  1. yet more sad news thanks for passing it on
  2. thanks for that kev mike
  3. a even quicker way is to use the live search events in say wolverhampton type in 'wol' in live search box wait 2 secs all upcoming events listed with wol in title or town listed without leaving page, pressing buttons or visiting a forum
  4. poll on what? go back to a basic calendar and a forum ? still have the calendar already a forum for lookback type posts via the playlists a forum for upcoming event discussion? how would that resolve any of the issues people have raised or how would it cope with problems had in past ?
  5. do you mean "new" as in the now almost 2 year setup before reading this i just 'stumbled' on and watched a video promoting an event 10 months away posted as a comment the post was/is currently showing on 3 main parts of the site and in a promient position on the events guide which is above and beyond what the "old" system did with any comment people are using it to good effect right at this very moment and doing exactly what you are asking about
  6. can't really say more than that Joan display/layout is a pain nowadays with amount of browsers/tablets etc main effort nowadays is instead of giving one basic view to all is to try and give the best view to each setup which is not a easy thing thanks again for feedback mike
  7. still works like that to a certain degree len if say Doc posted a event comment within a minute it will show in 3 promient places that are all outside the event guide cheers mike
  8. the idea with them is to give more info, and make better use of space in all the different variations of viewers browsers in the event feature it self, they are larger they display more info give a thumbnail of the latest flyer, last comment name and time, how many comments, if there is map info, country, town, shows the no of rsvps and colour coded to show what type of event there are a actual list just instead of 1 event on a row, 2 or 3 shows (depending on your sceen width) per row yep more work needs to be done, am not happy and can understand some of the criticisms, but as always its aongoing thing loads of humour here Len, though don't bother showing it much as usually ends up been took the wrong way
  9. Joan your said you don't use the events feature but use the view new content that's meant to be a catch up, it always has been and will never shown event details in full I am talking about the event feature here however as i said previously am looking at the list option in response to your requests and am currently working on improving the mobile events version, once that is done then all being well can offer the list option cheers mike
  10. Doc thanks for views another day i would have argued about the big brother bit but if did it now feel it just take away from your views believe it or not I would say the events inc comments is very busy right now the old system was what 2+ years ago? with the old system it meant all event related stuff was spread over 3 different features you had to go to one place for event details , one place for flyer and one place for comments to read comments you had to goto a forum and then search a listing for the event now you click on events link and any event can now be reached within 5-30 seconds once reached you have all the info on one page if just after catching up on comments, the latest ones are displayed promientlyin event guide (one click), on front page of site, on the forum index and on the vnc page i disagree with your points about the actual guide , I would say its the other way around all it and rest of the site does and will ever do is reflect things nowadays some promoters do use the event guide to a very good effect, then on the other hand there are some who just post a link with min info and then seem to expect comments to flood in the way handle events on here has always been custominised and tailored to try and work both best for members and the site the actual events feature and such has and will carry on evolving thanks for views again, constructive feedback as always is welcome and appreciated mike
  11. anymore of this childish crap and will close the thread
  12. ah well, you can only try now closed onto the next one
  13. just a off the cuff thing what decade did it all kick off for you ?
  14. a lot of hard to read posts in this thread maybe help if you try inserting a blank line now and again
  15. if still looking for sources, maybe aint looked in soul source gallery yet 100,000+ pics from members from all eras in gallery on here all in easy to nav categories , pm system , member details etc etc https://www.soul-sour...lforum/gallery/ 3 pages of albums from 80s/90s 100s from individual members, flyers and so on https://www.soul-sour...0s-soul-albums/ pm system should provide a easy way to request permission
  16. last day or so before closing maybe would have been interesting to hear views from artists or those connected/involved, record labels, promoters, record sellers and so on as in has the likes of 'match of the day' plays made their world better ? but no great shakes next one coming up, as said if you do have a decent, sharp but easy to word/answer idea for the weekly poll on here then drop it on me via pm
  17. changing world looks like it goes beyond events fact that Rob Moss latest article can only draw 4 comments says it all really
  18. https://www.bbc.co.uk/lancashire/content/image_galleries/russ_gallery.shtml?13 says copyright Francesco Mellina
  19. think it normally shows up in a group of 3 or 4 pics - guy by himself in a white shirt being one of the others - and sort of sure seen it listed on a news archive website recently though not 100% so may be wrong
