have to smile had another look and its not via pye but private stock, logo was small and it was dark and my brain was small:) yep think connected as sweet blindness was orig on canadian quality, and seems that private stock and quality were connected, yeah had checked out quality and other cdns myself and thats what sort of stirred interest when saw it, 3 is stampeders 4 is the puppies, so seems to just be a shortlived mish mash of candian releases,

As A "newie" To This (brill) Soul Reference Site
Mike replied to steve z's topic in All About the SOUL
stevie cause of the range of members, different tastes, backgrounds and such, think the trick is to be dip in and out have different sections which hopefully offer different things, styles and such while this area could be said for more general, you have the "box" section where things may be a bit more "serious" -

Interesting that Dan used "I'm coming home" as a example of what northern is about , which many may nod and agree with, and sure is a popular sound at retro events, yet the intial reaction to that when first played as a new sound was empty floors What would have happened if dj then had sacked it and took the easy way out ?

nice one Craig theres a few similar ones , geographicallly based and a mine of info few of them are already up in weblinks on here (see top for link) but if know of more or juist wanna highlight some please post up heres Carolina Soul Welcome to www.carolinasoul.org, the online home for discographies of 45-rpm soul recordings made in the Carolinas in the 1960s through 1980s. The South Carolina discography is currently divided into two sections: (1) local SC labels that issued at least one soul record, and (2) SC soul artists on non-SC and national labels. The local label section is sub-divided alphabetically by label name. In some cases, non-soul releases are listed and are indicated as such. Representative label scans are provided if available; to view them, click on the small record logos. Multiple scans are provided for labels that had more than one more design. Gratitude for significant contributions to the discographies goes to the following individuals: Franz Kunst, Dante Carfagna, Matt Stachowitz, Angelo Angione, and Peter Wermelinger. To share information, please send e-mail to the address listed below.

