Over the last 2 months, I've been collecting UK label records like a nutter and I have some very nice items already e.g.

frankie & johnny demo

tony middleton issue

dean parrish demo

mary love demo

jimmy radcliffe demo

darrell banks demo

vontastics demo

chapter five demo

you get the drift.

But now, I'm starting to wonder why I'm collecting these records - it's because I just need to have something to collect I think - and I'm thinking maybe I'd prefer to have the money rather than the records. But then after I'd sold them, what would I spend the money on? Easy one - records

I don't think I'm the only one who enjoys chasing records more than actually having them, once you've got them, the thrill has gone.

Or am I just f*cking mental?

Pete--like many things you,ve said on here--you.re spot on .I.ve said for years that the biggest "HIGH" is seeing the records for sale, ordering them(used to be great ringing up when Anderson,Manship,Pat,Rob Messer said those fantastic words--"Yes i.ve still got that one"), And the waiting for postman Pat(i used to try and plan his route and hi-jack him 3 streets early(so i,d get the records 1hr. earlier!!)--then opening them and holding them(STEADY ON T.C) Rani would then say "Are,nt you gonna play them then"----No i,d go and write out my new white sleeves and then file them in the correct order!!

And on your next point Mr. S.you.re buying British----in the last 3 monthe i,ve bought about 10 good records on Australian labels(WHY???)

No you ain't!

I did it for years. Then stopped, then started again. Some still in the mailers? whats the point in that? So now I am outing them, so I can spoil my kids for a change!!

Anybody want to buy Bobby Kline?

Like many of us I've had some pretty good records through my hands over the years, many I regret selling more now due to the financial implications than the actual owning of the records lol, sold a couple of biggies last year to fund a business which I do not regret, buy, sell swap, trade seems to be the name of the game for many of us these day's, now I'm not DJ'ing that much hardly at all infact so the need and desire for certain records is no longer there yet despite this I still buy at least three or four tunes a month, these additions are now simply to feed the collecting bug that is in us all and is something that will never totally go away and with the huge record mountain out there you can pick up some wonderful records, Pete don't worry about it mate we are all pretty much cut from the same cloth....lol

There's an added dimension too Pete which I'm also familiar with i.e. when you've had them once before, sold em and then decide to go and buy em back again at hugely inflated prices or, at least, much more than you sold em for when you got bored last time

I've spent so long looking for some tunes that once you get your hands on 'em years later you wonder why the f**k did I want that! Tastes change I suppose....

Pete, I know exactly where your coming from with regard to the latter paragraph, and albeit my collecting habit has slowed down recently,I had been chasing a couple of big Detroit pieces for a long while, which I was chuffed to eventually obtain....alas just like xmas I look forward to it immensely....it comes.....I "enjoy the moment" but it goes flat pretty quickly, and similar to the xmas trimmings, ends up neatly tucked in a box.....roll on next xmas..... :)
