do I get a discounted rate ?? Fingers
  23. If someone wanted to buy my issue copy - I'd GLADLY pay the postage. In fact.. I would HAND DELIVER IT !! So... Shall I put your name next to it then, Pete ?? Fingers
  24. Do I read that correctly, Joan - as another fine example of your wickedly wonderful & sometimes mischievous sense of humour ?? I sincerely HOPE I'm right.. 'Cos I was rollin' about the floor in stitches !! Or am I the same stupid bod I always am and posts have simply overlapped ?? Fingers
