Henry Lee Williams, 21 May 1938, Tchula, Mississippi, USA. For most of his career, Williams has been a journeyman singer on the chitlin circuit, eschewing identification with the blues scene until recently. He grew up with his cousins, Little Smokey Smothers and Otis "Big Smokey" Smothers. When his mother died in the mid-50s, he was adopted by the family of singer Arlean Brown. After spending time in Detroit, he moved to Chicago in 1958 and worked in a bakery until the pressure of gigging every night led to a full-time singing career. He made his first single, "Hello Baby", for Foxy in 1961. Two years later, he signed to Federal and released three singles, including "You're Welcome To The Club', later covered by Little Milton. Other records emerged during the 60s, on labels such as Palos, Gamma, Shama and Sussex. During much of that time, he toured the south with Earl Hooker's band. In the 70s, he indulged a talent for cooking by opening Lee's Diner on Chicago's West Side. Early in the 80s, he moved to Memphis, where in 1991 he recorded I Like Your Style at Otis Clay's studio. The following year, Shot Of Rhythm And Blues was recorded for the Japanese Soul Trax label. In 1993, he sang on four tracks of Little Smokey Smothers" Bossman, which led to a contract with Black Magic and Cold Shot and more recently he has recorded for the Ecko label.

The Smokey Smothers is a different design label, which points to it not being the same label at all....

Had the Smokey Smothers on a red Gamma, not sure if it was the same script but similar design. Block letters, plain label, same numbering system. Thought it was the same label with numbering system, etc. The script commonly used on those Chicago labels is Umbra by the way. Seen Brothers of Soul on different designs/ pressing runs, as well as the Umbra script. Also have a Creations on Blue plain label, with Umbra script. Rather than the usual constellation design.

Read that Jo Armstead liked soul, wheras her husband Mel Collins? liked R'n'B/ Blues when they did the Giant/ Gamma labels. So could explain different colours/ designs to distinguish them.
