Pete S Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 I've got every Black Echoes from 1979 with every top 10 sounds from the year. There's no way I'll get time to write it but I could lend them to someone.

Guest Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 1979 was the best year of my life as far as northern soul goes. Starts from mother ironing my spencers, me spraying the polish on me polyveldt shoes while watching Mork and Mindy (nanoo nanoo),trousers 3 inch high above my ankles to show white socks, white belt, Fred Perry the anticipation of the night, queueing up, getting hand stamped, the hit of the atmosphere as you walk into the hallowed room which you think about all week, the smell of the place, watching the great dancers that would turn up out the blue now and again, the great stompers who back in the day knew how to stomp, not like today The feeling that runs through you when you hear the instrumental cut that cues you to the floorwork, doing what you practiced all week what you saw the week before someone else doing, watching calendar news and seeing a mate in Scunthorpe Pathfinders being interviewed over a scuffle with Punks in Cleathorpes, the 50 record deal from Wigan for £50 (PMSL) ,the fashion(Pegs,Bags,Zoots), the clinical dancing, the people we called plastics who would come from yag houses (youth clubs) to request shite unrare and uncool records such as Adam and Eve and the like, the posers, the girls in grey flanel pegs , and a bag of chips was 14 pence For other people the year itself has many different memories, i thank Tom Paterson and Rick Scot for introducing me into the music that changed my life, you cant possibly ask anyone for a 1000 word write up of 1979, im sure it was very different for everyone, why not ask for a few memories from different people to get a more accurate picture ?
Steve G Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 Wasn't it the year that "Casino Classics" started or was that 1978? Who cares anyway?
