Artistics - Get My Hands On Some Lovin' - Lp
Ficklefingers replied to Soulfulsolutions's topic in Look At Your Box
I would say £75 - £100 too.. I'm sitting here racking my brains, and can't remember, as to whether I've seen an issue of this album ?? Sure I must have ?? Pretty certain mine's a DJ copy too, but don't know which box it's in to immediately check. I know it's in a box on my record room floor - bound to be in sight of me - but as there are over 2000 lp's in boxes, also on the record room floor, it's a very hit & miss operation at present in trying to locate an individual item !! -
Nice one, Ian.. Sometimes certain things can be that obvious that they don't cross your mind.. Can't see the wood for the trees and all that. I'll do some more diggin' and post any further findings on here.. I'll have to sort out scans & refosoul links for both sides of the 45 too. Agree 100% re it's arrangement. It was it's 'oddball' sound & 'quirkiness' that attracted me and prompted it's purchase in the first place..

I had a feeling this would be another 'can of worm's' thread.. I'd personally never come across it before so obviously way behind the times in that regard. The fact the majority of this sellers other items were obviously brand new, with several obvious bootlegs of unissued material, prompted me to email the seller with some very pertinent questions. I wasn't expecting a response but he/she (maria ??) did reply with a message that did nothing but skirt around my questions without answering a single one !! Appreciate the input guys - and glad I gave this a VERY wide berth..

First batch of Picture Cover items - mainly european - finishing in a couple of hours or so.. https://shop.ebay.co.uk/kam1ka2e/m.html

I'm afraid I don't !! When I first got the 45 I tried to do some research but pretty much drew a blank - unable to find any info about the label or artist. From the scant details provided on the label my end conclusion (to date) is one based entirely on supposition, and not backed by any hard facts. The producers were Jim Hollingsworth & Robert Staunton - with Jamala credited as the music publishers. There was a New York producer by the name of Robert Staunton in the early 60's - who later teamed up with Robert Walker and spent time writing and producing titles in Detroit for, at least, the Motown stable. He also had Chicago connections, with co-production/arrangement credits on (at least) one Okeh 45 (Belgianettes 'The Train/My Blue Heaven') as well as involvement at the Chess & Checker stables. Both Walker & Staunton co-wrote Joan Baker's 'Everybody's Talking' on New York's Diamond Records - where the publisher was Lamaja, a publishing company owned by Chicago Producer Leo Austell. Just coincidence that the Spectra 45 publisher is Jamala ?? Or could there be a direct link ?? A co-writer of 'The Train' by The Belgianetts was Carl Fisher of the group The Vibrations. Although they were an L.A. group they also did work in Chicago, for the Checker label. A bit of a minefield really, with 'leads' (concerning Staunton) shooting off in all directions. It's obvious he was very prolific in the industry and probably had input on records from lots of other geogrphical areas of the U.S. too. But, using the facts stated above, a lot of his work was based in N.Y. & Chicago, so possibly the Spectra label is local to one of those two states ?? Hopefully Boba on here might read this thread and possibly be able to throw some light on the matter. Sorry I'm not of too much use with actual facts for the James Cole 45, but you can see where I'm coming from with my 'conclusion'.. And even that is only if the Robert Staunton's are indeed one & the same person.

Just wondering if peeps saw this on the evil bay.. Anyone bid on it ?? If you did - did you get a second chance offer ?? Same song as The Lyrics on GNP Crescendo.. Can anyone confirm that Toby Bullard was the lead singer of The Lyrics ?? Was the Flodavieur label owned by Frank Polk ?? Given the rarity of The Antellects 45 on the same label, what sort of numbers pressed could one expect of the TB disc ?? Any input gratefully received..
-
Yes, it is.. Exact same backing as the released 45. Is your acetate one-sided ?? The flip to the Spectra release is called 'Good Guys'.. The above scan doesn't reflect the true label colour of the disc either - as the label is a much darker blue in reality. I must also add that - apart from my own copy - this is the first time I've actually seen another. Not saying it is a super-rare 45, or anything like, (although.. you never know ??) just that as it's probably not that well known & I don't see copies listed for sale.

Oops !! No wonder I dont sell anything !! I was so busy with giving it the sales pitch - I forgot the most important bit.. Cheers for that Adam - I've also included the link in my main post now

In addition to the Picture Cover 45's & EP's already active I've just added some Motown / Tamla / Gordy 'Little LP's', see sample scans below.. Some with their picture sleeves, a couple with their jukebox strips.. Predominantly UK items will begin next - with several demo's included, along with a couple or three EP's - well worth checking out for some bargains, and all at low / reasonable starting bids.. https://shop.ebay.co.uk/kam1ka2e/m.html
-
Would defo agree with that Richard - I've only ever had one demo copy, but at the same time, you don't often see the issues come up for sale either. My wife's issue easily sold at this years Cleggy for a ton. Grat record and one not heard played out on a regular enough basis IMO.. PS: Richard - still not had any joy with that Ric-Tic alternate label design 45 we've been discussing..
-
Just added some more Picture Cover items - mainly european with an odd Aussie & Brazillian 45 amongst them.. Uploading sound files tonight - all should be there by tomorrow evening, then I'll start on the next lot.. A nice batch of UK 45's, EP's & Demo's.. https://shop.ebay.co.uk/kam1ka2e/m.html
-
I have a Test Pressing of the Celeste Hardy 45 that I would let go for a 'sensible' price..
-
Just posted 20+ Picture Sleeve 45's & EP's - link below.. Countries of origin include Holland, France, Italy, Spain, Australia, U.S. and the UK. Low starting bids with plenty of potential bargains to be had. I'll be listing continuously for several weeks to come, with the next batch being UK releases and including Stateside & Tamla Motown - lot's of Demo copies - plus some picture sleeve EP's. https://shop.ebay.co.uk/kam1ka2e/m.html

