  1. Due to licence c**k-up there will be no alcohol @ Family Tree on Saturday. However, you are more than welcome to bring your own. Rest assured the tunes &atmosphere will still be of the highest quality. Hey it's a party - bring your own " moonshine" &enjoy yourself. The alternative was to cancel but us Soulful dancers are made of sterner stuff than that.

  11. The main aim saturday daytime was to get up to Richard and Regs(Sharron) wedding do at Soul Or Nothing in Manchester in the afternoon, and then move onto Amlwch Nighter later on in night. Unfortunatly a recent mot result has sort of affected travel plans for the near future, so plan was to get a hire car to do the couple of 100 miles journey. However when tried to put plan into action, a few major problems popped up ! Which meant that any thoughts of getting to Manchester had to be scrapped. Unlike Manchester, there was a fair chance of scrounging a lift to Amlwch, and after a few calls, and thanks to Paul O, managed to get meself onto the Isle of Anglesey. This was the second nighter at this venue, the first one was a couple of months ago and did show there was a lot of potential for this event. For this one, the team Steve and co had teamed up with New Century Soul Club for a one off joint promotion of this November Nighter, and along with a bit of tweaking, and a step up of promoting. On the night the forecast blizards threat had faded away, signs and better directions (and the new soul source venue guide!) had avoided the treasure hunt rally touch of the first one, and come 12 oclock was a good crowd in and a good buzz building up, as the night progressed so did the buzz and feel of event, floor was busy through out night, sounds wise, have to say one of best varied mix heard at a nighter for a fair old while, long distance guest djs did the business and all I asked said enjoyed dishing out to an apreciative crowd. Rest of usual homeland suspects dj-ing pushed out some on the ball sets, each with own individual style and taste. Peoplewise, saw many returning who were at the first one, lots of travellers and of course loads of locals, localish lad meself so lots of catch ups, sort outs and all that sort of thing going on, spotted a fair few online soul source types, all up to no good . Sales wise Roger B and Des P brought boxes galore of vinyl, and were a fair few of indivudal boxes knocking around, with some interesting sales. Sounds wise, as said imo one of the best mix nighter sounds heard for a fair while, was a right old mix of current, interesting revivals and the odd suprise, crowd and djs clicked, lots of highlights on the night, added a few hasty comments below Jimbo + Richard 9.00 Till 9.50 Johnny Chick Chick Jones 9.50 till 10.30 John Elias 10.30 To 11.10 posted plays in forum, Sue Perrin, Derc Hotzog, Four Pros Chico 11.10 Till11.45 Richie Andrews 11.45 Till 12.30 posted plays in forum, likes of Oracles, Johnny Vanelli Masquaders Phil Blacknell 12.30 Till 1.15 Ujimaji (can't say it never mind spell it) George Jackson - I dont have.., Topics booking up - just 3 off cuff highlights Des Parker 1.15 Till 2.15 Great set, Joe Vandiver "you fooled me" , Royale 5s Cobra 45, Gary sole, Zu Zu man, were just some of many Roger Banks 2.15 Till 3.15 Another a55 expressway trip for Roger and all need to say The Kinnettes Mark Speakman 3.15 Till 4.00 Margaret Little, Spartans to name just two Karl Rhodes 4.00 Till 5.00 another almost local lad, good buzz on his latest cover - trying to get a sound clip sorted for site, was joined by another Carl,,both pushing out double the dose, likes of scott bros etc John Dunne 5.00 Till 6.00 Paul Davies 6.00 Till 6.45 Two guests from Ireland, fresh from Caergwele nite pushed out two top sets before jumping on ferry Rob Lloyd 6.45 Till 7.30 All the way from Wrexham escorting John and Paul to ferry and gave out a great mixed set 7.30 Till 9 Mike Hughes &Steve Thomas a "3 and in" mess about to finish nighter, Steve's nomads cover has its own fan club, "va va voom" is back on the agenda after micky c's non-stop hassling ..........and that was that 12 hour nighter 101 djs, hats off to the promoting team for pulling off this one, Steve Thomas, Jimbo, Richard and Chris W NCS, for putting it together. Know a lot of work has been put in both nighters and nothing makes you more aware of the risk that such events face, than Steve recieving the extreme blizzard warnings earlier in the week, luckily the chances of them faded away but just shows you how risky this game is. trivia chico doing the one trainer thing after breaking ankle stage diving at recent paynes revival - mark b revisted Rob L passed on Caergwele night was a good one Karl said Soul Or Nothing was kicking