  7. just in case some are wondering why guest appears sometimes when post up under a name and other times it doesn't basically if logged in, it will post under your own name if not logged in, can enter a name and will post under that however if the name you choose to post under is already registered as a user name it will add guest_ before it Idea being is once registered that no one else can use your own unique name such as happened here with greg and guest_greg greg posted first logged in and then not logged in confused..........

  12. Sidney Barnes - His Good times Still Rolling From the Citizen Times - The Voice of the Mountains, a website bashed in Asheville North Carolina comes word of a lengthy article on Northern legend Sidney Barnes. Back in the far off days of last century (1999) Sidney Barnes visited our shores, I can still remember spotting him in the Dome record room, where he seemed just a quiet unassuming man, dressed in normal street clothes and seemed a bit in awe of what was going on. Later on in the night, he easily shook of this "ordinariness" to give us a great PA on that North London stage. Following this great performance in 2000 he returned to London to give a great memorable live show at the 100 Club, along with another soul legend Hoagy Lands. By then his "ordinary" stage wear had been replaced by a gold style jacket and stetson. After the capitol he then went on to wow the Uk soul fans at Cleethorpes Weekender and other venues through out the Uk. Well time has moved on and the article mentioned at the start, gives us the chance to catch up with just what Sidney is doing, in the year 2004 along with what has happened in his life since when he shook the Uk. From maybe a different angle than our usual "northern soul" view, but an interesting one at that and suppose it is the angle that matters to Sidney the most. Maybe surprisingly to some to find that hes still working as a hotel bell man in the USA, however as the rest of the article shows that hes still got the music in him A quick quote and link to the interesting article follows ASHEVILLE - Life has taken some fantastic twisting turns for Sidney Barnes. In the 1960s, the singer and songwriter partied with Mick and Keith, toured with Led Zeppelin and Janis Joplin, was invited to play Woodstock and was on the edge of stardom with the psychedelic rock and soul band Rotary Connection. Today, hes a bellman at the Renaissance Hotel Asheville, greeting customers with a warm smile and welcome before carrying away their bags. The full article can be found at more articles concerning Sidney Barnes be found at the following links non working links removed http://www.soulfulkindamusic.net/sbarnes.htm a video of Sidneys PA at the dome is in the soul source archieves and can be dug out on request note (now up in refosoul along with Jazz FM show)

  16. yep very helpful Benji, cheers! put a ? by ones not 100% sure off, so if anyone can confirm/deny Seems theres also another similiar titled one "t'aint no big thing" - which is a john lee hooker type of thing other not confirmed but fit the bill Scotty Todd on Phillips ? one that desperate to hear is Ralfi Pagan version, on Ralfi Pagan With Love lp, dunno if got 45 release, but did get issued as flip of latin soul on spanish vampisoul reissue 45 recently. above one a good example of why wasting me time, not just a case of digging, its a cases of most of the times its the stuff that you stumble across is what that makes it enjoyable. Ther Ralfi Pagan led me to some cracking latin soul stuff anyway add Scotty Todd? Ralfi Pagan? Holiday Band? ( a dodgy one as its a recent beach music type cover, but.... ) think its about 17 probables so far, dont reckon going to reach that 50 figure but has to be a few more knocking around..maybe

  22. Mention of this by Kolla dragged up memories that mucker reckoned that this is one of the most covered northern connected soul sides. He said that once he managed to list 50+ of them, "go on name again" I said , but time was against us So in a spirit of Sat afternoon boredom, will list a few I can remember, and feel free to add versions Or add ought info, orig first version? any trivia etc etc Or if think theres another "contender" for most covered version...... get it up!!
  23. Tyring to get in touch with the Midnight Hour team, to see what score is on this post, as soon as get reply will pass on.
