Guest TONY ROUNCE Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 It's such a ghastly song that it's hard to pick a 'favourite'. So I won't!

Didn't find you a Don Covay in Austin by the way, sorry mate. Sorry, Den, it's not bad but I just can't get past the fact that it's a totally horrible song, no matter how well it's sung. If I could have, I'd have voted for Frankie Laine, who does sing it better than anyone else really. I have the same problem with versions of "Danny Boy", and have never understood why so many of our greatest soul acts have felt it necessary to give us their renditions... D'you fancy a pint down here the week after next, if you're around? TONE Edited April 12, 2009 by TONY ROUNCE

Guest Paul Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 The most soulful and intense version I ever heard was by Cissy Houston in a medley of 'He' and 'I Believe' on Commonwealth United (also issued in the UK on major Minor). Absolutely essential.

Absolutely essential. Cheers, I'll look that one up. Awesome voice that Cissy Houston. Got her other release on Major Minor, which is pretty tasty too. :o)
