band of happy travellers, york holgate club, july 1995

Derek Pearson

What a great club the Holgate in York was.

Run by Chris and Sue Holmes, we travelled over religously every month during the mid nineties.

During discussion recently it was a toss up between the Holgate and Lowton as the best ever monthly soul night' we regularly attended.

Great people, good music, nice club and an hour from home.

That's how we remember it.

Lowton shaded it in the end 'cos of its record bar......

When the music's stopped and the lights go on there always some stragglers that just don't wanna go home....
From left to right:

Bob Hardy in white;
Dave Guiry in stripes;
Pele with grey top;
Bev from Doncaster in dress;
Me in Salmon Sea Island Cotton, John Smedley Discount Shop, Doncaster;
Ronnie Pedley denim jacket;
Mick - Big;
Chris Holmes in blue;
Pino in hoops;
Fire Extinguisher in red, origin unknown.

Sat on floor in front:

Saus from Doncaster;
Ian from Doncaster (RIP) sporting his favourite red shoes.

Now that's what you call a shiny dance floor.

I look back on these times with great affection.

onwards,
derek
