do you know Mark Forrest, he was the one I first heard mention of it from, and it features on his play lists, he may have more info on written by, can't find the wilson p to check if same, but think its same as checked recently, though reckon its origins is a old gospel song "oh mary dont you weep"

Published Date: 2004/4/7 7:50:00 Fed up with hearing the same old same every week, Andy Dyson and Mick H decided to do something about it. They decided to assemble the cream of the Rare Soul DJs and put them all on together at the same venue!!! Approximately 6 months ago they approached Sheridan's to hold the night there and Chris and Rodz jumped at the opportunity of having Andy and Mick's club at their venue. So some six months later after some heavy advertising, flyers, magazines, cyberspace and with a heavyweight line up of Butch, Andy, Mick, Tim Brown, Cliff Steele, Nick Stevenson as residents and the first special guest being Marco the night finally arrived. Andy & Mick were hoping for a successful night but don't think they really expected the turn out they got for the first night. There was a real buzz leading up to the night and any doubts Andy or Mick had soon disappeared as 300 soulies from all over the country, North West, North Wales, Yorkshire, West Midlands, East Coast, Scotland, London, Kent came through the doors. It was Sheridan's first full house!!!!Nick Stevenson was the first behind the decks the night kicked off with Cornelius Dwyer - Stepping Too Fast on 20th Century and what followed was nine and a half hours (officially) of quality rare soul. The likes of which I haven't heard at a nighter for years. Once the floor the floor kicked into action it remained busy for the rest of the night with the punters thankfully accepting that even though rare and not so well known they are just as good if not better (well they are IMO) than the usual diet of the top 200 you tend to hear week in week out. At its height there was little spare room on the floor as DJ after DJ fed the expectant punters with what they wanted and they lapped it up. Just goes to show that there is a market for quality unknown lesser known rare soul and forgotten, thinking mans (or woman's) oldies. The record bar was just as busy as the main room and you didn't miss a record as the music was piped through for all to hear. For me this was the best nighter musically for many a year and many agreed that this was as good as it gets and roll on the next one!!!! So if you didn't taste what was on offer you better get your ticket as soon as possible for the next date, 17th April at Sheridan's. Promises to be every bit as good as this one with Soul Sam being the special guest along side the residents. looks like going get a good result there Craig must be a similar few non-northern find storys out there think 300 off a deep soul japan want 45 was me best non-northern find did once "win" 800 quid on the back of a prince record once though
-
anyone got decent links to worthwhile "major bill" related articles
-
tricky as in the rythmn has a "tricky" feel always pair this with Buddy ace "its gonna be me" two great bits of trickyness:) the flip of thats what you do.. not bad either in a more modern style
-
yep on lecam interestingly maybe ? there's another version of "there must be a love somewhere" on lecam by Betty Brooks, which sort of fits in with thread but on flip of her version that there's a great harlem rumble type instrumental called "funky funky" thats been popular round this way for a fair while , and likes of Robbo recently been playing elsewhere, think someone once also covered it up as "sons of moses"
-
Deon Jackson - Thats What You Do To Me (Carla) even just reading title brings a smile - tricky northern or what

dave rimmer being "the most used" reference tonight from scenesville site a clip of his review from when John Pugh guested.... John started off with The Vondells followed by Little John. Full dancefloor ensued for the rest of the set. The busiest it got was for the vocal to 'Six By Six', although people hadn't realised it was the vocal when they started dancing. think I was there that night but can't remember hearing it, have spoke to John about it recently but doesn't give a lot away
-
when first heard it , the lyrics just don't feel "right", all diff references didnyt sort of match up had a dig as had info somewhere, here you via Dave Rimmer on the soul talk email list reason being not only is it a chris king tailor made - its also a chris king written track apparently he wrote it and hired session singers with backing taken direct from a lp
-
did you get it from that link stevie ?, heard the l r monologue version a fair bit recently, forerunner of clean up ghetto imo look forward to hearing that version
-
def credited as Detroit Soul and 90% sure is a Chris King tailor Made - theres a 6x 6 vocal in hands of John Pugh, havent heard it or recall story behind it The other ebay soul45s on about was possibly an alt version of al kent "way you been acting - different vocal - think got a mention on here at time on ebay - sound clip used to be up on the first site in "quality download" thread , may still be
-
tailor made isn't it, something to do with Chris King - can't remember full story but undoubtly someone will
-
brown sugar and ....??
-
lets put this to sleep have a policy on this site that links for websites offering mass downloading of full music tracks are not welcome feel free to post up any reason why you think this policy should change

back to Charles Mintz someone else reckons 800-1000 , was also told that I was there when a certain north wales dj grabbed one up for just a few hundred recently ...apparently:)
-
DWMick no need to apoligise, hopefully I got over the point that in no way was aimed at yourself was a "late nite/long day" post and as have been told in past that sometimes my style (?) of writing can be took the wrong way, just thought better emphasis
-
good point there Christian and as have heard and been "warned" off about certain 45s going round, reckon that it be wortwhile if anyone can list any "proven" or indeed "not-proven" 45s ...over to the floor ...
-
mental note - never post a "off top of head" price had a dig cause the actual price was nagging me, but all could find was bit background to release of a 8 track cd of unissued charles mintz uplook stuff at a guess take it this is where source for insru ? This material was presented to us by Mr. Dave Brown, musician and drummer. This material was located at UpLook Records owned by Mr. Gene Lawson. Since, "Give A Man A Break" is liked by all of his fans, a discovery of "Candy Baby" and some other material, which was never released was given to us by Mr. Dave Brown. We went to Thunder Ridge Mastering where Mr. Mike Brown, mastering engineer, digitally remixed and digitally remastered this project. We call this project "Give A Man A Break/ The Best Of Charles Mintz," which now have been perfected. Now, we bring this product to the fans of Mr. Charles B. Mintz.

thought it was a straight forward reissue with unreleased instru on flip ??? or is case of my ears/memory lying to me again off top of head says seen orig mintz somewhere round 800 quid value ?? also know he's done one other nice sounding one on uplook, anything else
