Mr Kirby Small was in The Hot Tamales and he passed away the other day. His son is in my grade 9 class and had never heard of his dad's music and Motown experiences until recently. I would like to purchase this record for my student so that he has a piece of his father's musical talent to keep as a memory. Please let me know as soon as possible as school is out soon and I'd like to give it to him before he leave for high school. Sincerely, Hello, I sent an email a few minutes ago. I thought of one more thing. Does the record have K.Small on the center paper? I found one a year ago when I was researching Mr. Small that had his name printed on the actual record. Mr Small came and spoke to my class about his experiences with The Hot Tamales and the mafia and Motown and Bob Dylan. He was an amazing man and I really want his son to have a piece of his father's past.

From Saturday 21 June, Zoe Ball traces the evolution of the musical genre, from the early days of Northern Soul to the present day, in a three-part series, The Definitive History Of UK Dance Music. Now that the original ravers have grown up, perhaps settled down with children of their own, Radio 2 considers how today's music scene compares with a youth movement that burst out of the clubs and integrated itself into popular culture. In Acid House – The Next Generation, DJ Chris Coco speaks to ravers young and old – from promoters, musicians and DJs like Carl Cox and Dave Haslam, who helped kick-start a dance music revolution, to new kids on the block like New Young Pony Club and Klaxons (the Mercury-winning poster boys of "Nu Rave"). As contributors reminisce about their own Summers Of Love, Chris ponders the tricky question of how much information he should share with his own teenage son. And in Don't Start Me Talking About... Dance Music – the latest addition to Radio 2's oral history series – UK clubbers share their memories. A panel of dance music experts has drawn up a shortlist of 20 records which span the years and reflect their musical merit and importance in the narrative of UK dance music. dont think could put such a "no discuss" policy into effect, and not really convinced off the benefits as could argue that highlighting similar issues to this could/does have some positive effects but would say that discussion is for another thread have had similar occurances and myself would ask for photos of all the broken recs at very least given the circumstance would have thought any seller be more than happy to supply to clear up any possible misunderstandings

James Edward Carr (June 13, 1942 – January 7, 2001) was an American rhythm and blues and soul singer, described as "one of the greatest pure vocalists that deep Southern soul ever produced." Born to a Baptist preacher's family in Coahoma, Mississippi, he moved with his parents to Memphis, Tennessee, at the age of three.Carr began singing in church, and performed in gospel groups including the Harmony Echoes, at the same time as making tables on an assembly line in Memphis. After being turned down by Stax, he made his first recordings for Goldwax Records, a small Memphis-based independent record label, in 1964. He released several singles for the label before achieving his first success in 1966, when "You've Got My Mind Messed Up" reached number 7 on the Billboard R&B chart and number 63 on the pop chart. He also released the successful and critically acclaimed album You Got My Mind Messed Up". Carr continued to have chart entries with his later singles on Goldwax, including "Pouring Water on a Drowning Man", but his greatest success and most critically acclaimed performance came in 1967 with his original recording of "The Dark End of the Street", written by Dan Penn and Chips Moman. The song reached number 10 on the R&B chart and number 77 on the pop chart. Carr continued to record for Goldwax until the label closed in 1969 but failed to reach the same heights with his subsequent releases, though "A Man Needs a Woman" in 1968 reached number 16 on the R&B chart and number 63 on the pop chart, and he recorded an album of the same title.After Goldwax closed down in 1969, he released a single on Atlantic Records in 1971, and another on his manager Roosevelt Jamison's River City label in 1977. Carr suffered from bipolar disorder for most of his life. This frequently found him unable to deal with the stress of performing and touring, and became most evident during a tour of Japan in 1979 when he froze in front of an audience following an overdose of antidepressants. However he completed the Japan tour before returning to Memphis. Thereafter, he lived with his sister but was frequently hospitalized. A resurgence in interest in his music, spurred by his portrayal in Peter Guralnick's 1986 book Sweet Soul Music, helped return Carr to the recording studio, and he was able to complete another album, Take Me to the Limit, for a revived Goldwax label in 1991. He also performed at festivals in the US and Europe, and released another album, Soul Survivor, in 1994.
