The Channel 4 15 min programme in the series "Pioneers" concerning itself with Wigan Casino was shown last nite, not that bad considering the subject has been hammered so many times. Format was normal sound bites from many personalities intermixed with old film clips. Featured included Ady Croasdell, Richard Searling, Keb Darge, Irish Greg, Russ Winstanely, Kev Roberts, Pete Waterman Keb Darge was on form with some great quotes, that had me well laughing, and even the music wasnt as cheesy as past ones.

Well trip back to Lowton this weekend, last one was at there was the North and South job last year which was the Capitol Soul Club gang delivering with the Northern boys a great nite of rare soul. This one seemed going to be a bit different, billed as a "back to the old school nite" on the flyers and only on till 2am. Advertised line up - Nev, Bernie O Brian, Dave Holt, Steve Burke, Richard Searling, Barry James No lengthy look today just a quick how it was for me, dj billing changed a bit Richard Searling went on earlier than billed, and may have been a few other changes as Kev Murphy did a spot. Fairly packed and a good buzz in the place, few old mates, all added up to a top feel to the nite, sounds wise, well the nite was titled "back to the old school"" and suppose theres a few ways you can take the meaning of that, but dont think it was a tight format, basically going on what I remember majority of stuff was revivals with a lot of worthwhile ones, as in not much cheese and some good interesting choices, and a fair few current spins were added to the mix, phonetics alt vers and mellow souls being just 2 that spring to mind. Plus some top 70s sounds. R+B room was doing as it says, R+B -ing it, didnt spend much time really in modern room as main hall was good, (as always if anyone wants to pass on just send it in) All djs up there in the main floor dished out great sets, and dancefloor was busy throughout. Onto the last hour, last spot here to me is always one you notice as at that time the record bar, alcohol supply, and all other stuff is dying off so not many distractions, so this time Barry James came under the north wales tables critical scrutinty....... and gotta say he did the job, impressed our table with some quality selections which all added up to a great spot to finish the nite, he has said will knock out playlist for those who like that sort of thing so hopefully be up soon. Overall a great enjoyable nite, we travelled up looking for a enjoyable friday nite out and a bit of a laugh and yeah that's what we got, next one in Feb is I believe the anniversary. Thanks goto Steve T for lift and the event organisers for delivering the goods. A Great nite
