catacombs dancefloor, c.mid-1973

this is the real deal!, unfortunately the grey cells cant recall names like they used to so if someone can help, it would be appreciated. does anyone out there recognise any of the people here?...bearing in mind the cats was before wigan and the vast majority of soulies who went to wigan, thus have the best memories of it, i would say an image such is this, is going to be far more obscure simply because there are far fewer people still around who went there....despite that i am hopeful someone can shed some light on this intriguing picture. the camera angle suggests it was taken from the stage, lefthand side and the little serving hatch is visible, through which was the dj booth( speakers mounted on wall).

in the dancers photo.........the lad in the brown top on the right may be dave cooper???????? we were going to the cats from gloucester at that time, not sure tho bloody long time ago.. ??????? ezzie

Yes, it's a stunning photo alright, and possibly unique in it's subject matter (though I hope to be proven wrong someday) Taken at a time when the scene was still underground and it wasn't done to "act like a tourist" by hawking cameras around and such! It may have been someone's birthday or something.

As you rightly point out, it was definitely taken from the stage looking slightly right, toward the corridor leading to the exit. The guy in the yellow shirt standing near the DJ booth is surely Pep? I recognise three of the dancers and the girl in yellow trousers - even the guy in the brown sweater with his back to the camera look familiar! - all of whom were usually there at the same time I was, hence I was able to date it fairly accurately - but I don't remember any names. (if I ever knew them in the first place that is!)

I could have actually taken a photo of the very same view myself (but I didn't). Given the limitations of cheap camera flashes though, I'm amazed it came out so well.