Oooh.. I sincerely hope so !! And that prices are reflected proportionately for original 60's UK releases. 'Cos I'm just about to start listing loads of Motown & Stateside on the evil Bay.. Lots of demo's - not all serious pieces but some nice bits that you don't often see as promo's - Tamla Motown / Stateside / & London EP's will also be included in addition to some odds and sods - which include some nice picture sleeve ep's /45's (R&B Chart-makers EP's*****Reflections Stateside EP*****Temp's, and Kim Weston, UK pic. sleeve 45's*****Booker T. pic. cover 45*****Lou Johnson's London pic. sleeve EP*****etc etc..). Plenty of foreign pic sleeve 45's & EP's too.. As well as a couple of Motown Mini-LP's with pic. covers.. And that's just for starters !! Make note of Ebay user id : kam1ka2e - and have a browse every few days or so, to see the latest additions. Will be listing stuff almost non-stop, and it's gonna take me some time to get through them all. Some choice collector's items to be had - as well as lot's of bargains, I'm sure.. First batch of 20+ bits will be up early tomorrow evening. Scans of discs and their sleeves, where relevant, will be included - as will sound files.. Let's hope them prices keep rising !!

After being informed of Mr Moorer's copy I initially believed mine was a Vg+ and I'd sold for £2k but, you are indeed correct Dave - it was a Vg++ and went for £2,500 last year. I've listened to the soundfile posted and, as Nev mentions, there is some backround noise to it although it seems to improve as the mp3 progresses, but the soundclip is just that.. A clip of 1.02 duration only. Gotta say though - if I had £1900 sitting around I'd defo buy the ebay copy !! But, then - it IS my all time fave toon..

-
Wow !! I've never seen a Superlatives white promo either.. But would love to if anyone has a scan ?? How rare must that be !?!
-
I'm of the belief this didn't get issued - but pretty scarce promo nonetheless ?? karyl mann - the feeling of love -

Sorry it's taken me so long Tony but pleased to say sound files now sorted.. "angie brown" - lover's holiday - angie brown - slip away -
-
So far as I can remember Jim, it wasn't booted ?? I hope not, as my copy (purple & white..) went to Phyllis herself - along with my Rainbo copy of Oh Baby - as she didn't have any copies of her own recordings. I'd hate to think I gave her a bootleg of her own record !!
-
When I spoke to Butch a couple or three years back he said that, although his discovery, his hands have seen three demo's - and was quite surprised seeing my copy (above post) and said he didn't realise it was issued and had never previously seen one !! S'far as I'm aware mine is the only 'known' issue..

Many, many fond memories of nights at The Wirrina.. One occassion being when our motley crew, and aged 15 at the time, were amongst the first through the doors one evening and, as we were paying our door tax, 'The Trip' came on the decks. Once through the doors to the main hall I slid my adidas bag out onto the dance floor and quickly followed it - dancing for it's entirety before even taking me coat off !! Needless to say if ever I hear Dave Mitchell & The Screamers tune these days I'm immediately transported back to that wonderful moment in my personal Soul history. Another time - and shortly after coming out of hospital, having recently suffered the loss of my digits, I was in the 'second room' and merrily dancing away (can't remember the tune though..) when I went into one of my spins. Nothing wrong with the spin but the bandages covering my recently damaged hands all flew off, and into the faces and bodies of those dancing in close proximity. Whilst I don't remember the song being played - I'll never forget the looks on those poor soulie peeps' faces.. Still brings a smile to my face whenever I think of that episode. Or, how about the night before I was emigrating to the US, with my plane from Heathrow leaving at 10.30 the following day - talk about a mad dash !! - and again in the main hall. A night when a small group of p**sheads had gained entry.. I was happily minding my own business - hands still in bandages from my accident - and walking back via the dance floor to where our crew was seated, when from out of nowhere came one of the aforementioned p**swa*ks and CHINNED ME !! W.T.F. !!! I mean - it wasn't as if I was in a position to clout the fooker back, was it !! Thankfully though one of my elder brothers mates very quickly, & followed by said brother (Ada..), came to my rescue. The nobheads were ousted very soon after - followed by a small posse of Soulies that provided the offenders with a lasting reminder of why, perhaps, the Wirrina Soul do's were NOT their kind of gig. I remember spending the 7 hour flight to Chicago nursing a very sore chin, though.. Hoh.. The memories !!
