Guest carl_p Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 without looking, and to save me some time are the others 70's or 60's? funco was a new moon/rudy robinson production my guess is it was late 60's land also my guess would be it belongs on the 60's list.
Guest breakself Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 asco and detroit street service inc, I always wondered if the A. Page and S. Page credited on the Sharlotte Shaw 45 were, in fact, the same couple that sang on the Pages 45 on Sunstruck.
Chalky Posted November 21, 2008 Posted November 21, 2008 asco and detroit street service inc, Asco according to info here is maybe Miami, it does have question mark after it. Is the Detroit Street Service Inc soul? Just reading the bit round the bottom?? I've added it anyway.

Premium Stuff Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 Mail Call What were the years for this one anyone please? Is it too early? Richard
Guest carl_p Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 (edited) Hello Richard, Mail Call was from pontiac (sierras, clocks and classmen) both great doo wop groups. 1962-3 according to the jeff kreiter guide. they also had a subsidary called "Blue Velvet" that had at least two records probably both black artists maybe mid to early sixties to me. Jimmy rollins had a record on blue velvet and he was also on jer-jim-han. soul/blues would be my description. The other one was pure jazz. The Blade record is talking blues. so i don't know if you want inclusion. i'm pretty sure it's detroit. CYE was a 60's gospel label but had one or two that bordered on soul. Dave Moore Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 Blade - 70s Is this 45 any good? Cheers Richard The A side is a crazy sort of TV personality yelling a lot but the Instrumental track you posted is a fantastic version of the Jackie Wilson/Otis Leaville song "Love Uprising". It's done very much in the style of California Montage by Young Holt Unlimited. Good record and nice and cheap just like we like 'em!

Definately the Detroit address on some blue and yellow label releases on this label. Cheers Richard as well as the MandM label from the 60's there's another (M&M) 80's that maybe Detroit according to R&B Indies, Gemni, Lamont Dozier, Special Delivery & The Enforcers on a label distributed by R&L Distribution Co, Inc. Where is the M & M Mind and Matter from????
Premium Stuff Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 The Detroit adress is on all 3 Freddy Butler 45s thats for sure Hi Marc It's on #331 I'm Gonna Be With You showing an E. Lafayette address. Also on #712 My Troubles with just "Detroit Michigan" on a blue label However, no address on the attached scan of #332 Pitter Patter Anyone got a soundfile of this one please? Cheers Richard
Guest carl_p Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 re: Dynamics 45 on Dynamic. according to the dynamics article in "theres that beat". the label was part owned by ernie stratton. no doubt a detroiter. i'm guessing chicago had their own dynamic label. re: M&M Two of the three freddy buttler's 45 on M&M have a detroit address. one being a Sa-Mo production. the Pitter Patter 45 is pure r&b.
Premium Stuff Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 Blaze Think this needs to go in the 70s rather than the 60s section. Jack Ashford as shown is from 1975. Cheers Richard

Marc Forrest Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 Don`t think Checkmate should be included, it did put out a lot early Detroit penned and even recorded stuff but not only and the label was based in Chicago. Marc

Don`t think Checkmate should be included, it did put out a lot early Detroit penned and even recorded stuff but not only and the label was based in Chicago. Marc fine by me Marc, I'll add it to the Chicago if not already there.
Premium Stuff Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 (edited) Can anyone confirm??? fine by me Marc, I'll add it to the Chicago if not already there. Agreed Marc - wasn't Check-Mate basically the Chess/Checker sub-label for issuing Detroit material? Therefore, it would be collected by many Detroit collectors, although the label itself was registed in the Windy City. It is also right I think that Zodiac and Boo are on the Chicago list, even though much of the output was Detroit and of interest to Detroit collectors. What about Aquarius though? That was also a Ric Williams (therefore Chicago) label wasn't it? Is this (Candace Love etc.) Aquarius label linked with the multi-coloured Aquarius label with releases by The Domestic-Five and The Soul In-Pressions? That one had a Highland Park, Michigan address. Anyone confirm please? Cheers Richard Edited November 24, 2008 by Premium Stuff
Guest carl_p Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 I would say Check-Mate label is the same as Anna, Harvey and Tri-Phi all produced by billy davis later absorbed into motown? Just distributed out of Chicago. There is a colorful aquarius detroit label like the "Domestic five" along with the red "Calvin Golden" 45 out of highland park Michigan. I think the other aquarius records are chicago.
Premium Stuff Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 (edited) I have these two scans of the multi-coloured Highland Park address Aquarius label. Dates anyone please? Cheers Richard Edited November 25, 2008 by Premium Stuff