Was right in forum on the correct way of saying Amlwch, its not like the scottish loch, the w is the key, straight from the locals mouth! (Just call me fluent in many toungues mike)) Maybe some photos and more plays later Got to say that overall this was one of best nighters I have been to for a fair old while, mix of djs attitude, the people and their reaction, sort of local 40 miles from house, 9-9am, overall feel and vibe, mix and range of sounds dished out, all made it most enjoyable and very refreshing! thanks to paul o again for save the day lifts there and back more north wales going ons next weekend sees Bangor and Wxm soul nitghts and watch out for this Monkey Xmas Spectacular two full roomer, scary bar extension friday 16 Dec more info in event guide and dmsc section

  22. CHICAGO SOUL LEGENDS VISIT YORKSHIRE Jackie Ross and Syl Johnson, backed by Snake Davis &The Suspicions, will be appearing at the Frobisher, Stanley Ferry, Wakefield on 25th March 2006. This well-respected soul night has just celebrated its 10 years anniversary, with a very successful allnighter, and now stages a Chicago Soul Special. Direct from Chicago, exclusively for one night only, two Chicago soul legends will be performing some of their wonderful songs. read more..... The event will also be a tribute to the late singer/songwriter Johnny Moore, who sadly died in May 2005. Johnny wrote a number of songs for Syl Johnson, and was a long time friend of Jackie Ross. All three artists are good friends of Frobisher promoter Dave Box, who celebrates his 60th birthday on the same night. Apart from producing that authentic 60s backing sound, which they are very well known for, Snake Davis &The Suspicionswill also perform their own set during the night. Jackie Ross and Syl Johnson have much more in common than residing in Chicago. In the early 60s Jackie was singing gospel in the Chicago area, but wanted to establish herself in the R&B market. Her break came at a talent contest at the Trianon Ballroom in Chicago. Syl Johnson's band was playing there, Jackie won the contest, and the award was a weekend of singing and being paid. That started her singing in Syl Johnson's band. 2006 - some 43 years later - and they are back on stage together again. Jackie will perform songs from many of the Chicago labels she was associated with, including Chess, Brunswick, Fountain, Golden Ear, GSF. Jackie only once visited the UK, in 1964, with Johnny Nash, on a Chess promotional tour, to promote her hit "Selfish One". Jackie has not performed any of her other material in the UK before. For the first time, this very underrated artist gets her chance to perform in front of a very appreciative soul crowd. Syl Johnson - singer/songwriter/producer; a true legend in soul music. From quote by writer Bill Pollak: "Soul music is a language. The satisfaction that we derive from a great soul performance comes from our sense that the singer is expressing could not have been expressed as well in any other language. That's why a great soul performance means so much more than just a combination of music and lyrics". By this standard, Syl Johnson is a master of the soul genre. Syl Johnson is still very much a performer and is currently performing in Turkey, supported with some of his original band members from Pieces of Peace. During April 2005, Syl performed at the Barbican in London, as part of "It Came From Memphis" - Hi Records showcase. Many soul fans in the UK knew nothing about the show or the artists appearing, and although the crowd was appreciative, the artists did not get the warm welcome that only true soul fans can show. This is your second chance to see this unique artist live on stage. Syl will perform not only hits from his Hi Records period, but will include songs from his own labels Twilight and Twinight, and his northern soul rarity "Do You Know What Love Is" on Special Agent. This will undoubtedly be a night to remember - don't miss it. Tickets will be on sale early December at £20.00 each. All profits will go to the artists. Due to demand and size of the venue, it will be TICKETS ONLY admission. DETAILS: Doors open at 9pm and close at 3am. Bar til 2am. The Suspicions will perform around 10.30pm. Jackie and Syl, with Snake Davis &the Suspicions, will be on stage around 12.30 onwards. Additional support from some of the countries top DJs featuring Chicago Soul 45s. Jackie and Syl will be available for interviews throughout the night. Tickets can be obtained from Dave &Val or Fred &Jacque - telephone 01924 894555 or 01924 891332, or visit www.soulgalore.co.uk Hotel accommodation is available close by - The Village Motel, Normanton; The Bridge Motel, Whitwood; The Tulip Hotel, J32/M62, Glasshoughton.
