45cellar Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 (edited) Hi The Monday Is Instrumental Feature has prompted me to ask. Which came first / Released First Originally, The Instrumental or The Vocal. There are many examples, I have listed a few; There are many more, but do we have a definitive answer on any or all of these records / others?. In many cases the Instrumental stands up Equally as Well as the Vocal and Visa Versa. Obviously some like I Belong To You or Love Bound Were released after the event with our scene in mind The Gallop / I Belong To You & I Can't Give Up On Losing You / Love Bound Edited November 20, 2006 by 45cellar
45cellar Posted December 8, 2006 Author Posted December 8, 2006 (edited) Hi There is currently a debate about The Stemmons Express, The Precisions, and which version is best. >> Link<< The Stemmons Express, The Precisions & Timmy Willis all sang to the same backing track / Instrumental. Was it a common practice to record an Instrumental / Backing Track, made with a view to someone laying a Vocal on top and thus offered around the various labels. ( as a way of cutting cost ) As I said In the original post, there are many examples of this happening which suited the Northern Instrumental Phase in the 70's Or when first issued in the 60's were Instrumentals generally popular in their own right & regarded as the finished performance, released, possibly after the Vocals success.
