Echoes - The Northern Soul Fans Weekly Fix
Mike replied to Mick Howard's topic in All About the SOUL
Eddie Foster Dreams of Wigan - Black Music 1970s The music is black american and obscure - ghetto sounds which never made it, the followers are mostly white and fanatical - working class kids in the industrial heart of Britain who dance like there's no tomorrow to records most of us will never hear. The Northern Soul Scene is a strange mixture of good and bad, of burning dedication and grubby exploitation. Despised by some, misunderstood by most, it is the ultimate Underground scene. smiling at simons post as it features some of the same examples i used to use when going on about searching for that elusive "buzz" don't think age is a major factor Ian just a combination of attitude, anticipation and stuff like that, another example i'd say was the first few lifeline nighters at sheridans

wants page in refosoul has over 400 flagged guess a few may be fullfilled or a case of people just hitting button but for those with a lot of sales gathering dust may be worth a look /more/?wants=wants i

Possibly Interesting Observations About Playing Oldies
Mike replied to Pete S's topic in All About the SOUL
find it happens with a few things now nowadays aint really gave it much attention for years, you then play it now, and for what ever reason it sort of takes on a different aspect you hear things going on that didnt really notice or grab you before dunno why it may be just that nowadays quality is so much better or hearing it in a different sort of enviroment if you wanna get scientific guess someone could even argue a case it may be something to do with your ears/listening changing as get older (you lose different frequencies) -
laughing here cause i once asked someone i know who had it details at a noisy venue after a few "you whats" i gave up as couldnt hear him and then later thought to meself did he just call me a f****bufffon anyone like to add it to refo ?

-
used to offer podcasting on here 5 or so years ago can't remember what happened with it all- more than likely a mix of not getting used enough and "improvements" good job i suppose as have seen some of these podcasts over 100mb nowadays
-
yep just one of many gateways to all the info a label live search can be added fairly easy will do on next round of improvements on too late adding data, nah thats all in hand hopefully be able to get going with that soon its always been a step by step process , it used to be a struggle to get members to put up an actual title at one time as said on other thread recently whole front end of refosoul is done by myself, and as its now finally a fully intergrated part of the site, can be easily tailored to fit time availables really the only factor nowadays

Ain't Too Proud to Beg: The Troubled Lives and Enduring Soul of the Temptations News of a new book by Mark Ribowsky, entitled Ain't Too Proud to Beg: The Troubled Lives and Enduring Soul of the Temptations. The hard cover edition is due out in Oct 2010 and is now available to pre-order via the usual outlets. Ain't Too Proud to Beg: The Troubled Lives and Enduring Soul of the Temptations Written by Mark Ribowsky who was reponsible for recent books on Stevie Wonder, The Supremes and Phil Spector full list via following link -click Press blurb: The Temptations are an incomparable soul group, with dozens of chart-topping hits such as My Girl and Papa Was a Rollin Stone. From the sharp suits, stylish choreography, and distinctive vocals that epitomized their onstage triumphs to the personal failings and psycho-dramas that played out behind the scenes, Ain′t Too Proud to Beg tells the complete story of this most popular "and tragic "of all Motown super groups. Based on in-depth research and interviews with founding Temptations member Otis Williams and many others, the book reveals the highly individual, even mutually antagonistic, nature of the group′s members. Venturing beyond the money and the fame, it shares the compelling tale of these sometime allies, sometime rivals and reveals the unique dynamic of push and pull and give and take that resulted in musical genius. The first book to tell the whole story of Motown′s greatest group, with all-new interviews and previously undiscovered sources and photographs Gives the last word on enduring Motown mysteries, including the deaths of Paul Williams and David Ruffin and the truth behind Ruffin′s tumultuous romance with Tammi Terrell Reveals the secret "can′t miss" formula behind the Temptations′ thirty-seven chart hits Draws on more than one hundred interviews with the group′s associates, industry figures, family members, and most importantly, founding Temptation Otis Williams Ain′t Too Proud to Beg takes a cohesive and penetrating look at the life and enduring legacy of one of the greatest groups in popular music. David Hudson - The Royal Sessions - Soul Junction LP - Out Now
Mike posted an article in News Archives
David Hudson "The Royal Sessions" A late summer monday morning is the day choosen by those Soul Junction types for the official release date of the launch of their latest offering. Their last two 45 releases were both sell outs and while this release is a return to the lp format this one could make it three in a row. If you enjoyed last years David Hudson Soul Junction single (Girl I'm Coming Home To) Something Good (which is the opening track of this lp - it certainly pushed all the buttons right here) you will be pleased to know that this release features yet more previously unreleased tracks from the very same studio sessions which were recorded at the Royal Sound Studios in Memphis during 1989/90 The track listing and featured clips follow below, the lp comes complete with a "Tribute to Willie Mitchell" written by Elliott Harris David Hudson "The Royal Sessions" SLJP5002 SIDE A 1. (Girl I'm Coming Home To)Something Good 2. Let's Make Love 3. Be That Way Sometimes 4. You're My Dream Come True SIDE B 1. When I'm Loving You 2. All My Love 3. (Girl I'm Coming Home To)Something Good (Radio Edit) 4. The Best Is Yet To Come sample clips https://www.soul-source.co.uk/uploads-soul/davidhudsonclip.mp3 Soul Junction Press Notes: David Hudson has always been held in very high regard for the excellent southern soul releases which he recorded for the Alston and Waylo labels respectively. It was during his time with Waylo that David was placed under the auspicious of producer Willie "Pops" Mitchell at his Royal Sound Studios In Memphis. Under Willie's guidance, David recorded his excellent 1987 album "Nite And Day" of which 3 tracks would later gain a 45 release. A further album project was planned but before it could be completed the Waylo label had decided to pull out of the Royal Sound Studios, thus leaving the project uncompleted. A total of eight tracks (with a long and short version of one of the songs) had been laid down but were left to gather dust in the vaults. That is until now, so after over 20 years of anonymity you finally have before you David Hudson's forgotten "Royal Sound Sessions". We have decided to release the album on the format that it was originally intended to have been released on at the time, good old fashioned vinyl. Enjoy!! can be a enjoyable things and get some good decent interesting discussion going if they have a bit of thought behind them and if posted in the right place however if they just turn in to some sort of list fest eg type a track - post it type a track - post it type a track - post it type a track - post it with hardly any discussion, then to be blunt they dont really do that much apart from clog the forum up especially when there may be another 1 or 2 going at the same time ask give them a bit of thought, try and post them in right place and if replying then try and add a bit of meat to your post as in tell us all why you have added it thanks mike

some sales have been merged guidelines say it all can read them here or via link at top of listings /forums/topic/94339-sales-forum-guidelines-revised/ 1. Posting sales All members are asked where ever possible to group sales in one list If feel the sale deserves it ( say for example a interesting three or four figure record) then no problem note - can use subtitles to highlight sales if more than one (see tips) Avoid posting more than 2/3 sales posts per day
