Then Mick h takes over for the final hour starts with a tribute to Nottms own adopted son Edwin Starr "if my life could tell a story"&"I have faith in you" Everyone in the club ex the bar staff was on the floor for this tribute. Then Mick welcomed Sid Barnes on stage the roof lifted Sid first song I heart on the other side. Friday Nite at Lowton Lowton on Friday also had great reports, with the boys from Carlise doing good things and local boy Ian Cuncliffe dishing out the goods as well. Asked Ian for a top 5 and as always hes more than happy to pass on the word and passed on the following to us. Nice one Ian and cheers Lowton was awesome this month First spot of the nite was by young Jake I think heÃÆ’¢âÅ¡¬âž¢s only 9 years old, and he played a great spot and had the floor moving straight from his first few sounds defo a star DJ in the coming years is young Jake, next up was yours truly Ian Cunliffe I played a mixture of oldies and 45,s like The Brooks Bros--Looking for a woman Lonnie Russ--Say Girl Moments --You Said etc etc and a couple of lesser known tracks by Queen Ester--Take it easy baby Cecelia Moore--You set my soul on fire Sammy Lee--What goes around Perfections--So Lonely Symponics--No More The Carlisle Boys followed for the rest of the nite George Rouse Steve Asborne, George Hunt and Dickie Watt played some brilliant tracks my feet are still hurting dancing to their selection of rare northern soul, some of the tracks played were William Cummings--Make my love a hurting thing Devotions----Do Do De Dop Mr Lucky--I Was Born to Love You Larry Wright--Sweet Sweet Kisses Ted Wilson--I Cant Take No More Little Stanley--Outasite Loving Little John--Just wait and see William Powell--Heartache Souvenirs Matadors Say yes baby in fact all the big rare oldies flowed i.e. Wanted and needed--Packin Up--Carleena--Lets get it together--SheÃÆ’¢âÅ¡¬âž¢s wanted in three states--Lester Tipton Al Williams--Salvadors--Vondells--Don Gardner--Al Scott etc etc etc......... was bloody frightening looking at all that money spinning round and not a bootleg insight!!! Yes April was a good nite to be at Lowton Civic, IÃÆ’¢âÅ¡¬âž¢m sure Andy Hutchins&his mate Vince from Bristol enjoyed themselves even though it took them 5 hours to get there, mind you they had Tea at my house followed by a couple of hours captivity in my record loft where we fleeced each other for certain tracks Andy defo coming away better off vinyl wise !!! REGARDS IAN C

Exporting the cheese Interesting reports from mainland europe on two uk djs who it seems decided to give them a taste of how bad some parts of the uk scene is nowadays, boots, cds and cheesy and talking well cheesy here, classics were apparently dished out under the guise of rare soul. Heard that some continental soul fans werent impressed one bit. Jazz FM Searling Show This Sunday the online feed was working and yet such is me current life, still only managed to catch the last 2 records! So standy by for a detailed report then. The obvious Candi Staton was one, then had to smile, must have only caught 5 mins or so but managed to catch a lengthy mention for...... Prestwich, yes regular no lifers may have caught me going on tounge in cheek about how many times it gets mentioned. Had to laugh when heard it geting a non advert plug! This was followed by Edwin Starr "Way over there " ( bit hazy now so may be wrong) And that was it! Apart from a lengthy advert at the end Pretty sure the advert was for the Locarno in Birmingham on this Easter Sunday, as it mentioned top UK djs, top sounds, top venue.... so it had to be didnt it ? ;-) Apoligies for briefness, given meself a good talking to and will try harder to catch it all in future. The soul source web site 99 year plan Bit busy in real world, so bit behind on things here, as more than likely read have a lot of contributions which is appreciated. Certainly been impressed by the lengths some people go to pass on info to soul fans. Anyway current score on site is.... Next step all planned and will go up once find time, even though always seems in turmoil there is a plan behind it all .....honest! Hopefully will all come together soon. Cause of this and lack of time, the DMSC sounds, photos, reviews etc been put back a few days or so, to coincede with next step. Note: The site now has a AUTO LOGIN feature What it means is that members should only have to login once and that should be it, next time visit should remember you and save you the hassle. Whats worthwhile about being a member? .. get back to you on that The wide Wide World of Websites Ok muted feedback on the wap mobile phone service, so for now it stay as it is just the latest news and event information, same as you get in the event guide an dnews section. Had to laugh yet again when noticed that some web site had used some reviews from here that I threw together, seems am part of its roving band of reporters ensuring that it is the only place for the latest rare soul news! The cheeky t*** got a neck though, as apart from not bothering asking, he then fails to give even a link or a mention to where he ripped it from. Still as its "the offical number one northern web.... should be honoured? Too right. onwards.....

Been on a film trivia trip recently, was looking up tracks, some fairly interesting ones, and odd maybe well known trivia like breakaway Toni b one was theme from a film same title, which while thought first was a beach film thing, seems is only 5 min long and is now "an important work of art" and has been recently restored and put on a art show Check this write up out below, havent seen it but apparently its all to the backing of breakaway. Anyone caught it ? In the five-minute-long "Breakaway," Conner lifts the formula of pop music and garishly overworked images that is Kenneth Angers private domain into a new realm of dazzling slickness--and makes it clear that, for five minutes at least, Conner is a one-woman man. (Anger covers the waterfront; Conner is a serial monogamist.) The film consists of a young pop singer-cum-dancer named Antonia Christina Basilotta (thats Toni Basil to you) frugging, shimmying, and Isadora Duncaning her way naked around a black-on-black photographers studio while Conner smacks her with a series of frenetic zoom-ins that mime the coarse sexuality of slam-dancing. The mix of manic editing, collision-oriented zoomage, Basils own dreamy kinda-black voice, and 78 costume changes make this the most freakily un-tender Valentine ever written to a female movie star. The piece startlingly approximates the quality of a rough but totally awestruck fuck. Youll rewind it again and again.

Shocking news from one of the promoting team. Been asked to pass on that the next niter at Tonys in Blackburn will be the last!! They just have been told that due to lease running out and management of venue changes, they will not be able to hold any more niters after the May one! As the 2nd longest running niter in the UK (been running 17 years) and one of the most famous niters, it will surely be missed by many. Such was the suddeness of this news that flyers for the May event have already been printed and distributed with outthe mention that this will be the last one. As said news of this came from one of the promoting team, will post up more details as get them. Last Tonys Niter 03 May 2003

Keele Niter 05 Sat Apr This was the third niter since re-opening with the much improved format and feel. Enjoyed the last two and already in my view can be rated as one of the premier UK niters. Got to mention though shame that this one clashed with Tonys Blackburn niter, as yet again punters had to choose between two niters. And know a fair few who did go to Tonys attended the last Keele and more than likely would have again if no clash and also the other way around. Looking well forward to this as was first meet up of a group of us, we used to knock around down south a few years ago together. But over time we have moved all over place. Try and meet up fairly regular at decent events but been over a year since we all managed to meet up So first hour or so was spent in bar area catching up Moved into main room when Butch took over and as always great stuff , great sounds , crowd up for it, full floor . Still Eric Lomax track doing the buisness for me, Ally Mayers, Roger Banks and Mick H followed and all gave out top drawer quality enjoyable sets, nite was finished with a oldies set by Rob Smith Overall had a great nite, with its location, its dj policy and the crowd it attracts got to say that this niter is now a must go on my list.
