THIS GROUP STARTED OUT AS A TRIO IN JANUARY 1966 (MARVIN BEARD, ELBERT JONES AND JIMMY LOCKE). BY THE TIME THEY GOT THEIR SECOND CONTRACT IN APRIL, ELBERT HAD LEFT BUT THEN GAINED NEW MEMBERS ALVIN SYKES, WALTER PRIDE AND JAMES C BROWN. THEY FORMED AS A GROUP IN THE MARINE CORPS AND TOOK THEIR NAME FROM THE CORPS LATIN MOTTO, SEMPER FIDELIS (ALWAYS FAITHFUL). SAYS IN THE BOOKLET NOTES THAT LATER MARVIN HAD LEFT BY 1967 AND WAS REPLACED WITH A GENE.
