Nick B asked us to pass on details of this Saturdays Scenesville, so here you go just hit that pesky read more thing (Check out the great review of last one) read review of last scenesville Hi all, Just grabbing a few moments away from the bus to mention a special one-off Scenesville all-guest sooper dooper spectacular next Saturday (thats right, SATURDAY, unusually for us) at the Phoenix. In the tradition of Scenesville special events, well be trying to make it something you were glad you were there for, and with any luck you wont have to gnash your teeth with envy afterwards when everyone starts telling you what a great night they had once the beer had taken hold, cos youll be there anyway, supping that London shandy half after half after half in a desperate effort to keep pace with the best of em! Leading the charge will be Louth legend ROB THOMAS, the only DJ ever to manage three guest appearances at Scenesville. The fact that hes giving us another try is either rampant optimism or just plain pity. Either way, we dont care, cause if what hes played before is anything to go by hell be taking the roof off, and thats fine by us. Next up is Norwich collecting ace ANDY GILL. Anyone whose DJ box contains the original studio acetates of the Ringleaders "All Of My Life" and "Win You Over" is worth putting on just for that. When he backs it up with stuff like Johnny Summers, The Poets and all the other shite-hot stuff he plays at the Backbeat club, we want him on, simple as that. Then theres STUART TYLER. A box of impeccable sounds, the taste to choose the ones thatll slay you and a head befuddled with Spitfire are always qualities which we like in a guest, but Stuart will most likely be going on earlier in the evening, so youll probably only get the benefit of two of these qualities. Make up your own minds which two on the night. Dawn&me will be bringing up the rear and, as usual, fighting over who gets to play the Dolls - probably itll be both of us again, which is actually good news, when you think about it. Had a call today informing me that Gaz Kellet as had his entire record collection stolen, for those who do not know Gaz, hes a great guy who as had a tough time recently, knowing how passionate he was about his records im sure he will be gutted ! So if you hear of any collections going containing stuff like the Gambrells, Kenny Carter, Bob and Gene etc etc. I am sure you will agree that the SCUM that did this should be dealt with ????? and the records returned, so PLEASE keep your eyes and ears open

OK so its not northern but its still a pleasant way to while away a Wednesday evening listing to 60s-80s classic soul and tamla, club soul, latin soul, club jazz, hammond cuts etc. etc. in fabulous surroundings....hit read more for full details Not content with re-launching Soul in the City at the DELICIOUS Nylon Bar, were also taking over on the third Wednesday of the month to bring you this non-northern but still soulful evening where we get set loose on the broader spectrum of club soul sounds.... expect classic soul across the board, latin nuggets from the tico and fania stables and elsewhere, groovy organ goings-on and who knows what else. Our club plays mostly newies from the late 50s through the 60s from R&B to Girl Group Soul ..... Anyway we wondered if Dave Rimmer would be interested ... but we could be looking to March 2004 for the next free slot ;-( We have Carl Willingham playing "Popcorn" in December. The next one (Sept 5th) we have Roger Banks playing "different stuff" (he hasnt quite sussed a playlist yet)....