stumbled across this site when looking up little willie g cd info on other thread havent dug thru it too deep but at first glance seems a lot of content mainly "chicano" based but some of the 60s bits on East LA bit may be of interest grabbed home page info below link here Home Page markguerrero.com markguerrero.net This website is dedicated to publicizing and promoting my music, as well as Chicano music in general, which doesn't get its share of attention in the mainstream media. There is a special emphasis on the music and career of my dad, Lalo Guerrero, and the musical artists who emerged from East Los Angeles from the 1960s to the 80s, who were part of what has become known as the "Eastside Sound." Included on my Chicano Music Articles page are articles I've written about Chicano musical artists. Artists I've spotlighted include Chan Romero, Don Tosti, Flaco Jimenez, El Chicano, Tierra, Los Lobos, Lalo Guerrero, Carmencristina Moreno, Cannibal & the Headhunters, The Premiers, The Blendells, Little Willie G., Trini Lopez, Chris Montez, Freddy Fender, Little Ray, Hirth Martinez, The Romancers, Tango, Los Illegals, Geree, Redbone, Rubn Funkahu¡tl Guevara (Ruben & the Jets), Malo, Ronnie & the Casuals, Yaqui, and Dr. Loco's Rockin' Jalape±o Band. There are sound bytes of the music of the artists at the end of each article and my Photo Gallery page contains photos of the all the artists. The Miscellaneous Writings page contains related book and CD reviews, including a book entitled "Land of a Thousand Dances" and a double CD called "The Chicano Alliance, both in which I'm featured. You can also read about a book on the life of my dad, Lalo Guerrero, called "Lalo- My Life and Music." Also liner notes I wrote for Lalo Guerrero's 1999 CD, "Vamos a Bailar Otra Vez!," and liner notes and a bio of my teenage band, Mark & the Escorts, I wrote for the CD released in 2000, "Eastside Sound, Vol. 2, Featuring Mark & the Escorts" on Dionysus Records. Stories and reviews of recent and historic live events are also included on this page. My bio, resum, and discography are available. Click on the link at the bottom of the bio page to access the resum and the link at the bottom of the resum page to access the discography. On the resum page under the heading of "songwriting," you can hear sound bytes of selected covers of my songs by other artists such as Trini Lopez, Chan Romero, Herb Alpert, Lalo Guerrero, and others. Check out the What's New pages which have information about new releases, upcoming shows, events, lectures, and TV appearances involving myself or other Chicano artists. Two of the "What's New" pages are dedicated to new artists to check out. The Mark Guerrero & Radio Aztl¡n page has information on my new band, which is a vehicle for my original music. We had our first gig, July 20, 2002 at the Galaxy Theater in Santa Ana, CA, on the bill with Malo and Tierra. Read a review of the concert on this page. Also read about our appearances at The Hop in the City of Industry, CA, La Placita Village in Tucson, AZ, the Gene Autry Museum of Western Heritage in Los Angeles, the 2003 Latin Oldies Festival in San Bernardino, and the John Anson Ford Theater in Hollywood. Check out the Lalo & Mark Band page, which has information on concerts I did in recent years with my dad, legendary Chicano singer/songwriter, Lalo Guerrero. Visit my new Lalo Guerrero Gallery page, which has miscellaneous photos and other Lalo-related images. Go to the "Home Gig" page to check the schedule of my cover band, "Hot Rox". "On the Boulevard" and "Rosalie", songs I wrote and performed, are included in the Chicano Alliance CD. It also includes recordings by artists such as Tierra, El Chicano, Malo, and Little Joe y la Familia. You can hear sound bytes and order CDs and audio cassettes of my music on the Mark Guerrero Recordings page. I am one of the artists featured in "Land of a Thousand Dances," a book which chronicles the history of Chicano rock music in Southern California. Click here for more information. Also available are Selected Lyrics to some of my songs, a Related Links, Related Books, Media Clippings, and Radio & Miscellaneous Sound Bytes pages. Visit three of my most recent pages: My 60s Eastside Flyers / Band Card page, which features scans of flyers from East L.A.'s golden age. Get a glimpse of the Eastside music scene that was happening in the 1960s. Also, on that page are band cards from the era. The second new page is the Record/CD Labels page, which features scans of my record and CD labels, as well as album covers. I hope you enjoy my website! If you have any questions or comments, please email me at https://markguerrero.net/

russ sure its a recent cd release by the ex lead singer of the midnighters, mentioned a couple of other tracks on it above hang on....
-
winnie see I would challenge your views "....have nothing to do with northern" and "force fed" fair enough if had said your idea of northern , but given fact that so far imo no one has ever been able to come out with a definte "what is northen" find that such a general view dont really hold up surely due to the wide range of styles been played since early days the only qualification that a record needs to be considered northern is that it was/is played at a northern soul event yeah sure maybe wouldn't play someone new "the feeling is real" but then wouldnt play them "long after tonight etc" either Myself reckon one of the postive things about northern nowadays is the range of styles of soul it covers, to try and narrow that range down to a certain style of uptempo 60s dance records can't be a good thing can it ? as for "force fed" .. another day maybe

nah tagged last bit on in reply to some posts discussing discussion ack!
-
if you started it up it should show in the bottom left bit of thread off top of me head dont really like discusing discussion but ..... in this case as it reads to me, think was usual case of all posts can be read many ways but usually not the way the author intended throw in different various styles of posting and the fact people are passionate about their music, then always good chance topics gonna get heated espically when two styles of posting collide hard to draw a line just when bit of banter crosses into abuse all can suggest is that people just take time out if feel have a urge to take it up a notch or kick off mike
-
just so all aware as always every one who starts a topic can close it or reopen at any time on here (if mods do it usually post up a note why) if things are getting heated then do suggest take it to pm's (or the playground ) as sometimes a bit of banter between two can be taken different ways by others on previous discussion did think meself was a good un, and hopefully Petes just shut it for things to calm down a bit
-
Peter if you wanna, can throw up a few 1 min clips of the mp3s in the sounds section of site here just a suggestion no problems if rather not thanks for the great info mike