  20. thanks for views on the tech/geek side maybe better if all talk on the actual tech/geek side is done in another thread as it sort of gets things mixed up though one of the aims of the recent upgrade was to improve the user side which i do feel was achieved as there are now less links/hoops on the actual index page maybe with hindsight should have done the layout and usability (a word?) changes separate on comments via fb etc comments have always been members only and so would say aimed at members of soul source rather than a wider audience though could maybe give all event promoters the opportunity for guest comments as well, if there's a demand ? from what seen maybe a fair description when compared to past days may be quantity down, quality up? also the playlist forum has imo been overlooked so far in this thread as it does provide a place for more 'soul source' type discussion and is also fairly busy/active https://www.soul-sour...ents-playlists/ thanks mike
  21. Ahead of the launch of Disco Love 3 at 2022NQ, we caught up with Million Dollar Disco's Al Kent to talk musical influences, career highlights and why the mention of 'Nu-Disco' turns him into a Grumpy Old Man. "Once I got really into Northern Soul though the biggest thing in my life was a monthly all-nighter out in a place called Alanton where the UK's best DJs always played. So people like Mark Linton, Colin Law, Alan and Steve Walls, Jock O'Connor, Andy Dennison and the guests they booked, mainly Guy Hennigan and Kitch, were massively influential. They introduced me to so much amazing music month after month." https://www.skiddle.com/news/all/Dont-get-me-started-about-Nu-Disco-we-speak-to-Disco-legend-Al-Kent-/16024/

  23. Yet more sad news reported Former Temptation member Damon Harris (born Otis Robert Harris, Jr. died today at 7:17.pm at the age of 61 source: http://www.facebook....umniAssociation Wikipedia Info http://en.wikipedia....ki/Damon_Harris The Young Tempts/The Young Vandals As a teenager growing up in Baltimore, Maryland, Otis Harris, Jr. was a major Temptations fan, and idolized in particular the group's falsetto, Eddie Kendricks. Patterning himself after Kendricks, Harris and his friends John Quinton Simms, Charles Timmons (actually name was/is Kareem Ali, who went on to perform with Glenn Leonard's Temptations Revue), and Donald Knute Tighman, formed a Temptations-inspired vocal group during his high school years called The Young Tempts ("Tempts" being a nickname for the Temptations). The Young Tempts recorded covers of two 1966 Temptations' songs, "I've Been Good to You" (a song originally recorded by The Miracles), and "Too Busy Thinking About My Baby," for The Isley Brothers' T-Neck Records in 1970. Motown Records filed an injunction against T-Neck because of the group's name; the 45 was withdrawn and re-issued with the group credited as The Young Vandals, and reached #46 on the R&B charts. At about this time, Billy Griffin joined the Young Vandals' lineup. After two more T-Neck singles, " In My Opinion" and "I'm Gonna Wait For You", The Young Vandals broke up, because Harris felt that college would be a more sensible endeavor than a singing career. The Temptations In April 1971, a friend convinced Harris to audition for The Temptations, who were doing a series of shows in nearby Washington, D.C.. The group had just replaced Eddie Kendricks with Ricky Owens from The Vibrations, who was giving uneven performances, and The Temptations were again looking for a replacement. Harris performed first for Temptations Melvin Franklin, Richard Street, and Dennis Edwards before auditioning for group leader Otis Williams. Williams was hesitant about taking on the young singer, who was nearly a decade younger than the rest of The Temptations. Franklin, Street, and Edwards voted to accept Harris, however, and he made his onstage debut a few weeks later as first tenor/falsetto. Around this time, Billy Griffin replaced Smokey Robinson in The Miracles. When he joined the Temptations, Otis Harris changed his name to Damon Harris, because, in his words, "the group already had an Otis" Harris continued to perform with the Temptations for four years, providing Kendricks-esque lead vocals on hits such as "Superstar (Remember How You Got Where You Are)" (1971), "Take a Look Around" (1972), the #1 pop hit "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone", (1972, a three-time Grammy Award winner), the #1 R&B hit "Masterpiece" (1973), "Plastic Man" (also 1973), He leads on "Love Woke Me Up This Morning" from the All Directions album (1972) and is featured prominately on hard-to-find The Temptations Live in Japan (1975). According to Otis Williams' book, The Temptations, he was fired from the group in 1975 because of inappropriate statements he made that affected the perception of the group in the eyes of the public. New group After leaving the group, the dejected Harris decided to reform The Young Vandals with Simms, Timmons (Kareem Ali), and Tighman, renaming the group Impact, and signing a deal with Atco Records in 1976. Working with a Philadelphia soul production team, Impact recorded a number of minor soul and disco hits, including "Happy Man" and the #5 disco hit "Give a Broken Heart a Break". The group released only one album on Atco, 1976's Impact, before being dropped from the label because of low sales. Impact signed with Fantasy Records in 1977 and issued the album The Pac is Back, which also suffered from slow sales. The group disbanded and Harris recorded some solo singles of his own including 1978's "It's Music", and the album Silk. Damon Harris soon retired from music and moved to Reno, Nevada to complete college. In the 1990s, he returned to music and began touring, sometimes billing himself as The Temptations Review Starring Damon Harris. Richard Street, another ex-Temptation, periodically performed with Harris' Temptations review until he formed his own Temptations group. At the age of 47, Harris was diagnosed with prostate cancer, which he learned he had had for five years. After successfully being treated for the disease, Harris founded The Damon Harris Cancer Foundation in 2001. The organization is a non-profit company, designed to heighten awareness of prostate cancer diagnoses and treatments. The organization has a special focus in reaching African-American audiences, as African-American men have an approximately 60% higher chance of contracting prostate cancer than white men, and are twice as likely to die from the disease
