The Soul Village Weekender With the backing of UK based Blues and Soul Magazine and East West Records, the inaugural Soul Village Organisation Weekender takes place over the Bank Holiday Weekend of June 1st, 2nd & 3rd, 2002 at the Corton Holiday Village, Corton near Lowestoft, Suffolk. The event boasts two rooms of music hosted by - Bigger (B&S), Steve Wren (Choice FM), Dr Bob Jones (Radio London), Snowboy, Max Rees, Stretch Taylor, The Sour Mash Collective and a whole host of others. Review below was posted recently on Soul-Talk and thought it be worthwhile passing on for all to read as gives a top insight to current Berlin Scene. Sounds like its worth the bus journey . Stacks of playlists etc (just read below then hit read more) january 12. saw the first Hip City Soul Club event at its new venue, the privatclub in berlin-kreuzberg. a nice, quite 60ish venue,situated in the basement of a bar/restaurant (you actually have to go through the toilet doors to find its entrance, with no sign of the club being there outside). Entering the empty club at 11 (the time the doors were supposed to open), we found a nice fridge filled up with beer right behind the dj-booth, a decent sound system, and a very friendly booker who told us to PLAY LOUD, so what more could you want? Max and me were the first on the line-up and did it the good old double decker style were infamous for, and the place filled up much quicker than we had expected...after half an hour, marc took over and gave us a treatment with some more than decent classic sounds, the crowd went wild and asked for more...the atmosphere was overwhelming... about an hour later, the place was absolutely packed, you couldnt squeeze a sheet of paper among the dancers on the floor, every track played got an immense dancefloor-reaction, and i took over. during my second set i was almost wondering if people enjoyed themselves and the sounds played so much or if they just kept on dancing because they couldnt leave the floor due to the place being packed anyway;-) people were obviously in a very party-mood, so i pulled out some more stompy sounds than usual. By that time, the whole event actually was a lock-out for several hours with people queing up down the stairs.
